MacStories reports that Apple retail stores are holding all-hands employee meetings on Sunday, May 22nd. While it's not unusual for Apple to hold such meetings, the early timing of the meeting seems strange.
While there had previously been some speculation about some sort of 10th anniversary Apple retail event, we'd heard that this may simply be due to training.

Boy Genius Report also details some of the various measures:

If this is legit, the 22nd should be interesting. Let the speculation begin.

Standard team meeting + Family House/FOH change. Happens usually before Summer and before Back to School.

    Something big is upon us...

...now seriously, visual in-store change probably. No new products. I mean, WWDC is around the corner, wouldn't make sense.

    MobileMe revamp?

Overnight Employees to change store signage, and early morning to inform employees of the changes to features / pricing models before open?

Weird that no keynote presentation where Jobs says "Boom"

Wouldn't it be something if this was for the release of Lion, I know they wouldn't, but I'd like to imagine

Probably correct, but that's a lot of training info to download and a lot of hardware
    for a standard spring cleaning...

Isn't Lion supposed to be released here pretty soon? Or is that later this year?

I'm thinking (read hoping) that this could be Mobile Me revamp or even better, something related to Final Cut Pro X.

"Store meetings at 7AM Sunday across United States. Unusual time. Expecting some announcement. All stores, brand-wide US. Don't know about other countries."

7 AM meetings are not unusual at all. Just depends on when the store decides to hold the meeting. Its either before or after work.

Yes clearly this is the super secret annual back to school information. Even though school is not even out yet.

May 22nd? They probably just want to figure out who's missing after the Rapture the day before.

So, since all the good employees were taken up on the 21st I think this meeting is to tell the people who are left that they are getting a pay cut for 180 days or so.

A black curtain blocking the view of people walking by, a required NDA for employees, and mysterious hardware under lock and key.

I have no idea what this could be, but that doesn't sound like a routine preparation for a back to school event or even the launch of the macbook air--unless they've changed it in a significant way maybe.

    They could be celebrating...

...the fact that the world will not have come to an end the day before, as some have predicted it will.:)
