"Owners of iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac, or Apple TV products may obtain service and parts from Apple service providers, including Apple Store locations and Independent Repair Providers, for a minimum of 5 years from when Apple last distributed the product for sale.

Service and parts may be obtained for longer, as required by law or for up to 7 years, subject to parts availability. Additionally, Mac laptops may be eligible for an extended battery-only repair period for up to 10 years from when the product was last distributed for sale, subject to parts availability."

MacBook 12" was discontinued in July 2019, the 9 (https://www.macrumors.com/2019/07/09/apple-discontinues-12-inch-macbook/), so until July 2024, the 9, it would not be discontinued. That's , folks.
This is specific to the 2015 model, which was sold until April 2016 and hasn’t been sold for 7 years now. The 2016 and 2017 models are still eligible for repairs in the Apple Store.

Gave my mom my old 2015 retina MacBook a few years ago and now it needs a new battery, guess that's not happening now. Luckily I just put one in my 2015 MBP not too long ago, maybe I'll give her that one since I don't use it much anymore...

Even still, for all the faults the 12" MacBook may have had it was a truly innovative device. Really small, lightweight, ultra thin and I believe it was the first fanless Mac? Yeah the keyboard wasn't the greatest (didn't bother me too much) and the processor was a bit of an Achilles heel but it was a darn cool computer when it came out which is why I chose it over the 13" MBP at the time.

Oddly enough, that form factor could work pretty nicely with an M1 chip as a cheap-ish entry level MacBook below the Air which could move the Air upmarket now that it has 13" and 15" sizes available.

Still using one and for my current usage, its still the best machine Apple ever made. I have had the big heavy laptops that do it all, but if all one needs is a light travel laptop (which is not a main device) then its a great machine. I use an ipad and a desktop most of the time, the Macbook fills a niche in what I need. Wish they would give us back the option of an ultraportable, not just more and more plus sized devices.

I still have mine. Really liked it. The 256gb was a limiting factor from the get-go but it was the 8gb ram that was quickly outclassed by OS updates and other app updates. TDAmeritrade's Thinkorswim software really grinds it down lol.

Great battery life (still) and iPad-ish sized (a bit wider) and lightweight.

Basically an iPad with the superior Mac OS and an attached keyboard lol

Ah, the single port MacBook. What a spiteful, I mean "brave", decision that was.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the device that made Apple rethink their partnership with Intel and move forward with their own ARM chip.

So where are all those haters when it was originally launched? Hopefully, they’re not the same people here loving it today.
Loved the form factor, I think most folk did. The engineering that went into designing the chassis making that absolutely tiny and fanless logicboard was incredible and should live on as an Apple Silicon variation.

The overall lackluster performance of "Core M", keyboards and single dual purpose USB-C port (before it had really taken off) made it suck for the majority out of the gate creating alot of naysayers (myself included).

The formfactor was simply too far ahead of the technology at the time.

Bring it back.

Core M was just part of the Apple discontent with Intel's product line. Of course this was also the Jonny Ive era, the dongle was perfect for this MB form factor. Just not the MacBook Pro line.

Ventura on this Macbook is horrible. So slow it doesnt worth it

It's fine with Xcode and a few apps. 8GB RAM is also a major bottleneck.

I have 3 of these, and they're still unbeatable - in terms of size, weight and functionality for it's intended use.

The closest I can find is an 11 inch Ipad Pro + Brydge, very close in size and weight but without OS X which is a dealbreaker, and not nearly as elegant in form.
