I think Jaybird is a slicker, better product IMHO with their equalizer app that lets you customize the sound. I have the Freedom F5s. Lousy battery life but don't care about that as much as their smaller size. But the X3s are about the same size as the Beats X and have an 8 hour battery.

Less expensive, 4 hours less battery life, but more "invisible." Otherwise, yeah, same W1 chip and similar sound.

Same size? Seems like the X3's have the battery in the earpieces while the BeatsX have them in two separate parts on the cable. They're really big.

So what I like about BeatsX is the super small earpieces combined with same 8 hour battery life and the W1 chip.

What I'm concerned about though is the cable. X3's have the retractable design which stays in place while the BeatsX are always loosely hanging in your neck, not sure if comfortable.

Well, guess I'm waiting on reviews then, going to be another three months or more. Or maybe get cheap X2's for the meantime, just so I can run with my Apple Watch should I decide to order one.

Decisions, decisions.

Maybe stop selling Beats trash indefinitely? I'd rather use a dongle than spend $150 on ANY Beats related product.

i would let the developers take their vacations:
i am delaying my ear buds till the new blueTooth5 spec.

That Fall -> Febuary change must have come after a furious Tim Cook whipped the team following missing out being an iPhone 7 key feature and then holiday sales on top of that. I'm surprised over Apple's confidence in this product in the keynote, must have been a showstopper found super late in development.

Apple is stupid to announce anything before they could release it. Still...I think people will still buy them.

I missed them as my Birthday present to myself and now my Christmas present.
I'm such a brat!

Based on the publicity shots of the Beats X they look to be about the same size as the Jaybird X3 to me. I've tried on the X3s. They are not small but not huge either. The Beats X does not look "super small" to me. The Jaybird Freedom F5 -- those are super small for BT. In fact, they are the most compact BT buds out now. X3s match the Beats X battery.

The main difference between the Beats X and X3 is that the Beats X has the super quick charge offered by the W1 and X3 has the equalizer app which lets you customize the sound. Jaybirds also come with the Comply tips.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "retractable design." There isn't anything "retractable" about the X3. The cable is same as the Beats X. The X3s can be worn over or under ear, with or with out the inner ear stop. My Freedoms word the same. There are also clips to take up slack around the neck so there is nothing flopping around when you are running. It's nice and tight and "invisible."

I guess you must see them side by side in real life to compare them, but judging from the pictures the BeatsX look like normal buds and judging from X2's which I saw in real life they look much more clunky. The Freedoms are small indeed, mostly really slim, but I don't know if the difference is that noticeable with normal earbuds (wired) in the ear. Weight does also matter and I believe the X3's lose on that part if the battery is in there.

I meant the cable clips which allows you to shorten the cable for the snug fit around the head. I'd probably prefer that over the loose BeatsX.

The app is a good point, but the BeatsX might already sound good to my taste. Fast charging is a nice bonus, comply tips (foam?) seem comfy as well.

Another point is availability in The Netherlands, because the X3's are literally nowhere to be found while the X2's are still somewhat available, but for the ridiculous price of 149 euros.

Will they connect to Android? It would be nice if I can steal these from the wife once in a while :)
Yes. They'll be able to connect to any Bluetooth device.

How embarrassing...

I have no interest in the AirPods. Simply put I'd lose one or both in about a week. If I was going to spend $100+ for bluetooth earphones it probably would have been these though.
The embarrassing part is how you have no responsibility in not losing things.

C'mon Apple, I used to be able to rely on your predictions of when you were going to release your products... First AirPods and now this? Hopefully you don't delay the shipments of the next iPads and iPhones, then you'll have a REAL epidemic on your hands.

We'll see if they show up on time.

So glad Apple removed the 3.5mm jack, that was quite thoughtful.

But at least the market is full of Bluetooth headphones, there have been plenty choices for years.

Trying to understand how something rather common to make is causing an issue.. Can someone tell me what these headphones have that current beats and others don't? Seems like generic bluetooth/workout headphones.....

This is what I am having a hard time understanding myself. My guess is it has to do with updating them to BT5. If they release Beatsx in that time frame BT5 will be on the market at around the same time. Airpods are already out and much of Beatsx interest is beginning to wane.

If there is a patch like the $1.99 BT patch Apple offered around ten years ago never mind. Are the latest BT standards in Apple's latest offerings field updatable? Thus far there has been no discussion of exactly what BT chip any of Apple's offering use or any opinions if they can be updated.

I do remember quite clearly they couldn't give the last one away but it was easily patched.

I'm pretty sure that patch was an upgrade to a quicker Wi-Fi (n) standard and in no way Bluetooth related.

You would think that Apple would be well advised as to when the new Bluetooth 5 release was to be, and release these products accordingly.

Meh (Regarding wireless headphones, i'll stick with my Grados).

Any, you know, Mac news?

Hmmm maybe delayed so they can sell more Airpods

I'll bet that's exactly why. These have a cable connecting the ear buds so sync shouldn't be an issue, assuming there is physical wire in that band.

Apple has updated its website to indicate its all-new BeatsX wireless earphones will be available in February in the United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, and several other countries, after originally saying they would launch in the Fall. Online pre-orders can still not be placed at this time.

beatsx-coming-february.jpg

BeatsX earphones feature Bluetooth and the same Apple W1 chip used by AirPods, which launched today, enabling users to pair them by simply powering them on and holding them near an iPhone. Unlike the truly wireless AirPods, the BeatsX have a Flex-Form cable that keeps the earpieces tethered to each other.

BeatsX deliver up to 8 hours of battery life on a single charge. With Fast Fuel, a 5-minute charge gives users 2 hours of playback. An in-line Remote and Mic allows for users to take calls, control music playback, and activate Siri. BeatsX cost $149.95 and come in black or white with a pocket-sized carrying case.

The confirmation comes just a few days after Apple reseller B&H Photo Video said BeatsX earphones would be delayed for at least 2-3 months, which indeed suggested availability in February or March.

Apple has already released updated Beats Solo3 Wireless and Beats Powerbeats3 Wireless headphones with the Apple W1 chip.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were doing this to include Bluetooth 5 integration, but I'm just speculating.

How well does that equalizer app work? I've heard mixed reviews.

What an unfortunate name for a pair of earphones! What were they thinking??

Feb : BeatsX will be avaliable in June.
Jun: BeatsX will be avaliable with the new iPhone.
Sept: New iPhone comes out with a headphone jack.

Feb:BeatsX will be in February. Not June. Try again.

Jun: Apple isn't pairing the BeatsX with iPhone. When does Apple pair anything with the iPhone. Try again.

Sept: New iPhone comes without headphone jack. Ding ding ding! We have a winner. As if it this wasn't blatantly already obvious from Apple.

Stop predicting the future Zhang. It's not working out to well for you.
