I will be happy to update when the 32 bit apps I paid for work.
You have to contact developers and remember they doing free work, the fact you paid once doesn't mean you get free updates for life. Maybe try to find alternative apps which are up to date?

I wonder how high the upgrade percent would be if Apple didn't spam a users phone daily trying to force and trick them into updating their IOS.

Exactly! I'm so annoyed at the recent news about the auto slower performance that I'm stubbornly refusing to upgrade my older devices until they release the update which gives us the choice to shut that off.

iOS 11 is 64.999% now that I got my iPad 2 back to iOS 6.1.3, now trying to see if I can get my iPad 3 to downgrade, not holding out any hope.

Always makes me angry when they compare adoption rates for iOS and Android. Nobody who uses an Android phone bothers to upgrade their OS version because it’s not important.
It's like telling iOS users how Android has 90% of the market share (or whatever majority it currently is). They don't care.

Here, my LG G4 came with 5.1.1, and got an update to 6.0. I don't believe I can update to 7/Nougat, nor 8/Oreo, but I don't care... it already does everything I need it to as far as essentials go. When this phone's batteries die (plural because I got a spare battery at one point), I'll just buy more and swap it in (user replaceable). If it's the phone itself, I'll just buy a replacement for around $220

Ditto with my other devices that run on OSes... my home computer's still on Windows 7. My Ipad Air is still on ios8. My iPod Touch 5 is still on ios7.

My Chromebook gets updated, but there, it eventually "forces itself". One update did leave more battery drain when the screen is off, so it lost some points there. I have to put it in sleep mode just to be on the safe side. Luckily, it reboots quickly, so it's not that bad.

The scenario you just described is exactly what Microsoft Windows does for decades. And you could see how windows xp still hold strong for a full decade, and now windows 7.

If Apple allows software downgrade, people would stick to versions like iOS 9, 10, or god forbidden, anything below iOS 6 if device is supported.
If people were able to choose the version to have installed; would it not provide incentive for Apple to make sure their latest version works / is usable?
On reflection; that's probably exactly the reason they'll try to prevent it ever happening.

I have an iPad Air that was perfectly fine with iOS 10. Now I belong to the 65% group, huge mistake. Only hope is that Apple releases a clean, decent version of iOS which most likely won't happen because of profit. Moving to Android and Windows.
I have an iPad Air as well, but it's still on ios8. I've had reservations about ios11, and that's not even factoring in any apps I'd lose that didn't make the transition to 64-bit. I think I'll stay on ios8. It's nearly exclusively a gaming device, and there isn't really anything that's crucial on the software side that requires an updated version, or otherwise that I couldn't get via whatever's left in the 32-bit App Store.

I had to update my 6 through the restoration process in order to send it to Apple for the battery replacement. Not sure how I feel about that. At least it will be safe from Meltdown now.

I have noticed that althought restored and started up as a new device, the interface of iOS was a little hiccup-py on this old phone.

Not as terrible as I had imagined.
This will buy me time until the next purchase, and I can make the 6 my new backup phone.

4S in 2018 is brutal.

If I paid 5 dollars to play Katamari....I expect to play Katamari.
If I paid 5 dollards to play Jet Set Radio....I expect to play Jet Set Radio.
And from a consumer point of view, should not have to look for substitutes when the OS the play on changes.

4S rocking with iOS 6, 5s rocking with iOS 7, 6s rocking with iOS 9, X would want to get iOS 6's beautiful design if possible.
I use two old ipods using iOS6 for security cameras, and each interaction with them is so, so, sooooo much more fulfilling than what we've been dealt since 2013.

That’s because they didn’t have a hardware guy who has zero experience with software behind the design and whoever else is currently behind it mucking up the rest. They had common sense back then you see, or at least Steve did. No Steve there = bad decisions being made as we’ve began to notice over recent years. Like firing Scott Forstall and making fun of him during the WWDC iOS 7 keynote just because of some stitched leather and green felt when they’ve been doing a p** poor job with the software and have made it worse in many areas ever since.

2. if developer don't update.. kappish
3. if user don't upgrade the phone .. kapish

** zzz dustbin mac pro
** zzz mac mini 2014

Just upgraded to Windows 10 Spring creators and no issues anywhere and battery life has increased. Seems such a contrast to the massive unoptimised bugfest that is iOS 11.
