Didn't she advocate for the elimination of the human population down to like 450 million people?
reduction in population growth. there's been lots of research in how much it would improve quality of life because of resources and such. But there are obvious, and she was clear to also state them, ethical issues with the execution of such a thing.

It was more a statement about how it would be an idealistic approach to climate and concerns as we could produce enough food and everything with out having so much of a negative impact on the planet is for it not to be able to keep up.

I also think it has something to do with when the human population got bit over that line we saw a major increase in man-made extinctions of species

On a Mac? Well, on a iPhone...

I'm not going to nit pick this ad as others have. Instead I'm just going to say that I love how the chord at the end sounds like a pitched up Mac chime.

The menu bar in the opening segment has Wed Apr 1 as the date. Next year in 2026 April 1 will be a Wednesday. I also noticed that in the keynote for the new phones the phones had dates of April 1.
I'm sure readers here know the significance of the date. I am curious if anyone has noticed that and when did the dates change in recent ads/keynotes? I haven't gone back and looked at old promo footage but being a nerd here for 20 years I think I would have noticed the April 1 date as soon as they starting using it… which in my distracted brain is telling me this is a recent nod to the past.
I hope the 50th is marked by more than a tweet on 4/1/26 by Tim Cook. I would love to see a spring announcement on that date with some special six color themed hardware.

What Jane Goodall actually said at the 2020 World Economic Forum regarding the future of the Amazon rainforest:

“We cannot hide away from human population growth, because it underlies so many of the other problems. All these things we talk about wouldn’t be a problem if the world was the size of the population that there was 500 years ago.”

It’s the most incredible ad ever created with the latest technology featuring our very own JAine Goodall - we think you’re gonna love it. -Tim Apple

Feels odd. Somehow the ad seems super generic, doesn't even reference to Dr. Jane Goodall and her life at all, they could have used any other voice over as well and nothing would have changed.
Likely their agency had this recording in the drawer for months if not years.
Why release it now, especially in that form? If they wanted to truly honor her life and perhaps collect some karma points from fans, the ad should have referenced her more – make it emotional, add a RIP and acknowledgment, portrait if she had some special relationship with Apple and Macs, really make the ad about her, make it more similar to the think different area ads.
Alternatively, if they wouldn't want to go that route with their campaign – fully understandable as well – they should have just scrapped the voice over, leave it in the drawer, let someones else re-record it and call it a day.

But this feels just indecisive, and without a plan, like ignoring or forgetting she just passed away.

It's almost like they are trying to take advantage of her name, brand, image, recognition, likeness and recent passing. ...

To hawk Macs.

It's gross. 🤮

Interesting...since many countries are facing unsustainable population declines. I humbly disagree with her.

I love macOS and the dock, it only takes 5 minutes using a Windows to realise how horrific software can be. MacOS is so beautiful, coherent, and stable it makes using computers a joy

I could do without Apple using the voices of great leaders from history quite honestly.

Their value set does not generally match up anymore with any of those of the voices they tend to use.

No, obviously she advocated for product consumption from a 4 trillion-dollar tech company.
Seem crass to me, on one hand the late Dr. Goodall is under the impression that an explosion in human population is an issue, on the other hand her voice is being used by a consumer tech company who profits from more consumers purchasing their products and services. Unless the claim is being made that only the wealthy or privileged has a right to life and consumer electronic products.

Make issue more subjective was her appearance at WEF which could be seen as nothing more than an old boys club to preach to the “have nots” what is good for them?

The pulpit preaching is just nauseating.
