Apple says more iPhone features still to come....

I'd also like to see real-time GPS with Google Maps perhaps, 3G support, and video capability. The GPS and 3G support would only be possible with a hardware update correct?

For 3G.... yes. For GPS... NO!

I use my Palm Pilot and TomTom software for my GPS system. All the iPhone needs is an external bluetooth GPS receiver and the GPS software. I already have the receiver so as soon as Apple or a 3rd party developer comes out with the software I will be retiring the Palm Pilot.

What is it apple have done with the ringtones and how do you get them onto iTunes

you change the file name extension to .m4r i believe. google it or look around for the exacts.

Apple more than likely thought about all this into the iPhone. Space and battery life was one of the biggest concerns.

Erm, MMS is a BIG feature that is missing.

Here in the UK we use it a LOT! I love my iPhone, but already I am missing the ability to send pictures to my friends in a way that they will be able to see them without having to wait until they get home. MMS is great for pissed up evenings, well, great for the person with the camera :D

you can email it.. lame way yes, but it really isn't missing.

And besides, MMS has little to do with Apple (software), it's more of an ATT decision.

Even the slightest research, such as going to the ATT wireless website, would've shown you that virtually all of the other multimedia phones they sell... from cheap camera phones to Windows Mobile devices... have MMS capability.

Clearly it was something Apple decided.

I haven't sent a single MMS message. I do not want to see a picture of somebody's drunken friend's arse.

Probably with the format of the phone. Probably the iPhones OS related...?

Who knows.

Could of also been in ATT's service plan, that somewhere there would be an issue. Pic size..ie.

Never used MMS myself... couldn't care less about it.

What I want on an iphone update:

1. FIX MAIL. The mail app is by far the weakest app on the iphone. They need landscape mode, mass email selection, and better support for business-type email, for starters. This thing can never be a blackberry replacement as it is.

2. BT file transfer and wireless sync would be nice.

Actually... that's all I really want.

Those saying that "we Brits" use MMS until the cows come home would be better off speaking for themselves. I've received about three MMS messages in my entire life, and sent one. MMS is expensive, facile, and pointless when email is free. We shouldn't be clinging to MMS for dear life just because some people can't be bothered configuring their phones' email functionality.

SMS to multiple recipients. Or just copy/paste so you can send again without retyping. That is a deal breaker for me at present.

I have sent about 3 MMS messages in my entire life so it really is no loss for me.

Am I right in thinking though that on some networks, if you're phone doesn't support MMS, you get a web address to go to so you can view the picture or your drunk mates arse? I know that doesnt help with sending them but it would with the receiving!

It would if the viewing page wasn't written in Flash.

The point with MMS in the UK is that 99% of people can receive them whereas very few people acutally have there phones configured for email access. Of course emailing pictures is better/cheaper etc but Joe Public doesn't know that and the mobile networks sure don't want you to know. It would be wonderful if everyone bought an iPhone and we all just emailed everything instead of SMS/MMS but sadly that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

The incomplete SMS app is a huge problem for me and is making me think of getting a new phone. With thanksgiving just around the corner and Christmas a little over a month away, having to type up the same message many many times to my contacts will suck. The amount of time saved being able to select multiple recipients would be huge for me! How in the world could apple overlook this?

Just send all your contacts a Christmas card with a note inside saying you have an iPhone and won't be SMS'ing them this Christmas ;)

My most wanted features are:

1. MMS - I'd say 99% of UK phones are not configured for email access, mms usage is therefore huge.

2. SMS Improvements - message forwarding, individual message deletion, horizontal screen support.

3. Call timers and message counters.

4. Bluetooth file transfer for contacts and images.

Those four areas have to be at the top of of Apples list in my mind.

I agree, although I have heard many clamoring for #2 more than the others... so to shuffle it up abit, I would prefer - in order from most wanted (top priority to lower):
1 - SMS Improvements & Enhancements + COPY & PASTE!!
2 - Bluetooth transfers, etc...
3 - Timers & Counters
4 - MMS

Then I would also add: enable video & digital zoom, Flash & hi-res cam (for rev. b), etc... GET IT APPLE!! The more the better!

Yeah. I got 4 picture messages today. And I was at a Grizzlies game and needed to send someone a picture. So MMS is make or break for a lot people.

Plus, SMS forwarding is important. My 3 year old GPRS phone can do this.. :(

...and now you know why Apple wanted to break out of carrier based solutions ! You ever wonder why its so hard to use email on phones ? The carrier prefers you to use MMS as = more revenue.... if people started using free email to send pictures then they'd get nothing for it... just the data plan...... it will happen soon..... trust me...... nano phone will do that....

Huh? Do you know something we don't? Last I heard iphone was locked to a single carrier... and that seems to be apple policy. Apple are *heavily* into 'carrier based solutions'.

And phones aren't designed by carriers, they're designed by phone manufacturers - nokia, motorola etc. the responsibility for the sucky email is 100% on them not the carriers. If carriers designed phones do you *really* think that phones would have VOIP built in? Wifi? Hell no.. they'd want to lock you to their data and voice plans.

btw. if everyone started using email (unlikely, I think) then carriers would simply charge per email. It's not hard to setup.
