Current cellular mobile and wifi radio communications burn too much power for a battery small enough to fit inside a watch (unless you want to recharge it multiple times per day). So no completely independent watch-sized devices (useful ones) for this technology generation or likely the next few.

Plus, by being a generic iPhone companion, Apple would only have to build a single model instead of multiple radio versions like they have to do now for the iPhone.

I still don't think it will have the word Watch in it's name.

I think it will be a band, not too dissimilar to the Nike Fuelband, FitBit etc

Also, IMO it's no coincidence that Nike no longer manufacture the FuelBand and let most of it's staff go (and they're probably working for Apple on the iBand).

That would really be great

The other big mistake was being exclusive to AT&T in the US for too long, which gave Android an almost free playing field for years on the other carriers.

Yes! I agree. Also in other countries :apple: had similar arrangements I believe. They could have sold so many more phone, if one could have just walked into an Apple shop to buy it unlocked. Customers are obviously willing to pay 500+ $ for a phone as we know now.

There was a choice. Buy the iPhone, or don't. :p
As Henry Ford first pioneered this business model... your tin lizzies come in any color you want, so long as it's black.

Hah! You are right! :p
I wanted a big screen, so I went with an Android phone. Like probably millions of people, too. Lost dollars for :apple: ...
This was a valid concern until the Iph6/+ addressed it. I've heard it from several folks in person, and many dozens of "old timers" (in their 40s and 50s) at a career fair when I asked them about their Galaxy Note phones, and why they didn't use Iphones despite liking iOS (when the latest was the Iph5 back then).
