There is a lot of fine print, but the price isn't incorrect. You actually have to go to checkout. Verizon gives you a 0% apr rate on the phone and then credits the money back to you. So if you are the demographic that will fit this scenario, it will work out as advertised.
And either way, you end up paying more than $799.

I wouldn't call it $699.

It's $729 if you walk into an Apple store and buy one that you don't need to activate with a carrier.

It's $699 to Apple plus $30 to AT&T/Verizon/etc if you walk into an Apple store and buy one that needs to be activated.

It's impossible to pay for one with $699.
Correct, you can't pay $699, the price nets out to $699. Which isn't an incorrect statement on the website.
And either way, you end up paying more than $799.
How is that? Are you including the cell service, which one needs anyway. Verizon is giving you a 0% apr rate for two years and then crediting your account.

First gen Apple devices generally suck. I think the Magsafe next year is gonna be better in terms of charging speed and hold.

Because you're not paying $799. And yes, I'm including cell service because that's part of the deal. If you could get the phone without bundled service costs or stupid crediting schemes for $799 then you'd be correct, but you can't and so you're not.

You're playing semantics. You can't use any cell phone without cell service. However, it's clear the phone itself is $699 plus you have to pay for cell service, which you would have to pay for anyway for a sim-free...unless you are one in a few that will use it as an ipod.

Nope, you said the phone cost $799, i'm just pointing out that there are a bunch of asterisks on that price that make it deceptive. Obviously, you'll need to pay for service, but the fact remains that the $799 price you listed from carriers isn't really $799. It's $799+whatever they feel like tacking on. If you want those extras anyway, that's fine, but it's still misleading.

The phone does cost whatever the advert says it costs. You still have to pay for cell service, sim free or through Verizon. Your total out of pocket costs is still dependent on the plan that you choose or already have. It's not misleading it says so on the website. You are choosing not to include the cost of cell service, which is misleading, to a point.

I'm choosing to not ignore the full price of the bundle, you're pretending the cost of the plan somehow doesn't affect the price of the phone. Clearly, we're not changing each other's minds here, so I'm going to stop replying after this.

I just got my MagSafe & 20w adapter. Charged my XS overnight in 4 hrs. That isn’t much different than my old 7.5W wireless pad so it works for me. Plus the size difference has to count for something. Didn’t notice anything being hot either. B68AD42E-A01B-4668-A1FD-AD1B539CCFAE.jpeg

I think Apple just marketed wrong. Bad idea to resuse the MagSafe name. It’s basically apples own wireless tech. 12w/15w while most Android is capped at 10w.

Any company that purports to care about the environment shouldn't support wireless charging on their devices - it's up to 50% less energy efficient than wired charging.
Should they also not support wireless headphones or battery cases?

So in a previous post you said you didnt quite see the need for MagSafe, and then you just made an excellent case for it. MagSafe is to secure aligning. It is also to phase out any wired connection to the phone. And its also apple's answer to their AirPower problem, where they tried to come out with a base charger where it didnt matter where you put the device. I can guarantee someone, probably apple, will use MagSafe in a base charger.

Thanks for following along.

Sure, except for the part where the MagSafe puck sticks to your phone when you pick it up. In that usage it seems to me like one might as well stick with a faster and more efficient lightning connection.

But whatever. A base charger that stays put when you pick up the phone, and auto-aligns the phone to solve the qi alignment fiddliness would be the best of both worlds in my opinion.

AT checkout you get an instant credit, then VZW charges you $30 so the price nets out to $699.
this is not what net means

i plan to use it with a service, just not att or verizon or tmobiles service. and to do this/ i have to pay. 729 for the phone

You don't get it but it is quite simple. In this situation wireless chargers are more handy, when you wake up or when you are sleepy. Sometimes, you don't center the pad and charge slow or not at all. Magsafe is better in speed, security and alignment. So it is an upgrade. Simple.
This is BS. I use a wireless charger every night. I don’t have issues cantering the phone on the pad, and even if I did, the thought of waking up sleepy, picking up my phone with an annoying magnetic charger attached, potentially dropping the charger if it unsnaps and then having to find it and reattach it sounds way more hassle than just setting my phone back down and finding I only have 56% battery in the morning because it wasn’t aligned quite right.

The easiest solution to the problem you describe is a better wireless charger like the twelve south picture frame. No misalignment possible, and it looks 100x better than a puck on the end of a cable.
