I am looking forward to AirPlay 2 and I bet they hold it out until the HomePod actually makes it to market.

Right now, Apple has more than 30 million subscribers to Apple Music and it is the only voice controlled Assistant that has the service. That will sell a lot of Homepods, and conversely, people interested in the speaker may subscribe to AM because of it.

I have a few Dots around and a preorder of the Spot, so I like my Alexa devices. I still will consider getting a Homepod if it can control AirPlay 2 devices like my Apple TVs. However, I can wait for them to get it right and for it to come to market before making a final decision. Not really a big deal for me. I can connect the iPhone with the Dot via Bluetooth or use AirPlay for now.

Hahaha why did they announce this at WWDC?

Exactly they should NOT be in this market!

Genuinely peeved. It'll be great, but not sure why the delay. I've been holding out for this bad boy.

You’ve been holding out for a speaker? Oh wait sorry give been holding out for an internet connected speaker that pails widely in comparison for connecting even the manufacturers own services or more so 3rd party services?! You are aware there are evenly priced, better sounding speakers or connected speaker systems on the market right? Right?!!

To lock out competitors.

"Honey, let's buy a Sonos spea... wait, let's wait until Christmas, Apple will have the Homepod."

Yeah some lock out lmao! That’s all lost now. Amazon, then Sonos, then UE has taken almost ALL of Apple’s customers. Third party music services work on just about all the competitions products.

Many bird party’s probably didn’t even update their apps nor services to feature the HomePod.

Jobs when at Apple killed heir speaker products years ago! And for the simplistic reason is that they where losin sales to iPod competitors - especially Jose that where cheaper, used less power, and worked better for their purpose. (Ahem, JBL SoundDock etc)

I’d bet the Beats division could design a better speaker and even more of them that could be connected.

Apple shouldn’t have announced he HomePod. They should’ve had a fleet of he connected speakers that can be linked: night table, small room (HomePod) and even SoundBar/sub-woofer speaker pieces to complete the set! Then Apple could launch or party with a camera security system - speakers having sensors and then speakers can sound the alarm.

You haven't even used the HomePod to make these bold statements when comparing it to other speakers, chill. That being said, I agree with with the rest of your comment.

end of the day it's best for them to get it right than rush it out, no?

for all we know it could be an amazing piece of kit that beats whatever is out now. Will see I guess.

Apple has lost this battle before it even enters. I’m sure a small contingent will buy, but this will definitely be a flop (on the Apple scale).
I agee, HomePod has to be really something now with all the amazon & google devices already in play, with this delay people will go with one of the above devices and apple will miss out
[doublepost=1510994495][/doublepost]
That should have been fixed in iOS 11, try it
I updated to 11. Something or other, as far as I can tell all devices are activated at hey Siri

I want to get one, but it still feels like Siri needs to get WAY better before it will be useful. If Siri on AppleTV is an indication, the HomePod will return some pretty bad results.
I personally question this whole product category. Like wearables, it seems largely supply driven at this point.

When will people get that Apple doesn’t care about being first. They care about getting it right.

Like the first two generations of the watch?

will it be great? It uses Siri, so don't expect any useful searches. Google now is so much superior.

They are so far behind the game, hoping they just accept Siri has been defeated and make something that interacts with google now
So true.

How is this Homepod going to work? It needs an lcd screen to display the search result when siri says "here's what I found on the web" instead of actually intelligently selecting and providing the actual information like Google Assistant does.

She's great at preprogrammed jokes though so that's the most important thing, right? ;)

Error. Eddy Cue could not be found. And Joni is getting rid of the AUX input.
Which isn't a problem - iPhones sales are OK.

She’s just going to tell you to look at your iPhone like the Apple Watch does, most likely.

Disappointing. Stop announcing stuff that’s not ready! I know you do it to muddy the waters for consumers making buying decisions but enough! I like what I’ve seen on the HomePod audio front but worry about Siri, although I know it does improve the more you use it. Looking forward to the 2018 release but will be reading the reviews closely!!

You’re correct. Yet nobody has actually fully heard them except press and those that attended WWDC. Mind you at limited volume range and with so many people in a studio room and chatter of the crowd. Nobody was allowed to touch them or connect. This screams immaturity of Apple and moreover the product. I don’t know of any other product shown off by Apple since 1999 in which they’ve done that.

I worry Apple lost sight of the main feature of the speaker and is only now realizing the laughing stock what Siri is to the industry and the public.

Siri in current iteration:
Play Apple Music
Order Apple products only.
Limited commands and queries.

I want Siri to evolve badly like 2 yrs ago. Since then I’ve used Siri less and less, almost embarrassed to since I’ll get snyde jokes when I get repsonses or none as all. If I can’t ask Siri the time when not internet connected on my phone, how is Siri going to fix an issue with a HomeKit product?

The speaker may sound good, right now too good to be true due to the delay and there are far many other offers out there for a solid speaker. Resources should’ve been put into getting and proving Siri as a modern internet assistant, even back into a leading device first before looking at other products to use the service. That maybe going on right now.

Did you know there is an executive specifically heading Siri now?

What is invented in Cupertino, stays in Cupertino!

Everything falls apart at Apple these days. iOS 11 is a mess, bugs over bugs, battery drain not fixed, nothing happens on the software side.

The hardware has sunk below 100€ phones from the Chinese grey market. The 8 struggles with blown up batteries, wireless charging stops if the phone vibrates or is moved a nanomicrometer by letting a leaf fall on the table.

The X came with a faulty display, an unsecure and needless face id implementation, a stupid design fault called notch and it can't even be sold because of production delay.

Now the Pod. A speaker isn't space tech. The hardware is not the problem, the software is. Again, they could not roll out a working OS, and they can't code their pod os. Speaks books about the intern situation.

Cook is the wrong guy. He does not love using technique, and he does not love customers. Apple is too big for him.

I won an Echo Dot from a raffle at work. It pretty much collects dust except for checking the weather on the way out the door. For me, it's just as easy to check my phone app.

Perhaps it's the way you are using it, or thinking of using it.
As you say, all the info is on your phone, but will you always have the phone to hand in any area of the home you move to.

Example, I set a timer on my Echo in my lounge to remind me the washing machine was done.
I was in the bedroom, changing bed sheets and I heard the timer.
I have a dot in the bedroom, so was able to just say stop the timer as I had sheets in my hands, and my phone was back in the lounge.

They are cheap complimentary devices to your phone.
Perhaps you have been in the garden, or cutting up food with dirty hands and you don't wish to touch your phone, you can just ask for some info, or about the weather or to check on something.

They are the type of devices, that, even if you only use them for half a dozen things, they are just handy to have.
