I've been a Pro user for years, mostly because of the better screen and camera flexibility, but increasingly I'm finding myself taking photos that aren't as demanding, and prioritizing weight and size. I went with the Pro last year because the Pro Max in a case with a magnetic wallet attached to it is a 2lb brick that simply destroys my pockets.

It may be a mistake but I am going to try the Air this year. Bigger screen than the Pro I have, but also 2 oz less weight would be welcome. My wife has the better camera now, so the compromises may be ok, assuming battery life is indeed equal to that of the 16 Pro (27h).
You should look at the base 17 instead. Best value there is and is basically a “pro” phone. Outclasses the Air in every way except thinness. And even then the base 17 is much thinner and lighter than the Pro models too.

Mono speaker, single camera, horrible battery...a step backwards to 2010
According to Apple‘s tech spec page for the iPhone Air, it has a stereo speaker.
My assumption is the other speaker is underneath the glass, but officially their specifications page does say that it is stereo.

I love the concept. But what I really dislike about this iPhone Air-
- size, would've hoped 6.1"
- the shiny borders. I much prefer the look of titanium or even aluminum to those shiny ones
- the price. Apple is probably charging much more because this is the future, but it's way too much

It's very easy to not choose the Air imo

Confirmation of two years to mass production of full visible spectrum achromatic metalenses? This is [potentially] great news! Unless they intend to retain the warts-on-a-tumor design.

Better than the 16 Pro, which is more than enough for many people, like me. My 15 Pro has 90% health and still lasts me just about all day. So this one lasting longer than the 16 Pro, which has better battery life than a brand new 15 Pro, which has better battery life than my used one, will surely be enough

Only because it doesn't have a battery you can use to charge your car doesn't mean it has a horrible battery.

Yeah, not sure where all of the complaints about the battery keep coming from other than people just making stuff up about a phone that hasn’t even launched yet.
Officially its battery specifications according to Apple‘s testing are about on par with the 15 Pro Max, so… totally fine.
Also last year, Apple made the super thin iPad Pro, which I have, and its battery is… also fine.
The phone is thin, yes, but with how wide and tall it is, and with almost all of the components in the top bar, the room for battery still seems quite spacious.
Also the official mAh capacity seems significantly higher than rumors were targeting it at, rumors were saying 2800 and it’s actually way closer to 3200 mAh.
At least before the phone releases from what we can tell, based off of the quoted hours and the capacity, the battery life should be… fine.
This isn’t a 12 Mini situation where we are dealing with a battery that’s got a sub-2000 mAh capacity.

When apple starts using the new silicone-carbon batteries, they can make the air thinner and add more to it. The new air seems to be an experiment for them. I kinda of want one. It really is a pretty device.

I would have thought that like other iPhones the stereo effect would be achieved through the bottom speaker and the earpiece. But that's not possible with the Air; the bottom has two stereo microphones but no speaker. The only speaker is the earpiece. That's really strange. Since there's a microphone on the top of the device for the video camera, they could have put just one mic on the bottom and achieved stereo recording (as many other iPhones have done). That would have allowed them to put a speaker on the bottom and have stereo sound. Maybe they think most people use their iPhones while wearing AirPods.

I have always wanted the tech they have on the Expanse tv show. View attachment 2546662
An AppleWatch projecting an iPhone screen would probably be better and have the flexibility to have any display sized screen. Apple should really focus that vice making thin or folding phones which is have technical limitations.

Screen projection in sunlight can have a power light boost function.

To get to a single slab of glass, they’d need to copy Sony’s “acoustic surface” that uses glass to create sound, make batteries transparent or at least use that technology that can make glass transparent and opaque thru software, and have a way of never needing to access the internals of the device for repair.

It’s gonna be a minute.

There was a sci-fi series "The Expanse" that featured something like our smart phones that looked like a single slab of glass. Sort of cool, though I don't want phones that you can see through.

But it's one of the bulkiest iPhone ever. Its thinness is the same lie as the thinness of the older MacBook Air, measured at it's thinnest point. My pocket cares about the thickest, thank you very much.

But yet, the 20th Anniversary iPhone may be an all-glass design but will still have a USB Type C port. Reason: likely EU requirements for such a port since many users will not have access to a wireless charging systems.

Where did you see this? The tech spec page only details capture of stereo audio for video and front camera recordings.

iPhone Air - Tech Specs

Whats the point of this device?
The specs are worse than standard iP17 at a higher cost.
The AIR is only thinner (in some areas), but not smaller. Therefore it is still not usable single handed or for people with smaller hands. It will be same uncomfortable grip like iP17.
Why does this exist? It makes no sense to me.

An iPhone mini makes sense for smaller hands (children, smaller female hands, ...), but this was discontinued having customer value being smaller. AIR makes zero sense to me.
