What's the problem for a company of Apple's size to have a broad collection of devices ⁉️
Ok, they tested this Air, just as they tested the mini. But rember the earlier phones - never forget the history on the journey into the future!

For the customers sake, just make a smaller production, money isn't the problem.
Bring back a newborn mini now for the customers sake - you can do it Timmy 😉

If people shift phone company, they might shift the computers too! Think of it Apple!

It is what it is.

If people are purchasing iPhone pro maxes instead of airs, it's still a happy problem for Apple, in that money still flows into their coffers rather than to a competitor's.

Enjoy your Airs, whoever you are out there. :p

Once someone puts a case on the Air, it is not so thin anymore. Sure it would still be thinner than any other iPhone with a case, but not thin enough to give up important features such as multiple cameras, stereo speakers and longer battery life. The trade-offs to not justify the design for a majority of iPhone buyers. It is a cool iPhone for sure, but it is another niche iPhone.
Hey buddy, why is it so hard for you people to understand. Important features? Ok, I don’t care for wide and 8x zoom. I wear Airpods 95% of time and when I don’t, one speaker is fine for a random video on Youtube. My battery last all day, same as my iPhone 16 pro. What else? mmWave? I dont even get it in ny city but i did get 1.1Gpbs down on 5G+ yesterday which was plenty. I used the lidaar sensor once 2 years ago. So not missing that. What else? The Air is stunning and the Pro is ugly AF. Easy to chose.

Phone is till thin AF with a case, try again.

I’m not surprised by this news. Heck, I actually do expect the iPhone Air to probably be cut off as a model next year. It’s obvious the average consumer want the big screen phone with long lasting battery.

I still love my iPhone Air though. It’s really made me detest the brick iPhones.

Price.

If it was cheaper than the 17, it would’ve done a lot better, but then it would’ve cannibalised 17 sales.

It comes across as ‘no man’s land’ product.
The iPhone Air is 100% not designed to be a sensible purchase. If you want to approach this year’s iPhone line from a financially mindset, you can only look at the base and Pro models. I think that’s what’s bugging a lot of people because they want to make sense of its existence.

I think what’s bugging most people is that they like the design of the Air but because it’s priced almost the same as the Pro model and with less features, they gravitate towards the Pro model because they are chasing after the specs. They want both the design and the specs. Unfortunately, you can only pick one this time around.

While some of us are more than satisfied with the design and the shortcomings.

Told you so in July, lol.

And because iPhone Air uses the same sensor as the iPhone 17, you'd wonder why Apple didn't give the regular 17 a 1.2x and 1.5x zoom for the main Camera, don't BS me as something "that's PRO". ProMotion is on the 17, was that PRO? (ref disassemble vid https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1DQnhz6Eit/ )

Had there been a 17 Plus, with ProMotion, and 1.2x and 1.5x zoom for the main camera and a Pro Max level battery life, would YOU buy the PRO MAX?

Apple knew the answer, so there was no 17 Plus this year with all the promising goodies.

Oh for goodness sake!!! I really wanted an iPhone 17 Plus. Instead of replacing the Plus version with the Air Apple should have kept it and trialled the Air alongside it. Apple would have sold more iPhone 17 Plus phones this year than ever, with the base model iPhone 17 being so popular.

And regarding the statement that 'Air is selling well in China,' as a Chinese, I’d like to share some thoughts.

First of all, sales have NOT yet begun in China (preorders started on 10/17; sales start on 10/22). On the Apple Store, there is a 1-2 week delivery time.

However, the regular 17 currently has a delivery time of 2-3 weeks.

What do these tell you? At least to me, the regular 17 is more popular.
This has been the trend since preorders started back in September. The regular 17 was, and still is, in high demand.

But does that mean the regular 17 sold out better than the Pros? No!
According to a well-known tech Weibo user in China, the activation numbers for iPhone models in Week 40 (10/5) are shown in this pic:

Since the iPhone Air has only two hardware variations (one with mmWave for the US market), it is rumored (chuckle), or perhaps as a joke, that the unsold units overseas simply underwent a factory firmware and packaging change before being prepared for sale in China.

I don’t mind if they don’t update the Air every year but it would be hard to go back to carrying a brick by comparison.

Hope they keep the line and give it an update at least every 18-24 months.

Add one camera and figure out increasing the battery 20% and it’ll be perfect.

But in the mean time the battery life is good enough and I’m a pretty heavy user.

Can go all day from waking up to going to sleep without running out and without topping off. Gets down to 15% by then. But a bit more buffer would be nice.
It's gone once the foldables are out.

It's using foldable engineering leftovers to create a filler that replaces what would have been an all-rounder 17 Plus, which could harm Pro Max sales.

If you guys still don't get what Apple's thinking, you're fine spending $1998 USD on a foldable in 2026.

I love my Air so much. I got used to the thinness that now holding any other phones feels like a brick to me, just feel silly.

Air is a futuristic phone while most people just want to stay at present and not willing to try.

True that it only has one camera. But who ever that wanted good mobile photography will not be looking at iPhone in the first place. That’s why I have a Vivo X200U to go with my Air.

I love my air, so does my wife and a couple of friends. Perfect device, not a brick. We are all coming from 16 pro max‘s

The Pro’s are ugly AF. We need a phone that looks good to choose from.
It is interesting and disappointing that Apple failed to do their best work on Pro and Pro Max models.

Cheap aluminum after boasting about the superior properties of Titanium in the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Ugly appearance adding to the cons list, safety cone orange color seemingly to grab attention and being heavier as well as thicker is a step back.

Makes one wonder just what the companies motives are. While these weaknesses didn't dramatically slow sales, Apple missed a wonderful opportunity to do better.

Cool. Now, Apple, cancel this thing and give me the 17 mini. My 12 mini is in need of refreshment.
Respectfully - and I say this as a proud 12 mini owner - that's as likely as Apple developing another good mouse. They have moved on.

Apple hasn't even promoted the Air. They've promoted the crap out of the Pro and Pro Max, though.
They know spending money on ads would be a waste. I haven’t seen any ads for the Air so I’m wondering if they already had a bad feeling about the Air before release. You would’ve expected some TV ads at least for the Air at release.

What are tv ads. lol. It’s been years since I’ve seen one.
