Yes, or a bit of fine sandpaper I thought. Just where the contacts are then you've still got a bitter coating to protect the kids
Yeah. I may have to buy some of these to see what’s going on. I licked all of the CR1220s in the lab, but they just tasted like battery. :)

(to paraphrase George Carlin) Whatever happened to natural selection, survival of the fittest. The kid who swallows batteries doesn't grow up to have kids of their own.

Now we have this nanny Government insanity that says kids are smart enough to figure out how to gain access to batteries in devices. Yet at the same time also stupid enough to EAT THEM!!!
I think you will have a real hard time finding positive evidence that would link small children’s interest in putting things in their mouth with how well they perform as adults. All small children puts things in their mouth, all the time, if they don’t that is probably a big warning about their cognitive development. It is one of their primary tools for getting to know the world. Also curiosity and intelligence is usually connected.

Every device in the world that uses CR2032 makes contact with the battery on the bottom and the outside edge. Since the bitter taste is only applied to the top of the battery, there's no reason for Apple to make the BS claim of the battery not working.

The only reason to attack this product is to cover your ass for not including it in the first place.

Does Australia also ban the use of car’s key fobs? Or wrist watches? Or other remotes? Huh.
Poor Aussie's. Ever since they gave away their guns they've had to deal with stuff like this. 😂

Exactly. I’ll never forget the day my kid tried to eat my replaceable MacBook battery in 2006. 🧐
A little A-1 goes a long way... 😉

What if they swallow the whole AirTag?
You won't lose them! At least for a few hours. Then you'll wonder how they got in to the pipes.

So how many adults now will be putting batteries in their mouths to taste them before using them? I have $5 riding on the number of people that ingest batteries per year just went up.

kids are very dumb
Pretty dumb comment as kids learn from others around them dumb is as it’s taught Or shown.

this statement by Apple is dumb.
1) simply reach out to all battery partners, ask the needed questions which include variance tolerances for bitter coating alignment.
2) test, test and test again and again! Same and test vigorously!

then you have your recommended results. This is what support staff and hardware engineering team SHOULD be doing. Management at director level or lower should’ve implemented this. they do testing with their other products why is this a fail at APPLE.

like which consumer parent of toddlers or preschoolers is going to buy small batteries without Bitte rcoating in this day and age (that loves and cares for their kids btw)??!!!

guns? guns?! This is what you bring to the conversation about batteries?! Seriously?? Completely irrelevant! At least australia doesn’t have repeated trending massive k12 school shootings in various states! They still have their property owned by citizens and no fears or worries nor action by their government to seize their land btw.

if you’re over 37yrs old in N A,Erica I’d wager $5 that not only you know about the square battery but when shown at 12 or under you not only tasted the battery but did it more than once on your tongue for the surprise and dumb-thought out “ow” factor too lol 😂

Can't parents just do their jobs as parents, and watch their kids to make sure they don't eat batteries? Am I weird to think that's not asking very much?
Are you a parent?

has your kid ever tripped and fallen and you didn’t prevent it?
has your kid ever had a tantrum not behaving well,
has your kid ever cried based on perceived emotional reasons?
has your kid been slow in speaking at early development stages yet nothing mentally was the root factor?
did your kid learn to swim at 3 or learn to ride a bike at 3?
did you kid get fully out of diapers at 3, 2, 1 yrs old?

if you have a kid and answered yes to any of these why were YOU not doing your job as a parent to teach or precent certain of these situations?! So yeah parents cannot feasibly watch their kids every single moment of their waking minute, some things will slip. Arguably we don’t want kids to be overly coddled either causing them to be super winee or fearful of everything in this world. Yet also not put them at risk of their lives with a product.

Little Jimmy to Mom: "Hey Mom, I just swallowed a battery that tastes funny." Mom: "Okay Jimmy, in 5 hours guess what we get to do?"
Jimmy will probably already be dead in 5 hours. It can take as little s 2 hours for it to basically melt your insides. Here's a delightful video of it burning away through flesh:
Now imaging that in your oesophagus or stomach.

So Apple are suggesting you make sure you keep track of your airtags and ensure they aren’t left in a place where children can get at them?

Uh…isn’t the point of this that the AirTag is supposed to be tracking something that could be susceptible to being left somewhere?

You're not supposed to lose the AirTag'd item on purpose  Hopefully 99% of the time you keep track of your stuff and keep the things that have AirTags on them out of reach of small children. Pretty obvious.

wrong. Here’s a link to Garmins nearly identical advisory.

same issue on bicycle power meters and red dot sights for firearms.

This whole battery thing is going overboard - the locking system Apple uses is the same for pill bottles, and countless other items with potential things for people/children who don’t know any better to swallow. I am pretty sure I swallowed a lot of coins growing up, and bugs and …

People, please give this crap a rest and just read the package and keep the crap out of reach of kids.
It just like the people who put superglue next to their eye drops!!!

RIP common sense.
Lithium batteries kill you unlike coins. They leak chemicals into you.

Duracell button batteries are absolutely awful. They last no time at all. They seem to be cheap rebranded economy batteries.

Buy Panasonic instead. They actually last.

I just had the same problem replacing first time my airtag battery with a Duracell with coating. And although I read on the internet rubbing alcohol does does not help for me exactly the opposite happened. It worked immediately after rubbing it with pure alcohol.

A quick wipe with some disk brake cleaner solved the problem for me. Happy too because I bought two packets of Duracell batteries.

I don’t have a young child, but if I did, I’d consider using a hot glue gun to make the AirTag a little harder to open. The glue is easy enough to remove when it is time to change the battery.
I had the opposite problem. Wish they would put two rough patches so you could open and close easier. And what's weird is only one of the four was really bad.

Biggest 🤦🏼‍♂️ for Apple.

Your battery choice Apple. Your poor battery choice.
No if anything it's where they put the terminals because I put the same battery type in my car fob and it works fine (when I finally put it in the right orientation at least) :D
