If you need a big screen setup waiting for Apple to deliver it as an AIO could be a very long wait. On the other if you can tolerate Windows then I believe HP, Lenovo and Asus each have a 27in AIO desktop available.
I don’t know about the others but the HP 27” is only 1920 by 1080 pixels.

Shouldn't get trapped on just 27"

Lenovo AIO Yoga ( 4K ) and HP Envy (5K) on this list.

Kind of surprising that AMD doesn't make a bigger 'push' here where their SoCs are typically a better thermal fit to the generic AIO PC chassis.

To a substantive degree the PC AIO tend to trail behind on the mature , 'last gen' , SoC/CPU update cycles. Laptops and more boxy systems get the latest gen and then after some lengthy trickle down it goes to the AIO. That's a major contributing factor to why see prevasive 1080P panels there. The dynamics look a lot like the $200-500 mainstream laptop market where whole system tends to have pennies pinched all around.

Which is a major contributor to why Apple probably see no substantive threat here. There is nothing like Intel's EVO (laptops) or any motivated Surface move here to bring a larger batch of 'better quality' AIOs to market.

I think the age of the Apple AIO is over. I think it worked better when the iMac was marketed as the "family computer" or for beginners. That's why the entry-level 24" iMac still exists, because it can still appeal to that market (obviously it can be more than that, but it is primarily aimed at the entry-level market). But it's just not justifiable for Apple to still offer an AIO when they now offer a discrete monitor and computer. The Studio isn't a "stop gap"; it's the new form factor for Apple's mid-tier desktop. At this point I'm not going to hope for an AIO anymore. I just want to see more monitor options from Apple, including mini-LED and ProMotion.

New theory: LG announced a new roadmap earlier this year for 5K and 6K panels. Is it possible that Apple has been waiting on a "worthy" screen tech for a larger iMac? 27 or 31.5-32 with a higher contrast ratio?
