A new Cinema Display would be great and while we are at it, how about a new router?
I’ve been asking for an Apple TV with built in mesh networking for years. Offer an Apple TV and then an Apple TV Pro with the AirPort/router capabilities built in.

I suspect the things that changed was market saturation in the phone market coupled with the M series chip bringing increased performance, profit and possibly market share in the computer market.
Covid was also a huge factor in their renewed Mac interest. So many people/companies are investing in better work from home setups and Apple obviously wants a share of that. I just got a 27" iMac for this purpose.

Nope. Apple can't bring anything that other companies have brought to the table. Believe me I would love it - especially the ease of set-up - but it's a miniscule business opportunity.
iPhone, Mac, Apple watch, none of them is the 1st to market. Apple has never been the 1st to market company. It's a "we will deliver a great product" company.

I want Apple router because I trust their privacy and security policy than any other router out there, plus its ease of setup.

LGs new OLED monitor is going to give them a run for their money on XDR at least.
It wouldn't surprise me if LG is supplying the displays for the cheaper Apple monitor. They no longer actively market the UltraFine 5K, so perhaps it will be the successor to that display.

As an Apple fanboy it caused me untold stress to purchase a Samsung 4K monitor for my shiny new M1 Mac Mini. I have a half-dozen Apple Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays and CRT Displays already but none of them are 4K and I want the best for my M1 dammit. So with much trepidation I broke the surly bonds of Apple and bought a Samsung 28" monitor -- and it's actually pretty sweet. Of course it DOESN'T have a camera or microphone or speakers built-in, but the 4K picture is beautiful. I'm hoping Apple hurries-up and releases their own affordable 4K consumer monitor before this Samsung becomes my "gateway drug" and I start shopping for their Android S-phones, Galaxy tablets, dishwashers, washer-dryers, and refrigerators. C'mon Apple, don't fail me now. Ship this thing.

Can't wait for this. But I hope they can get something like 5k res + 120hz refresh...I think it'll be difficult for me to go back from 144hz to 60hz...

Also...please put more than a single thunderbolt 4 input...you literally never see the back of a monitor, nobody cares if there are three cables coming out of it.

These rumors are top notch. I’m currently using a 27 inch Thunderbolt Display with mid 2014 MBP and I’d definitely upgrade

FI-NA-LLY!!! Hope this comes sooner rather than later. Still using the original LCD Apple (pre-Thunderbolt) display and it still works well. I've been looking at the XDR display but have a real challenge justifying the price.

I'm glad to see Apple choosing to re-enter this market, but I hope they make something really good.

There are a lot of very good monitors made by a variety of manufacturers for really good prices. I don't think Apple will sell something at a low price point, so they're going to have to include some premium features to justify the price. It won't be enough to put the same panels sold by Dell and LG in an aluminum enclosure if it costs a lot more than the Dell/LG displays.

I think you might be surprised how many people - myself included - are willing to pay a premium for the same panel as an the 2021 iMac in a standalone Apple display even if it offered nothing extra in terms of features over other OEM monitors using the same panel.*

* - At a minimum, it will be calibrated to match the iMac / MacBook panels so it will look better when paired with them than an OEM monitor (so many reports of the LG UltraFine 4K/5K monitors being all over the place) and it will hopefully have TB4 instead of TB3.

Should be really simple to use the 5K panels & front bezel/stand from the 27" iMac with a slimmer rear bezel. I would absolutely buy a pair to go along with my 2020 27" iMac.

Sounds like the iMac backside will be a uniform thickness (so no longer really thin edges tapering thicker towards the center where the internal components are). Benefits of a thicker edge will mean Apple has the room to install a True Depth camera module to add FaceID.

Sounds like the MacBook display housings will also be going to a uniform thickness to allow FaceID, as well.

Crazy that this hasn't existed yet. They could literally take one of their iMacs, rip out the brains, and sell it for $500.
And imagine if they did a new modern design but they’d be able to pretty much have the whole back of the device super thin. Slimmed down iMac.

I wonder if covid helped motivate this. A number of my working from home friends have commented how jealous they are that I have an old 27 inch Cinema Display that's still kicking.

I keep worrying that one is going to die any day now though, and am really surprised that basically no one wants to sell me a new one, all monitors seem to be a race to the bottom on price. I mean why can't I find:

- a monitor with nice external design, no plastic
- reasonable sound builtin
- VESA mount
- usb-c and a good number of ports
- preferably 27 inch size, larger than that is actually bigger than I want
- 4k and higher end specs generally (it doesn't have to be OLED or a reference quality pro monitor though)

I'd pay $1000 for it for sure, and it seems there's a fair market for it, but it doesn't seem to exist.

Finally. I got 3 aging thunderbolt displays that need replacing. I bought an LG 27UK850-W 27" 4K UHD IPS Monitor with HDR10 with USB Type-C Connectivity and FreeSync because I read an article that said it could be hooked up to the old trashcan MacPro. It just sat there doing nothing. It did work when I connected it to the HMDI port but the image was so flickery, it was unusable. Hopefully the new monitors will work on with my old MacPro...or I will be forced to buy one of the new MacPros.

Now it just sits on the other desk along with other old Macs I never use. It taunts me. Stupid thing. Look at it.

I bought the exact same display for my 2020 iMac 5K. It runs very well with the USB-C connection. I connected to a PS4 Pro via HDMI cable and not bad. I wonder what's the flickering. Did you update the firmware on the monitor?
