Cowards, won't take a stand for free speech. As the most influential tech company, Apple could have shown that it is standing up for one of the most fundamental values of the United States. I applaud Google for doing so.

Ditto. I'd rather be given a choice to watch or not watch rather than not given a choice at all. Movie pokes fun at both US and North Korea so I don't see how any one side can be offended.

Cowards? And Google + Sony are heroes? Funny non of these people would try the same type of movie with Islamic figures, or even the current Turkish dictator.

I am constantly amazed at how nasty Applefan posters here are towards just about any other company. What does this kind of religious arrogance say about the poor saps who somehow equate at least part of their own self worth with their adoration of anything Apple?

Humans, you are very strange.

Hence why you will NEVER see world peace, with the ideology displayed in this forum, the idea of not taking the mickey out of a disjointed country in an effort to establish peace goes way over the heads of many posters here it seems.
Freedom of speech is important, but so is respecting others and their beliefs. Alas I think some on here would happily annihilate North Korea of the face of the Earth and not bat an eyelid.

Merry Christmas.

Apple's loss - I watched it on YouTube and Google had my money. Quite unimpressed with Apple over the last few weeks with this and their subpar response following Panorama's investigation into their supply chain. The funny thing is, they could have come out looking really good on both issues - strange decision making!

Which ideology is that, exactly? A regime that treats up to 120,000 people like this.

It describes a brutal and inhuman regime in the camps, with systematic torture, executions, rape and "the denial of reproductive rights enforced through punishment, forced abortion and infanticide". In such ways, it concludes, hundreds of thousands of people are believed to have died in the camps over the decades.

Just watched it on my Chromecast. Fortunately, Google leadership did not display the same cowardice that characterized Apple's actions, and made it easily available for everyone to view. I did my best to reward Google's courage by buying it 3 times, one for myself and 2 as gifts to others. Merry Christmas!

The movie was fine. Hilarious at times (for those of us who aren't uptight), just goofy at others. At no point was it anything more than an unrealistic goofy comedy. LOL at the North Koreans for flipping out about this. And LOL at all of the cowardly Americans (including, but not limited to Apple leadership) for making this movie an example of how to surrender to terrorism.

Not a single person's choices were taken away just because Apple chose not to host The Interview. :roll eyes:. As I said, much of the Macrumors members here use this place for nothing more than an punching Apple punching bag.

Interesting. I just downloaded it via bit torrent. Free of charge, as I'm sure most people did. But interesting how you're making much of this about Apple when the major motion picture theaters didn't want the movie shown in the first place.
As I said Macrumors, AKA "The Apple punching bag". People here use any little excuse to throw punches while sitting on their high horse.

I rented this film over ten times on YouTube across all of my credit cards and I burned every single piece of Apple memorabilia in my home and I know Apple is so mad that I did that but I don't care cause I know that it has secured the freedom of speech for all people in this country for the rest of our lives. :)

The excruciating erection I get when I think of how brave Google has been for us is accompanied by an absolute sense of ecstasy unlike any other in this life. They have not only saved me and my rights as a human being but the lives of every living soul on this planet.

"Ok Google", tell me how to give you worship and praise according to thy will. Please, protect us as we fight against the forces of Apple who is the new face of evil in this world. They will stop at nothing to ensure the suppression of human rights and the enslavement of our race. This Christmas Day, our new savior has been born; an immaculate conception of an idea between Seth Rogen and his handmaid James Franco. For you are the Holy search engine who has struck down tyranny in this life. You alone have SAVED our human dignity. You have set us free from the shackles of oppression.

Praise be to Google.

Getting tired of the Seth Rogen/franco/jonah hill et. Etc line of movies.....time for some new actors. And maybe we shouldnt be putting out such obnoxious movies so the rest of the world hates us

The point is, Apple decided against releasing this film on ITunes. I would like to know why that is. I could really care less that other companies decided to stream it. The question is though why did Apple decline? If it has anything to do with China, well then, it is a sad day indeed.

Right, but you're missing the point. First of all, if you truly think this whole thing is real then I have a unicorn to sell you below market price. It's no secret that Sony is having major financial issues and this was nothing but hype created by them to bring them attention again. If you truly think north Koreans care about some comedy movie enough to make terrorist threats then you wrote the book on gullible.
If any of it was true (and I'm only humoring you for argument's sake) then it just shows Sony had no ballz to fight to get this movie in major theaters despite any "threats".

How interesting on Christmas Day that the Playstation network happens to be down. Can't play any games online.....however Sony claims they are doing "maintenance". Really Sony, maintenance of your online services on Christmas day when many people got games and the PS4 for Christmas? Let me guess, they will say they got hacked....again.:p

This is a weak conspiracy theory. None of the events leading up to the hack remotely support your assertions. While skepticism about the actual culprits of the hack may have some remote plausibility, the rest just seems like you're trying to run to Apple's defense.

I laugh at people who think the whole hacking incident was a ploy to promote the movie.

  1. Other movies were released online before they were released. Annie being the biggest named movie
  2. Social Security numbers of employees were released online.
  3. And of course everyone knows that making the CEO of a large corporation look like a petty racist is good for business.

Sorry guys, but your conspiracy theories only hold up if you don't think about them, nor do any research either.

Furthermore, I doubt Apple was scared to stream The Interview as they will no doubt offer it for sale in the future. More likely Sony offered Apple the opportunity to stream the movie under the agreement that they would get a large amount of the revenue that the movie would generate. I however, envision Apple telling Sony to screw off because they are the ones who demand large sums of revenue no one else...

And you have proof otherwise right??? Yeah, I thought so. :roll eyes:

Me "Running to Apple's Defense" is certainly not worse than the people here throwing punches at Apple while sitting on their high horses. :roll eyes: The bigger picture is the movie theaters blocking the movie from being shown......but of course that's too much fact for you to handle since it's much bigger than just Apple rejecting the movie. Herp.

Talk about a conspiracy theory that's a big fail.

This isn't a prepared app that is being uploaded by a developer. It's a feature length film. There are a lot of things that have to be prepared in order to prep a film for distribution on iTunes, I am sure. They have to encode the film for their system, prep FairPlay, consider multiple resolutions, etc.

I know...you're talking about a full hour of automated work there! No way Apple can pull that off!

You're the one postulating the absurd. Hence, you should post the evidence backing up your claim.

There are certainly some running to pile it on apple. Apple has the right to host or not host any movie they wish. You seem to be on a crusade to defend their honor and getting emotional about it. Is there something personal in the matter that is troubling to you?

Fail? You don't think Sony is asking for more money to stream this movie? Why wouldn't they ask for more money?

They have to recoup their losses somehow, and if you haven't noticed they are not charging the consumer more to purchase/rent the movie. That's why I have no doubt that Apple went back viewed how much revenue other Seth Rogan movies generated for them, and compared that to the revenue that the Interview was expected to generate at which point Apple decided to pass.

Do I have proof? No, but if I worked for Sony I would have demanded a higher percentage of the revenues, and if I worked for Apple I would have compared past Seth Rogan movies and compare it to the forecasted revenue of The Interview. My assumption is that Apple decided they would earn more revenue if they waited rather than pay a larger percentage to Sony for an early release. I wouldn't even call my comment a conspiracy theory as it is mostly basic business sense.

Nevertheless, the big winner in all this is YouTube Movies because I had no idea they even sold or rented movies before this incident.

Apple deserves to be a punching bag in this case. Sorry if you feel that we need to check our objectivity at the door in order to make you happy.

Deserves to be a punching bag for unknown and speculative circumstances surrounding a film and its studio's hacking that we still don't have very many concrete details about? Not to say there wasn't a hacking (there clearly was). But there are so many unknowns in virtually all aspects of this case.

What happens if Apple releases The Interview at a later time? Will that have been probably part of their plan this whole time or are they simply succumbing to pressure? We won't have any evidence but I'm sure news sources can speculate thanks to individuals "briefed on the matter".

The film being released on Christmas is totally irrelevant unless there's some Oscars bull that goes along with that. It will on iTunes someday. I suspect not too long from now. The film WILL be seen and the freedom of speech will be upheld. Sony Pictures just won't make as much money :,(

I just love how YOU and few others make this so personal. Typical when you have no real argument. I never make things personal against people directly. Apple has every right to do with they want. If you don't like it that's your problem but the point is the major motion picture movie theaters rejected the movie and that's much bigger problem than Apple doing so. Looks to be that Sony didn't fight very hard to get the movie theaters to change their mind. That's a cop out and cowardly. And if you feel the need to go on and ignore that in order stick it to Apple then you're just part of the bunch that stomps their feet and has a personal axe to grind. High horse at the finest.

"At a later time", the importance of taking a stand regarding our freedoms decreases considerably. That's the easy way out. Cowardly, if you will.

The time to be courageous is now.

Why would I be expressing my complaints about cowardly movie theater executives on this board? Read it again: "And LOL at all of the cowardly Americans (including, but not limited to Apple leadership) for making this movie an example of how to surrender to terrorism."

Yep and you felt the need to challenge it so if you don't agree then show proof otherwise or move on.

Excellent. Thank you for proving my point. Keep it as convenient as possible so you can easily attack Apple when the movie theaters are a major part of this entire subject and the reason for this entire debacle in terms of where Sony is able to show the movie. Oh, but that's probably too much fact for you to handle as well.

No, the time for Sony to cash in on what's left of this film is right now. I highly doubt it would have been financially advantageous for Apple to make an exception to release this film when all other submissions to the store are closed. And it doesn't matter. Why?

Because if this is truly a landmark moment for the freedom of speech (lol), then it will be beloved and viewed as such for years to come. Doesn't truly matter when I get it in all honesty, but it will probably be available next month on iTunes. For Sony, it's their last stand to make some dent into paying off this film which is what this is ALL about. They (along with the hackers) are responsible for this mess. No one else. It's their product and they failed to deliver one that could get to consumers. Whoops. Who's fault is that? Ultimately, it's Sony's.
