Well, it uses power and energy to vibrate. Nothing is free of power, and I actually don't mind since I don't type all day on my phone. It is a good haptic on keystrokes.
I disagree ;)

Another Android feature that wastes battery life?? No way!
I'm not sure how it has anything to do with it being a feature on Android, but the fact that you need electricity to make the haptic engine vibrate it's just common sense you'll use more battery life with it on vs. off.

Unless you type a lot most users probably won't notice to much of a difference.

Just hating on Android for something Apple took "inspiration" from and brought to ios and you can turn off in either operating system?

Its almost like running the AC in the car... Do you keep the windows down or run the AC..

Eh.. The haptic feedback is one feature I like. Its like having a physical keyboard. I can see how this can use battery...

"Turning on keyboard haptics might affect the battery life of your iPhone," - that's cute. Although it's true: It won't affect battery life as long as you don't use the keyboard after turning this on.

just turned it on for the first time. I feel like my fingers can type faster than the haptic feedback, so it just seems as if my phone is vibrating the whole time I’m typing. Also I think my brain has become accustomed to using the sound of my fingers hitting the screen as feedback. Guess I’ll turn it off and save some battery.

Has anyone tested if it can be heard on phone calls on the opposite end? Its distracting and pretty annoying when in meetings or talking to someone directly you can hear constant short buzzing.

No one has mentioned hearing it to me. It's a very subtle haptic feedback, and your finger pressing the screen makes more noise than the haptic does.

I turned off the always-on display to save battery life, yet I’m still noticing what feels like shorter battery life on my 14 Pro Max. Maybe it’s because the of the haptics but it does improve the “feel” of typing so for now I’ll leave it on.. The AOD on the other hand served no purpose for me.

You keep the windows closed and leave the ac on to get better mileage. With the windows open you loose aerodynamic causing drag which gives you worse fuel efficiency.

Well thank you Apple, I couldn't have possibly guessed that using the haptic engine more would use more battery.

Once again, we are saved by the world's worst superhero...

EDIT: Seriously though the feature is worth it. I feel like the haptic feedback makes me a better phone typist.

Now we know the camera was working as intended. Apple wanted it to be a haptic feedback camera to let you know when it is zooming and focusing. Just wasn't quite ready for primetime.

Haptic keyboard is extremely nice, IMHO.

It was lovely when Apple added haptics to the passcode on Apple Watch, and this feature coming to iPhone is the icing on the cake, likely minuscule effect on battery life notwithstanding!

I think always on display will consume 10x+ more.. afraid because the 14Pro already has sh!% battery life as it is even if brightness is set to 1/4 up?
