That makes a lot of sense considering ARM processors are also vulnerable.

iPhone/iPad runs on ARM, AppleTV too. The only exceptions are desktops and laptops. Apple would only move when they knew lost of things won't break.

I find this post intriguing; why would anyone want Apple to provide "basic" machines?

Some people prefer Apple Laptops for longevity, the ecosystem, OS X but only use them for web browsing, word processing and ‘basic’ functions.

You and me both!!!!!! This might be the update we are looking for!

Haha yep. The 12” MacBook is far to pricey for what it is and I don’t need something crazy powerful. My MBP is a bit of a heavyweight.

I think if there is going to be a 13” MacBook to replace the Air it will need to be just as poweful as the Air, I’d love to see a bigger version of the MacBook tho.

You can. But if you never actually need to do things that require a powerful computer why spend the extra money they cost?
Because Apple is a premium company they charge the same to deliver a weaker computer that you could get elsewhere, but justify it with the cult like "apple eco-system"

Or maybe they actually make better computers it’s not always about specs, ever since I jumped over to using Mac’s it’s been a lot better than it ever was with Windows.

If someone in my family wanted a Mac computer when all they do is check emails, Facebook, browse YouTube and do internet banking I would tell them to go for the MacBook Air or something refurbished. There is not point them paying the extra money for a MacBook Pro. In comparison to the 12” MacBook however the pro is a far better choice.

I don't think you're going to find it in a thread titled "Apple to Release New Entry-Level 13-inch MacBook This Year, Likely Replacing MacBook Air". :p

I'm sure any rumours about those two will be published as soon as we hear about it.

I may be a troll.

Let's all take a moment to remember Steve Jobs proudly introducing the MacBook Air at Macworld San Francisco 2008

The pride and drive of the man when Apple was a company of innovation. Sadly Apple has lost it's touch with both reality and the consumer.

I miss the actual unveils by people. Steve or anyone talking about the product and announcing it was more genuine and real. I hate the new trend of ‘we prepared a video’ and just playing a mock up video or something with Jony talking. They can keep the videos but do them at the end.

This is what I've been waiting for.

I need them to keep that tapered design, magsafe, sd card slot.

Can experts enlighten us as to why in 2018 we're not talking about OLED laptops (Macbooks) yet?

With Apple it's all about cost vs profit. Until the cost comes down and they can make a suitable profit on the tech they won't use it.

It’s necessary for people who aren’t you, with a different use case? I’m a person who is stoked at this idea. I run a publishing company, and I have an iMac at home, but this is perfect for out and about. My hands are too large for the 12 inch. I need at least 13 for my palms to have a comfortable rest. I don’t need amazing power for my coffee shop machine. Basic word processing, Spotify, and some photoshop. Retina screen is a must. This machine would be perfect. Espically if it’s $999. As for the 13 in MBP, I can’t spend $1500 for what I want (256 gig) when with this model I could get what I want for probably $1200.

So what you actually want is a cheaper MBP ?

One more thing...

I would love to see the 13 inch screen go to 14 inches or so.

Apple could probably increase the screen size to 14 inches or so and keep the same footprint if they got rid of all the bezels. It's really time to shrink the bezels on the laptops. They can start with the ones on either side of the screen. They could reclaim about half an inch from either side if they did that.
