Correct, the phone can be had for $699, which is a sale. If you are in the target demographic for needing a phone and line, it's a good deal for you.
No, it can't be. If you have $699, you'll still owe Verizon the $30 activation fee. You pay for the phone and activation, not the phone with activation.

Hence my question about the footnotes, which would be considered truth-in-advertising. Where does it way that Verizon charges one $30. Even so the cost of a cell phone is the cost of phone + cost of line. The distinction is often blurred, but that is what it is...unless one will use a new phone as an ipod.

Verizon.net states that it's between $20 and $40.


I agree that it's burred, but at the end of the day it's not a $699 phone. Which is all I'm trying to say. It's a $729 phone, whether you get it via Verizon or unbranded.

What the Verizon website states may not be applicable to this deal as it doesn’t state this in the footnotes.
