Makes me think about the Apple 1984 ad against IBM. And now Apple is the new big brother.
Which is arguably why Android exists: someone over at Google decided that the world needed a new underdog.

Of course, at this point Android isn't really an underdog either... so ya know. Yay, duopoly for the win... or something like that?

Also, it's funny to me how we all pretty much ignore the Windows desktop marketshare entirely, at this point...

After 11.1 my phone got screwed up and it also gave error when getting reinstalled via iTunes recovery mode. So had to restore to fix the issue where it got struck in Apple logo when reporting to Apple, they say this issue has already surfaced on some device and engineers are working on fix. Why can’t they jus hold the release if they’re with bugs which bricks their phone

Wish I hadn’t updated.
Battery issues from the moment I downloaded. All sorts of new but confusing areas.
I noticed an improvement after 11.1
[doublepost=1510158106][/doublepost]Another likely explanation for the slower adoption rate is the delayed launch of the iPhone X.

I was not talking from that point of view. My observation was from the point of view that Apple tells us what we should do instead of letting us do what we want to do.

That has basically always been the approach with iOS and iOS devices.

I played around with an SE running 11 in an Apple Store. Much less responsive than my 5S running 10.3.

Maybe next spring Apple will upgrade the SE and call it the SE X.

Does "adoption" refer only to devices where the user upgraded to iOS 11, or does it also include devices that shipped with iOS 11 already installed?

Do we have a graph for the install percentage of the different android versions?
Why? This post is about iOS adoption. Smh

[doublepost=1510168968][/doublepost]
Other smart phone competitors would love to have a 52% adoption rate for their downloads.
Not talking about other phones. Just iPhones

It's likely more than 90% of Android smartphone users don't concern themselves with OS updates. They can take it or leave it as long as they're not have any serious OS problems. Most Android users buy a cheap smartphone and they use it until it dies. When they buy a new Android smartphone they get the updated OS. Most people I've known who use Android smartphones have no idea what OS level their smartphone is running. Why should they care? I always thought that mainly developers were concerned with how well the platform was maintained. With all the carriers and brands involved using Android, there's no way anyone can keep track of OS updates for a billion or more smartphones. Most active Android smartphones will always be years behind Google's latest OS. Android market share percentage continues to grow to prove almost no one cares whether their smartphone's OS is up-to-date or not.
Same with iPhone users. Most don’t give a damn what version of iOS they are on. As long as it works.

And I would guess 30% of those got fed up it’s constant upgrade messages, enter your pin to postpone... I do love how Apple shoves it’s updares down your throat, it caught my mum out, luckily all her apps still work otherwise the iPad would be gone!

Hint: Install tvOS beta...

I did and I couldn't be happier. No popup notification for me :)

Yup, that's what I did for me. Running 9.3.5 and it's happy as Larry. Not a fan of the iOS 10 layout and most people I've spoken to say iOS 11 knackers their battery about 30% faster than older OS's.

Apple is capable of offering better backward compatibility so that older software would work under the new iOS. This would get a lot more people to upgrade.

Also if you annoy users with 10 notifications a day about new iOS update, that ought to help too.

I never said Apple was deliberately slowing down the CPU and GPU. You don't understand the report, it is showing the CPU and GPU speeds are not being deliberately slowed by Apple. The issue is each iOS release has more "functionality" that older CPUs cant run fast enough to keep up, thats my complaint.

oh and Arstechnica tested ios 10 vs 11 and showed all apps were 1-3 seconds slower to open as was boot time on the 5s iphone.

Can you please direct me on how to do the tvOS beta profile trick? Is this accurate?

yep...

We're really missing out, not running Marshmallow in 2017.
I have Marshmallow. I have yet to use Nougat nor Oreo. However, my phone already does everything I need it to, so I'm not bummed about missing out. In fact, if there's a chance it can slow things down, then the upgrade can be a liability!

iOS 11 is now installed on 52 percent of iOS devices, according to new statistics that Apple shared today on its App Store support page for developers.

This is the first time that Apple has updated its App Store support page since the release of iOS 11, and the first look we've had at official installation numbers.

ios11installation.jpg

We've previously only seen installation estimates from analytics company Mixpanel, which appear to be quite a bit different. Mixpanel currently lists iOS 11 installation at just about 66 percent.

With iOS 11 installed on 52 percent of devices, 38 percent continue to run iOS 10. 10 percent are still on an earlier version of iOS.

iOS 11 adoption has been slower than iOS 10 adoption was last year, but the number of devices with the update installed has grown steadily since the new update was released.

Apple has thus far released several updates for iOS 11, including iOS 11.1, the first major iOS 11 update. iOS 11.1 introduced new emoji, brought back the 3D Touch App Switcher, and included some critical security fixes.

iOS 11.2, an update currently in testing, will be the first major update to bring a new feature -- Apple Pay Cash -- which could encourage additional users to upgrade to the new operating system.

HORRIBLE OS, drains battery, touch screen issues (Original screen, not replaced) just now restored to 10.3.3

How does that compare to other major upgrades at this time after release? Anecdotally, I’d say a fewer percentage have upgraded...I know more friends who’ve refused this upgrade than any other major upgrade I can remember.

The general feeling seems to be that there’s nothing compelling for them plus the widespread belief that Apple software QC is not doing an adequate job. Too many problems and software conflicts are making it through pre-release testing. And I think there’s something to that when beta testers report flagging problems; yet, they are ignored by Apple and end up in the GM.

What’s that saying, something like ‘Never enough time to fix a known problem now but plenty of time is available after the SHTF.”

Yet, all android phones are running as expected without slowing down their device.
You can't be serious? I've actually used an Android device, quite a high-end one even. The constant lag and zero long-term support is what brought me back to the iPhone. I don't care even if the next year's Android devices ship with 64 GB of RAM - it will still not be enough for that OS.

Did they clear out the kinks in the OS because I am still running 10 and I see no reason to update yet? anyone thinks its worth taking the risk or should I wait longer?

Apple keeps nagging to update which bothers me.

Time to yet another "Update to iOS11" nag screen across all "non-collaborating" iPhones and iPads worldwide, I'm afraid. Oh Apple, how strong is your disgusting style these years, specially for those of us who enjoyed your best years.

I did that too in order to make sure that my iPhone SE stays at 10.3. But it is not preferred. The more I have to do to avoid Apple's "happy path", the more incentive I have to switch to something where I'll have less "swimming against current" to do.

They seriously need to stop releasing big updates every year and fix everything. iOS 6 and 7 were great and smooth, 8 started to lack behind, 9 was trash, 10 fixed it a little, then 11 pushed it further than 9 ever did. They really need to slow major revisions to every 2 years. It would benefit us a lot more. The Mac sure did benefit from it with Snow Leopard back then.
Everyone's experiences are unique, but for me, iOS 6 (the last point release in 6) was the last great version of iOS. As bad as iOS 11 seems, my experiences with iOS 7 were far worse.

52 percent of all devices, or 52 percent of devices eligible for the upgrade?
yeah, haha. thats what i had to laugh about at a keynote 1 or 2 years ago.

they compared the percentage of all ios9/10-eligible apple-devices that had ios 9/10 (whatever was new then) installed to android 7 on ALL android-devices, the majority of which obviously wasnt compatible with android 7 to begin with.
