Funny, a hand full of people actually know which store you're talking about.

Not too hard to find.;)

Yeah, I'm from the Detroit area too (obviously, by my user name), but I don't think the Somerset store is going to be open by early October. An employee at the temporary store on the second floor said the new store should be done by THANKSGIVING!

However, it should be a VERY nice store, in light of how it will double in size! :D

Hey, Im from the Detroit area also :), actually I stay outside of Flint! But I'm looking forward to seeing how the remodeled store will look. The last time I went to that store was for the iPhone 4 launch and that was pretty crazy, I'm sure it will be the same for the iPhone 5 launch.

The Legacy Place store in Dedham, MA is closed this week for construction. I'm thinking of camping out in a dumpster so I can be first in line for the new iPhone.

Hey at least this is a store RENEVATION update instead of a new store OPENING update that people can pretend to be excited about.

How are these "rumors" when there is tangible evidence to support that this is actually occuring?

To clear things up all these stores are outside stores. They are all getting security gates put on them so they can stop getting robbed. I believe Sagemore was hit a few times.

Remember not everything is product release related. Skeptic idiots.

I'm surprised nobody in here is raging about the crappy car in front of the Walnut Creek store.....

"Ra ra, how can I feel superior about my possessions if apple just lets ANYONE park in front of their stores? BMW's only or I'm returning my MBP!"

Pasadena, CA Apple store is also in renovation, they opened an alternative store next to it during renovation.

If these stores are getting renovated, iPhone 5 must be huge. Can't wait:D

Getting the stores open in time for the launch is one thing, but the renovations have NOTHING to do with the iPhone 5. Apple has changed store design several times (google pics of the first couple and you'd not believe it was an apple store). You don't send ALL new fixtures to a store every 6 months, it's not cost effective. You put those updates on a schedule. (This is different than every store getting 1 new fixture here and there. These stores were gutted.)

Just a hunch, but these renovations are probably in lead up to the holiday season not the iPhone 5. And I doubt they are "rushed" as the totality of the planning, approval, and implementation process takes months.

It's not that they lead up the holiday season, it's that retailers don't do these projects "during" the holiday season. You do them before or after, and in retail October 1st is really the official start of Christmas. Not for sales, but planning, preparation, training, holiday staff meetings, etc. You actually hire for Christmas in August/September.

The people who plan the store renovations do not know about product release dates. Apple keeps that all very secret.

If anything, stores under current "refreshes" (remodel a bit extreme a term) might have been give more resources to be completed a few days early due to the launch as an after thought.

Yep, I drove across town into Phoenix last week and found the Apple Store blacked out and a sign saying they were closed for the week. I have never known of Apple to close stores completely. They will often block off part or in the case of the PHX store, move two doors down so they could stay open while working on the new store, but that blew my mind. Hey, I wanted cool toys! :apple:

The report also notes that Microsoft will be opening its own retail store directly across a small parking lot from Apple's store
Funny, Microsoft already has a Microsoft Store just a few doors down from the Apple Store in Bellevue Square Mall (Seattle area).

Microsoft seems to be making a habit of opening Microsoft Stores right next to Apple Stores, at least in the Seattle area (which is right in Microsoft's back yard).

EDIT: I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, since opening next to Apple Stores is Microsoft's stated policy.

The Germantown, Tn (Memphis, Tn) was closed for a few days in late August thru early September for renovations. I have not been back there since they reopened, so I don't know what they changed.

Renovations!

:) Now I highly doubt they would go through all this for a iphone 4s lol. Also I heard from a pretty good source that it is indeed an iphone 5 and not a iphone 4s. When I say good source I mean a realllll good source.:apple:

Thats true they have been updating the Pasadena store as well.

I remember them changing the glass at the new york store too.

This is pretty brilliant, clean new stores, new iPhone, new iOS, new Mac Pros and Mac Books, as well as new iPods.

A completely new Apple for a new year and ready to pounce.

I don't wish to sound negative, but hopefully by next year they will have fixed the last few things with Lion both bug wise and usability wise by next year as well. I think that would be a great way to end the year!!!

University Village was the first Apple store I've ever been to and also the first one in the region. It is no wonder that they would remodel it.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_6 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8E200)

I live right by the U Village in Seattle. The new Microsoft store or Apple Store wannabee is so blatantly trying too hard. They put one right next to the Apple Store in the Bellesquare Mall too. Its sad. You go in and all the tables are set up the same with a similar genius bar. The employees wear colored tees and mimmick apple. Its really so blatant. A back handed compliment I guess. Living in Microsofts backyard is humorous. There was a car in front of me today with a Bing sticker on it! Lol

The marketing dopes at Microsoft are so stupid. Do they really think the strategy of putting Microsoft stores right next to Apple stores, so people can really make the direct comparison, will help sell Microsoft products? I sincerely hope, from the bottom of my heart, that the Microsoft stores go the way of Gateway Country. After all, they're basically still the same crappy products, only with a few more bells and whistles stolen from Apple over the past decade.

Fairly certain they can't stop you from taking pics while you stand on a public sidewalk/street.

I'm not complaining, I just think it's a funny story. The property (a shopping center) is private but does not belong to Apple, I am not in their store. I am actually a customer of that Apple store and walk or bicycle past the store almost every day. Shopping center security was also nearby, they just said hello to me like they do every day. The Apple people were just being stupidly uptight, no problem, I already got my pictures.

They wouldn't go through all this effort and expense just for a 4S, cast in stone now I think that a massive new redesigned and feature packed iPhone 5 is on the way

Read above, they were installing security gates only.
