I would like to see how Americans would react if someone made a comedy with people having to kill the active president, or maybe some veterans, war heroes, or victims of terror acts. It's OK for some Americans (probably the least educated bunch) to rejoice on violent scenes against other countries and cultures. They are horrified if anyone touches their heroes.

No different if the KKK wanted to rally in my home town. As bad as it sounds this is what makes our country great. I doubt that a north Korean can openly criticize or make fun of their leader without penalty.
And as an American I would not have a problem if someone wanted to make a comedy about our president. No one is sticking a gun to my head to watch it.
The world is pretty messed up right now and this issue is nothing. Go to the right website and you can can watch a beheading every other day or senseless killing of countless people that had surrendered. There are kids within ISIS that have no choice but to grow up hateful and watch how beheadings are done. People have no clue what's really going on in the world today. People want to censor the news and live under a rock and pretend that the world is perfect. But that's your choice if you live in America.

I watched it on Google Play last night. One of the dumbest movies I've ever seen.

What were you expecting? Grammy award material? If so you were easily fooled. I actually like this type of comedy but then again I'm not sensitive. It's a fictional comedy made to go over the top.
Just don't invite your gay or North Korean friends over to watch it. But $6 to rent is a major win even if you did not like it. I'm watching it again right now.

Nothing quite says christmas quite like a satirical film, where the premise is to murder a person. I am so glad Sony made this film available. Especially on Christmas day.
I'm going to see Into the Woods. It only has the murder of a wolf, a giant, his wife, a young mother, and an old mother. And three women get their eyes pecked out, and a man gets his pierced by thorns. But it's a musical.

Your essentially comparing countries a part of NATO, essentially most of the Western world's DEMOCRACIES, including the United States, with that of an unelected and illegitimate muderous dictatorship. And I'm assuming your doing this from the comfort of your living room, drinking your cup of coffee or some sort of other beverage while millions of people starve and can't gain access to a grain of rice in the reclusive isolated country where people are killed for watching South Korean soap operas. Let's not compare countries where Individuald are free and have basic human rights with the countries that don't. Let's not legitimize a country that has no right to be considered legitimate.

If the US government has no right to criticize, then essentially no country has the right to criticize. Perhaps you should go on a little trip to North Korea for a few weeks and see what it's like to live there. Maybe then you won't be so hostile to a comedy film made to poke the eye of some of the worst people on the planet. This will also not start World War III either. You think the North Korean regime would dare threat to launch a large and widespread attack against the US or its allies? I think not.

Not coffee, I'm enjoying excellent red wine. Apart from that, of course I support democracies, but let's make a few points clear:

1. this film is certainly not a solution to lack of democracy in the world.

2. nobody has presented proofs that North Korea is responsible for the Sony security failures.

3. maybe you should take a trip to some countries that were doing OK and were millions of people are dead or fleeing, or children are being killed or beheaded. This is happening because we decided to bring "freedom" to them. So maybe we would do better minding our own business because wherever we go we seem to make things much worse.

Apple is in bed with the Chinese, they are no longer a US or western company.

What about other companies who do business in China? So I guess you should blame Nixon/Kissinger for opening the door to trade with China.

This is so absolutely stupid. Who knows what deal if any was in the works between Sony and Apple about the distribution of this movie.

Considering the fact that Apple corporate, which includes the team props content, is shut down for the rest of the year from this past Monday, we should be giving Apple kudos for not dragging its people back in just to prop this movie to iTunes.

And to the people who say "well, there's new content coming online in the store" you obviously don't understand the work involved and the fact that content is propped a week if not more ahead of the actual release date.

Let the Apple employees have the time off with their families that the company has given them.

Merry Christmas!!

Red wine? Illustrates my point even more clearly then. You realize in North Korea you would not be allowed to enjoy such luxury?

Doing "OK"? Afghanistan and Iraq were doing ok? I was not a fan of the Iraq war, but lets not pretend and make things out to be how they were not.

In the end, it seems that you have a problem with an American production company making a movie about the worst of mankind. You are clearly allowed to hold such an opinion. And I am allowed to mock it, because its wrong. The attempt to justify such a position with nonsense about American Imperialism just makes your position seem even more "radical" in my eyes.

or you can stay on american soil and watch cops execute people.

I am constantly amazed at how nasty Applefan posters here are towards just about any other company. What does this kind of religious arrogance say about the poor saps who somehow equate at least part of their own self worth with their adoration of anything Apple?

Humans, you are very strange.

Uh I simply don't know how to answer such a genius question after you just downgraded your credibility calling people "poor saps".

And it's a film version of a Broadway play... and a made-for-TV televised version of that play.

Damn Hollywood... get an original idea for once!

:D

(JK... I'm excited to see Into the Woods! Love Anna Kendrick :))

Theatres decide what movies to show, not studios. All major theatres did not want to show The Interview in light of the threats. Sony really had no choice but to cancel the release initially.

Right, but you're missing the point. First of all, if you truly think this whole thing is real then I have a unicorn to sell you below market price. It's no secret that Sony is having major financial issues and this was nothing but hype created by them to bring them attention again. If you truly think north Koreans care about some comedy movie enough to make terrorist threats then you wrote the book on gullible.
If any of it was true (and I'm only humoring you for argument's sake) then it just shows Sony had no ballz to fight to get this movie in major theaters despite any "threats".

How interesting on Christmas Day that the Playstation network happens to be down. Can't play any games online.....however Sony claims they are doing "maintenance". Really Sony, maintenance of your online services on Christmas day when many people got games and the PS4 for Christmas? Let me guess, they will say they got hacked....again.:p

Excellent Californian red wine. One of the best rated wines actually. I don't have a problem with an American company making fun of dictators, I have a problem with people turning a bad movie and security flaw to a fight for freedom and democracy. And as for the middle east, they were or were not doing OK before, but after our intervention we created hell on earth.

We just finished watching this. It laughable NK had an issue with this and even more laughable Apple declined to show this. Jobs would've at least had the nuts. Shame on America for backing out of showing a completely dumb movie.

I'd like to see if these tough guy and freedom fighters would have dared to do something similar with an Islamic figure. Probably not. That's when they all become good boys and prefer not to interfere with foreign affairs What a bunch of losers.

Why would the movie studios want/encourage that sort of thing though. Right now, their is revenue from films being in theaters at 10-15 per person, as well as revenue when it comes out for digital streaming/DVD. The straight to streaming effectively allows two people to pay 5-10 dollars total to watch a film versus 20-30. It's a loss.. I just dont see the motivation for change.. But maybe I'm missing something

Less distribution costs, Theater's cut and its a good secondary option to nab a few more bucks from people who cannot afford/don't have the time, to go to the theater.

Both the Playstation Network and Xbox Live has been hacked as well today. All services are off line, and thus can't download The Interview.

Maybe Apple SHOULD have made it available...

It can't be downloaded anyway. It's stream only services even if you buy it from Google Play it doesn't give you a downloadable copy on your computer, though you can watch offline on your tablet or phone but cant AirPlay or cast from the device itself. Kind of lame.

Just watched it on my Chromecast. Fortunately, Google leadership did not display the same cowardice that characterized Apple's actions, and made it easily available for everyone to view. I did my best to reward Google's courage by buying it 3 times, one for myself and 2 as gifts to others. Merry Christmas!

The movie was fine. Hilarious at times (for those of us who aren't uptight), just goofy at others. At no point was it anything more than an unrealistic goofy comedy. LOL at the North Koreans for flipping out about this. And LOL at all of the cowardly Americans (including, but not limited to Apple leadership) for making this movie an example of how to surrender to terrorism.
