It sucks that the iPad base version isn’t getting any more updates but it hasn’t for a long time. On the Mac it’s a lot easier as you can find the original version floating around the web and just install it.

It would have been a nice gesture from Apple if they made the base version open source.

I don’t understand, they’re killing the iOS app because they announced an iPadOS one? I use this app almost daily on my iPhone…

Welp, any alternatives that are not subscription based?
Same here! Pixelmator for iPhone is something I use at least weekly. I know it will continue to work, but obviously some iOS update will mess it up in the future. I will be searching for another layer focused editing tool, but they are scarce…

Thye already killed the Mac app. What I miss about Pixelmator on the Mac, is the Automator Plugins, they are gone in the Po version.
Doesn’t Pro have some Automator functions? It also supports AppleScript and Shortcuts extensively. You should be able to do anything with those you did/do with Automator and the old Pixelmator.

Edit: Yes, I see about 9 built-in Automator functions for Pixelmator Pro.

Here is a brief intro to AppleScript documentation and Pixelmator Pro: https://support.pixelmator.com/faq-...ced-automation-and-scripting-with-applescript

It looks like you can script almost anything you'd want to automate.

As for Shortcuts, it looks like there are about 30 Pixelmator Pro functions you can use with a shortcut.

Is there something specific you're wanting to automate/script in Pixelmator Pro?

Mo'fo's purposely gimping APP1 to not receive updates. Many of these have unexplained static in one of the ears when ANC is activated. Had a 'genius' open them up in the back and tested them on his iPad in front of me for a good 30 minutes. He acknowledged that it seemed there was no water/drop damage and such and that the left ear indeed has static. He did stick to his script though and say there was nothing eh can do for me and offered to show me the new APP3. So nice of them.

Worst thing that can happen to a great app is being bought by Apple.
The Pixelmator team had already moved on from Pixelmator a couple years before Apple bought them. Pixelmator Pro and Photomator were the replacements and were the only apps/applications the Pixelmator team was working on. Pixelmator only received minor updates over the past few years -- minor bugs/security patches. As I wrote in another comment, it was effectively a "zombie" app since 2023.

I'm not sure how Apple is destroying something that was already dead.

Wrong thread (this one is about Pixelmator) but as a fellow APP1 user with static and clacking issues, I feel your pain.

We are talking about a what if situation, hard to say if it was abandoned or on hold, what would have happened if Apple never bought them out?

But, fact remains ... the cover flow, Siri itself was pretty much abandoned after purchase and can do little more than could back then... Just to name a few out of my head.
Cue, Chomp,Topsy

So my statement stand, the worst thing that could happen to an app for apple devices, it's being bought by Apple itself.

That's sad, confusing, and disappointing. Why? And if they're discontinuing it, they should make the code open source. That's just common sense

There’s Canva now. They just went free for life with a subscription tier only for AI goodies if you’re into AI slop. But even with the free version you get photo editing, vector illustration and even some desktop publishing.

Even better, Canva released Affinity as a free app. It's not perfect and has some annoying small glitches but it's very powerful and I use it a lot

Its interesting given Apple had an outstanding photo editing app called Aperture. They canned the product I have to think a result of lack of sales and Apple now is going to reinvent the wheel so to speak! A subscription based app is not a good look for Apple, its more of a money grab IMO. Time will tell if they get enough people supporting a sub based app.
It was one of the most popular apps on the Mac App Store, the entire time it was alive. It didn't have to do with popularity and therefore money. They even built and was almost ready to release v4 but didn't ship it and killed the product because Apple didn't find it exciting enough etc. whatever. So the same guy who was the lead developer of Aperture started Gentlemen Coders. He built RAW Power and now Nitro by himself.

Check procreate pocket, I know it’s more digital art focused rather than photo editing, but it has the basic stuff: layers, good selection tools, brightness/contrast, levels, hue and saturation. So it does the job for me sometimes. What I like about Pixelmator though are the saturation/desaturation and brightness brushes as well as their liquify tool.

Thanks for the suggestion, didn’t know it was that full of features! I have Procreate on iPad but never tried it on iPhone as I was satisfied with Pixelmator, this is a good time to start.

Thank you, I'll check that out. I've never written scripts that's why I love Automator.

I think between Shortcuts and Scripts, you can do whatever you might want to do. Maybe start with Shortcuts to cut down on the scripting. LLMs like ChatGPT and Gemini will help a lot in getting things working, if you don’t want to figure it out yourself.

Photomator isn't free, it requires a subscription.

There’s a lifetime purchase option too!
Been using it for years but quite unsure what will happen to it now. Integrated in Photos - I’m OK with that but please don’t kill it!!
I think Apple made it free for everyone recently? Or it’s a bug. I never paid for it but I re-downloaded this week and I get a message under the license menu in settings of thanks for being an early supporter and enjoy it for free for iPhone and iPad.
