Well that' ****. I guess that means my next desktop will be a Mac mini M2 and a Third Party Monitor. Yep because of trying to protect sales of the Studio Display ( $2499 AUD ) Apple won't get as much money from my next upgrade. I'll probably pick up a Samsung M8 Display to go with it.

My next PC won't be an AIO machine, but it won't be an overpriced mini or Studio machine either.
If that's the case an iMac would have been a really bad decision as they have the worst price performance ratio. The only mac that interests me is the MBA but supporting only one external display kills it for me.

Just priced it out. The last 27" iMac, in 2020, was $2299 for the high end i7 (not i9) version, 8 GB (user-upgradeable) ram, and 500 GB Storage. Let's say upgrading to 32 GB of Ram cost, what, $100? So that's $2399 for a pretty decent design workhorse. I'd go for more storage but I don't know what apple would have charged so let's keep it at 500 GB for comparison’s stake.

Closest config to this now would be the 10 core M2 Pro Mac Mini, with 32 GB of ram and a 500 GB SSD. Got to add the Studio Display, but we won't go for the fancy nano-glass or fancier stand. And then we’ve got to add the keyboard and mouse you would've gotten with the iMac.

That comes to $3800.00 for what would again be a pretty decent design workhorse, though nowhere near a system you would brag about... basically middle of the road at best but with a great display.

Basically my machine. Love it. Great display. This is actually my third 27" iMac and I remember when the first gen came out 27" didn't really exist in nature much, and we were all amazed that Apple offered such a large monitor + Mac at the price. I'm not going back. I don't want a two box solution on my office desk. 27+ AIO or out.

Then my 2012 27" will be my last iMac, and this M1 MacBook Pro will be my last Mac. It has had too many issues and repairs for a new "Pro" computer to justify considering a MacBook as a replacement. I will not buy a Mac mini and their overpriced display.

I think it's fair to say an updated 27 inch iMac was never going to happen with the introduction of the Studio Display and matching Mac Studio.
The much rumored 30-32 inch 6k iMacPro holds out some hope for AIO users yearning for something larger than the 24 inch iMac. But judging from recent pricing points Apple is taking, there will be a lot of "WTF" reactions if it is indeed actually released. Times have changed.

Solid choice, I think. I got the M2 Mini a couple of months ago, and planned to get the M8 display when it went on sale. It would replace my ancient Apple Cinema Display HD (the 30" model). But the ACD turns out to be fine for my needs and the Mini has been flawless.

I think the M3 iMac will make a fine computer for many. I also think those commenters criticizing it here underestimate, as they often do, how little non-techies care about speeds and feeds. Many of them would be unable to tell you the difference between Intel and Apple CPUs, but they certainly could tell you which color they prefer--and that's ok. The 24" iMac is an appliance computer now, and I think it'll stay one. We know Apple has no plans to reduce a 27", and I wouldn't hold out any hope for a surprise announcement of a 30/32" either.

A $2000 M3 Max Studio (Making a guess this will be the price) will have the performance of the $4000 M2 Ultra and the $2000 M2 Max has the performance of the $4000 M1 Ultra. Imagine if Apple released a $7000 30" iMac Studio M1 Ultra iMac for it to be destroyed 2-3 years later by a $2000 M3 Max Mac Studio. AIO computers are not for pro's or at least not for pros that have brains. The same goes for people that future proof, if you bought the base model studio each you for 3 years, you would still have way ahead. Buy what you NEED and not what you want unless you don't mind wasting money.

LOL! You can express your opinion all you want. I just stated a fact that is opposite your (false) opinion.

You stated "Why remove a product that was revenue positive?" doesn't sound like an opinion. You seem sure.
Ignored.

I was starting to seriously consider a Mac Studio Max and Studio display, but the M3 iMac looks to have sufficient performance chops for my needs and be cheaper than Mac Studio and Studio Display.

I’m not disappointed there is no 27in. iMac available given that a 24in. will give me 20 percent more screen area than my current 21.5.

Well they didn't deny the 32"

I mean, was the iMac Pro a flop?

The 24" is already amazing.

I think the real issue here is cost. Sticking the guts of a Mac Mini Pro or Mac Studio into a large 6K display would result in a rather pricey piece of hardware, pricier than enough people would be willing to pay.

For many people, Windows 11 is a perfectly acceptable substitute.

Don't wait. Sell the Macs while their value is still good and buy a custom PC with the proceeds.

Personally, I'm too entrenched in the Mac ecosystem and love macOS, iOS, my MBA M2 and my iPad Pro a bit too much, but if you're not like me you should pull the trigger now, especially with Black Friday coming around the corner.

Never been a better time to be a PC user & gamer.

A $2000 M3 Max Studio (Making a guess this will be the price)
Not sure that’s a fair assumption, given that Apple has created a bigger gap between the performance of the Pro and the Max. Which I don’t have a real problem with actually, the M3 Max looks like a huge leap. The Pro chip used to be the bargain and I guess the Max used to be the “well if you really need a lot of GPU” option (at least in the M1). Now the Pro is just the “better” of a well-differentiated good-better-best lineup.

At this point few people really need the power of the Max line, so Apple can make them pay for it.

So I bet the M3 Max studio starts at $2500. The M2 Max studio is just too good a deal, really, to expect from Apple 😂

Ever since they got rid of target display mode, the iMac has been an iffy proposition in my opinion.

I understand the hatred of cable clutter that you get with the desktop and separate monitor.

Computers are getting so expensive now, that it is imo just a better proposition to have the display separate from the computer. Hopefully with Apple Silicon, we see a solid 8 to 10 years of security updates, to keep the e-waste down.

kinda surprises me they're being this direct about it, but I guess they have to since they're the ones that end up catching bad rep because of promises they never made that come from "leakers" on twitter/youtube

I think they’re trying to tide/bait/entice us into buying Macintoshes this holiday season since sales were down the last quarter?! Many people were holding out for a larger updated iMac.

I'm thinking of getting the BenQ PD3220U but my concern is about the 250 nits brightness. I believe iMac goes to 500 nits.

I have this with my 2018 mini. Extremely happy with the setup. Perhaps if you have a ton of ambient light in your office the BENQ may not work as well, that is just a guess on my part, I have an "average" lit room.

I’m probably an outlier but I prefer the look of the iMac over the studio display. I like the white bezels and the slimness of the display. I’ve always enjoyed working on Macs cos they are so beautiful to look at but I’m just not feeling the studio display. And third party monitors look even worse in my regard :(
It might take a while to find one for the picky consumer, but there are even some with white bezels out there.

A monitor with a solid wide base and it's a nice placeholder for the mac mini, organize cables nicely and you are very close to the iMac in terms of overall footprint.

Sure it won't be as thin or pretty, but it's a much better value proposition for the consumer.

Yeah it does. Considerably so.
Really? I've never been able to find reliable (cited) figures. Google's AI tells me that the desktop sales account for only 23% of all Macs sold last year.

The not necessarily reliable Marc Ellis wrote in January of this year:

Bad news for the Mac mini and Mac Studio?

Let’s turn our attention to the bottom of the table for a moment, where we discover that the Mac mini and Mac Studio grab just 1% of the Mac market share each.

Although 13% might not sound like a huge share of Mac units, it is rather pleasing to see that number against the iMac.

So last January, Ellis claims that iMacs outsell the Minis by at least 13x.

Citing the same data originators, 9to5 also wrote in January:

For desktop Macs, iMac makes up 50% of sales while somewhat surprisingly, Mac Pro isn’t far behind at 43%.

Interestingly, Mac mini and Mac Studio are a tiny sliver of Mac desktop sales at 4% each and a minuscule piece of the big picture with just 1% each of total Mac sales.

27" will not be happening. But will not surprised to see a 32" iMac in the future
LOL. Why can people not let go? IT'S. NOT. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.

Anyone with half a brain knew the iMac's future was going to be limited to the consumer-level iMac the moment Apple introduced the M1 iMac with no mention of the larger size or more powerful version.

There was never going to be another iMac Pro (Apple Silicon or otherwise), and yes, a larger screen iMac would be nice but that's not in their plans either. This was made abundantly clear when they introduced the Studio Mac and the Studio Display.

I said all of this years ago. I said it in almost all the "Gurman reports larger iMac, iMac Pro in the works" threads. I'm actually happy that Apple finally saw the benefit of saying what many of us had already figured out - even if they only did it to goose sales a bit.
