Bad to hear about this. Apple should have corrected this before the release of the new iPad Air.

Sure but why introduce it as a 10-core product, with all the reviews created sharing that spec, and then after all the reviews post they update the documentation to the true spec. That is really shady. Not the first time we've seen a company change the spec of a product after the reviews come out though.
Wait, are you saying you think they released a 10 core version for reviews, but then released a 9 core version for the public? That would indeed be shady and completely worthy of a lawsuit. It would also be more effort than it was worth if they were then going to update the technical specifications with correct information themselves, immediately after, without anyone else first pointing out the issue and forcing their hand. It seems a pretty simple test to simply compare the original benchmarks against a "new" 9 core model to see if they match and this was simply a tech spec error for the only version.

Frankly I think this is more of a hanlons razor situation but it's possible.

As I said, the effort beyond Hanlon's Razor seems highly unlikely, and I do not see what potential reward Apple would have seen, especially considering they were going to reveal the mistake on their own.

As they apparently got the benchmarks correct, it seems they simply didn't update the tech specs correctly. Seeing as the 10 GPU core M2 already existed, this seems a fairly obvious failed "search and replace" error, versus a planned overstatement intended to impress. As per Hanlon, mistakes are much more prevalent than conspiracies.

There are proven instances of companies changing products after reviews come out, but I don't think Apple has been found guilty of that so far.
