People are actually looking to purchase this? This thing is a rip off.

It's too early to say that. $350 for a great portable speaker isn't unreasonable, if it's truly great sounding. But functionally it's a bit too skewed to Apple Music. It's like an Apple Music accessory that can also work as a stand-alone speaker. I'd rather have a real smart speaker system.

Well.... how is his different from any other apple product ? Pricing all round is .... right up there .

I'd honestly say it's the norm. And if people are prepared to buy it.... it will not change .

Myself I see little value, but others .... let's see

Yeah... 5-10 years ago I'd have said no way, Apple will crush everyone else because they always "do it better" ... but this is 2017 and that's not how Apple is anymore, so I think your comment is absolutely accurate. Apple will always be years behind everyone else until they go back to a more forward-thinking leadership team.

I have one and it's great. There's not much tie-in with iPhone needed, but you can install the Alexa app, and the bluetooth pairs nicely. None of that is needed though. As a bit of personal advice, wait until Black Friday to order, every year Amazon and Best Buy always have huge black Friday discounts on them.
Thanks to all those who replied.

Amazon currently have a sale on for the Echo 2nd gen - £69.99 from £89.99. But will hold tight till black Friday.

its portable ?

Do you think they finally noticed the problem of defining which device the user was trying to use when you say "Hey Siri" in a house with more than one Apple product?

Craig federighi actually addressed this concern during the Daring Fireball WWDC 2017 interview. They already have this solved in the current form of ios. All of your devices communicate with each other and decide amongst themselves which will pick up the buck.

All the things in the list came later than they should have - if at all - and the Jet Black 7 Plus, AirPods, Apple Pay Cash, Messages in iCloud, and HomePod all missed self-imposed dates.

iPhone was announced in January and shipped in June, iPad was announced in January and shipped in April. Neither missed a self-imposed date.

Remember when Steve kept pushing back the release of the white iPhone? Took a long time for that to come around.....so there is nothing new here.

I'm not surprised. The number of new hardware and software that Apple released this year is mind boggling. Their developers must be working full throttle this year.

That would be true if Apple hadn't flat out announced it'd be here by now.

So? At the end of the day the responsibility is with Amazon for failure to release it when they told Apple to announce it. It's not as if Apple made up some random date and didn't have permission from Amazon to make mention of the release.

The point still stands, Amazon and Amazon alone is responsible for their app not being released yet. It has nothing to do with Apple. They were simply the messenger.

Damn. With Amazon releasing new Echos with much better sound quality than their previous models, I wonder if they need to get that price down to a more reasonable level.
What? Who? Apple? Don't count on it. They will charge us an arm and a leg for it... and we'll still buy it. This is a vicious freakin circle.

Gutted - I’ve already sold all of my Sonos gear - was hoping to treat myself to 5 Homepods for Xmas....

that was risky. sonos is generally thought to be relatively good in terms of sound quality - I'd have waited till I heard apple's unit. Which so much emphasizes on form over function (example, backward facing imac speakers) I would not be sure the apple's product fill sound as good as your old sonos systems.

Apple rushed it, so now they better add more features. Entire Apple lineup is kind of boring this year. in my opinion iphone x is bugly and not worth an update, bit gimmicky to my taste, maybe next year. Ios is so dumb every year, more and more features are removed, pro apps are gone. It looks like soon everyone will just use it as FCBK, Twitter and other "happy" apps.

I may have missed it, but I'm more interested in how the iMac Pro is tracking.
Was it initially slated for a DEC availability? Have we heard anything different?

Hahaha why did they announce this at WWDC?

Maybe they did not expect that the iPhone 8 and iPhone X would be such a success that people would end up not having enough money left over for other Christmas presents. In this case it is strategically better to postpone it to Q1 or even Q2 of 2018 and then claim what a huge success it is. If they start selling it in Q4 and sales are not as expected it will look bad.

Having almost 300 replies to the delay in just a few countries show that it won't be a flop. When the Apple Watch
was announced there were similar threads around. Apple were too late to the table, Siri not good enough etc. Apple sold millions of watches since.
AirPods were also delayed with almost the exactly the same statement, Apple only recently caught up with demand.
I will wait and see before I buy, but am so far quite keen to get one or two.

Based on the fact that there have been ZERO leaks showing parts or production or anything similar, I wouldn't be holding my breath for a December release. When TC introduced it at the key note in June, it was almost like it was just a concept at that time... a pipe dream that'd happen only if they were able to overcome 10+ issues that come with packing such power into a space that small. Time will tell, but if it follows their trend of release delays as of late, I wouldn't hold my breath.
