I wonder I) if this will have HDMI ports to connect Xbox / Playstation II) what the input lag might be like - would love to be able to use it for multiple purposes (photo editing D850 files, console games etc.).

Also, do you guys think that pixelwise 6K would be too small to work at 100% (i.e. at 1:1)?

I wonder if 2019 is the year we see a significant redesign for the iMac (maybe Pro only?) and MacBook Pro. increase the screen to bezel ratio, bring in Face ID...

What exactly is a "Mini LED-Like Backlight Design"? It's either LED or a backlit panel... what is "LED-like"?

I assume it’s meant to mean “the pixels are their own ‘backlight’”

Obviously very sloppy writing.

Possibly mis-translated for microLED: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroLED

OLED is nothing like MicroLED. Two completely different technologies.

OLED is not suited for desktop monitors at all. The dock would be burned into the display in no time.

I'm thinking it may mean they are using something like Samsung's QLED technology.

Why settle for local dimming LCD when micro LED is coming out?

1. Mini LED Tl;DR: Instead of having Micro LED as individual backlight for pixel, Mini LED are much larger version of MicroLED responsible for a group of pixels, which is still better than the current LED backlight technology. Basically they are fitting more than traditional LED backlight to allow fine grained control.

2. MicroLED not coming any time soon. At least not in the next 3 years.

3. Apple decided not to go QLED ( Quantum Dots ) long time ago due to the uses of Environmentally damaging Chemicals. That problem was claimed to be solved two to three years ago. But I have yet to seen any plans to commercialise it. ( Which likely means the solution has its own set of trade off that is not likely to compete well on the market )

4. I wouldn't write off OLED just yet. LG have a few more tricks up its sleeve, how good it is remains to be seen. May be by ~2022 they could have a OLED that is fit for Computer display, we should know when their show their 2020 OLED TV lineup. One thing for sure though, LG WOLED will be cheaper than Mini LED LCD Display by ~2020.

Back to the topic. I have been wondering if Apple might discontinue their 21" iMac. It is simply too expensive to make. ( Find me a 4K Monitor at 21" Size ) I think after the Pro Display, we should see iMac Lineup refresh in 2020 as well.

I don't know why nobody else is mentioning the 16 inch MacBook Pro and 10 inch iPad on that graphic. I don't believe those rumors but they would be nice if they came true.

Kind of fits for the Lunar New Year.

Wondering what AP means in regard to iPad Mini. Not Apple Pencil?
It reminds me of the mid-2000s and people making silly signature bars. Subtle throwback to that and the tackiness of graphics then.

Why settle for local dimming LCD when micro LED is coming out?
And further delay a monitor that should have been out long before now? To spend months testing it and getting it cleared with various governing bodies? To introduce a brand new technology into a new product without and knowledge of its long term reliability?

they need other markets that aren't saturated.
I know of no punching bags with Tim Cook's mug silkscreened onto it.

This is definitely welcome news, introducing new hardware that blows away current gen displays is what Apple should be doing.

Now can I have a Qi charger inbedded in Apple TV so that it can charge my Apple TV remote, or whatever other device I place on top of my Apple TV!

I've always thought they should do a 32" iMac. Hopefully they will follow with the iMac later just like they did with the cinema display. My 27's are great, but I have 32" windows machines and I love it.

Man, I hope this is true. I am waiting to get new displays for a long time. I 'm still rocking my two ACD's 30"/23". They still solid but I want to update to a 5K or even better 6K. The prices might be out of this world though. Gotta brace myself since I want to get two of these bad boys.

Some meat amongst the other fluffy news from Kuo..

This sounds very interesting using micro LED tech, 6K?? Well if they want to improve in 5K I guess they don’t have a choice. Sounds like it’ll be a hell of a display and a hell of a price..

Who's still rocking an old ACD? I imagine a 6K monitor like this might last you almost 10 years? If yes, that should help a bit with the sticker shock of spending close to 3K on one...at least that's my guess as to how much it might cost.

Why 6K though?

What's the ppi of a 6K3K at 31.6"?
(what's even the exact pixel dimensions on a so-called 6K3K display?)

And given the 27" 5K3K size scales exactly double Apple's older 27" 1440p displays; how does this 6K scale with Apple's current 'doubling' scaling concept?

I just can't see the 'amazingly better'-ness of a 31.6" 6K3K, over the current 27" 5K3K's?
AFAICT, it means ~20% extra screen pixel real estate, over 27" 5K3K, so effectively a non-ultra "widescreen 5K" resolution.

I has around 210/220ppi... so the SAME as any other Mac retina display out there. So... probably yes.
How macOS works, however... is display the interface @2x aka 200%, while images opened in Photoshop etc... are still shown at 100%. The best of both worlds really.

What's the pixel dimensions you're using to get that ppi? 6144 x 3160 (or what)?
At that, it'd be 218ppi, which matches the 5K3K displays.

YES! I’ve been talking about 31.5” 6K displays in the forums for years. I originally hoped it would show up in the iMac Pro, with my pre-announcement mock-up here:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/imac-pro-mockup.2043525/

Although I ended up using the wrong number from my calculations using 32.5”. And then with regard to the new external display for the Mac Pro here, where I used my updated 31.5” figure (which I was only rounding to the nearest half inch like the 21.5” iMac. I think it may well be 31.6” or 31.7” but be rounded up to 32” for marketing like TVs do. Anyway, I first talked about that here:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apples-revamped-mac-pro-to-launch-in-2019.2113685/page-21

Hopefully this still display still makes it into the iMac Pro in the next year or so. If it’s 6K and acts like mLED in some way then that will be ridiculously expensive. We’ll be very lucky if it’s under $2000. If I go the Mac Pro route this year, I can at least use my pretty decent 27” 4K display that I bought last year for a year or two until I can justify it or find a discount/refurb.
