It would have been less expensive to buy SONOS. Apple is too late to the speaker party.

Hardly. Sonos and smart speakers in general have a very small market penetration. There’s still a huge number of untapped customers. Especially for a device that integrates better with existing Apple devices.

Like the year between the iPhone announcement and release or 6 months between iPad announcement and release?

Not sure why Apple under Mr. Cook now feels like they need to announce things that are not close to ready. I thought they did not move product launches/release date unless hell freezes over. They seem to be getting a little sloppy on their stealth like product pipeline.

Absolute joke of a company of late...an absolute joke.

How on earth can it take so long to bring such a product to market ... it's not as if they are low on cash.

They are already 2 years late coming to market in this instance. In fact, every single product they develop takes an absolute age to actually hit the market. If I hear the term 'coming this fall' one more time I think I will scream.

From what I gather from initial reviews of the device when first announced, its main selling point was its sound .... but that has very likely just been easily beaten by the new Sonos One.

Come on Apple, FGS get your act together.

It was nice back when Apple waited until things were ready to announce them.
Well didn’t it sort of announce itself and then leaked everything about iPhone X? It was sort of like a roll of toilet paper and Wikileaks had a baby.

The only thing that was actually announced and delayed from this list is AirPods.
All the things in the list came later than they should have - if at all - and the Jet Black 7 Plus, AirPods, Apple Pay Cash, Messages in iCloud, and HomePod all missed self-imposed dates.

Like the year between the iPhone announcement and release or 6 months between iPad announcement and release?
iPhone was announced in January and shipped in June, iPad was announced in January and shipped in April. Neither missed a self-imposed date.

They probably should have launched it in March or April to begin with. I feel like that's a good time of year for Apple to announce new products and work out the kinks. Autumn and the holiday shopping season is a very busy time for them. The Apple Watch was announced early and released the following spring and it did quite well.

Work out the kinks? Its a blinking speaker that responds to voice commands. Its hardly rocket science. It was announced like 6 months ago. Pathetic.

A Little Sloppy? Apple is growing too fast under Tim's Reign. Everything from Code, to product Roll Outs are sloppy as mud these days. The Quality/Intuitiveness is no longer as defined by SJ. Hey Tim, take a break from Apple getting into Movie Production and focus on Coding for a while, eh? :apple:

To lock out competitors.

"Honey, let's buy a Sonos spea... wait, let's wait until Christmas, Apple will have the Homepod."

Why would it matter? The others: Sonos, Google, Alexa are all better than Siri and about the only thing this had going for it was the supposed good sound quality. Sonos has that as well and many other manufacturers are starting to build Google Home spaeakers.

Man, if Apple announces a product and then can't even deliver it 6 months after the announcement, that makes me scared for how long I'll have to wait before getting my hands on the upcoming modular Mac Pro... :(

Exactly. Mac Pro will deffo be 2019 .... probably fall 2019. They can't even deliver a blinking voice controlled speaker in 6 months.

Why fail now, when you can fail in 2018?

Amazon must be laughing their asses off today. Look at all of those Back Friday Echo 2.0 deals about to happen. There will be no market space left when Apple finally shows up.

Gutted - I’ve already sold all of my Sonos gear - was hoping to treat myself to 5 Homepods for Xmas....

Really ... Jeese .... I will be amazed if the HomePod sounds as good as the Sonos One. I still find it incredible at just how good Sonos sounds.

Suuuuure.

Because we all know they’re pulling software engineers away from one project and getting them involved in movies. /S

Not my point. Lack of Corporate Priorities, focus, commitment to each platform equally. However I will agree the Code Slingers are writing some pretty sloppy lines from somewhere. Most likely not a Movie Studio. ;)

Good luck with that. I reckon the Sonos One will easily outsell the HomePod. For starters, users of both Android and iOS will buy the Sonos .... and its easy integration with Spotify will be a major factor.

Integrates better with Apple devices how? Other than the SONOS system, my home 'infrastructure' is Apple, and I have no complaints about having SONOS in that equation. It all works very nicely. Now, I am not a fan of the personal assistants (Siri or Alexa [privacy reasons]), so if that is the reason for considering the Homepod, I can't argue. But I am very happy with my SONOS set up (Soundbar, sub and two Play:1s for living room and surround: 1 Play:3 for office, and 1 Play:3 for kitchen).

Cost of a Homepod is 349? One Sonos Play:1 is 199 or two for 350 - 398. Is there really going to be value in premium apple is charging?

That's 100% on Amazon. Apple has no part in Amazon choosing to design and release an app.
That would be true if Apple hadn't flat out announced it'd be here by now.

Unfortunately, just about everything they release is behind the times. Is there no one at Apple recognizing this? And then, they will say it is perfected. You got to produce more than talk. Time to get the old guys off stage and bring in the new.
Wait, what? They just introduced inductive charging for the phone -- SUPER HIGH TECH.

Is this really surprising?
There have been few rumors or much buzz from anyone about the product even though it was scheduled for December launch.
As successful as they are, it seems that Apple can't tie it's own shoelaces sometimes.
I still prefer Apple products (though much of that is due to being so heavily invested in the ecosystem) but Apple is doing little to differentiate it's products from its competitors.
