Still experiencing two issues introduced in beta6/7 on M1:

  • Cannot add a card in Apple Pay/Wallet.
  • Cannot disable the startup chime either via Settings (the setting shows as enabled each time I exit and re-enter the Sound pane in System Preferences) or nvram StartupMute=%01 (the setting is kept but the chime still plays).
Posting here so maybe others can confirm. (MBA M1).

They didn't yet fix the issues with widescreens on M1 macs and maybe won't fix them until release. Also Bluetooth is still jittery with Logi MX Master 3 - this is identical to the latest stable release on Intel Macs (at least my 2017 iMac) so nothing too special here.

They seem to have a hard time getting those UI scaling issues fixed. They recognized them publicly by the end of last year and 2 beta versions ago reported back on feedback tickets that it might be fixed, but nothing happened. Hopefully they'll get better fixing bugs again.

I was going to ask when Apple was about to release beta 8 just as a macabre joke this morning. Oh well. No point in the Onion when reality is already there.

How many more betas?

Hopefully there's some work being done under the hood with eGPU support. Been having constant kernel panics when ejecting my eGPU since Big Sur.

Hopefully 11.3 will fix broken palm rejection, memory management, slow disk I/O, whatever is causing devices to burn out and kernel panic, fingerprint/trackpad gestures from working at login screen and numerous other issues on M1.

What Apple should be fixing is the sub-optimal thunderbolt speeds for ssds and mvne drives on M1 macs. I'm still only seeing about 900m/s write speeds.

I predict by the end of this SUMMER most software will be updated as far as it can go before we start to see CLOUD based or web browser based software running in the CLOUD.

I mean REALLY. for the last YEAR we have seen A software update Frenzy.

At some point it has to slow down.

Release Candidate will be released after the next week's event. Since RC always contains information for the final product unlike beta releases, they cannot release before they announce the products. This is not the case for iPhone, iPad or Macs where they have their own builds, but this applies for accessory products like AirTags or AirPods.

My guess would be RC will be released on April, 20th, and final release on April 22nd or April 27th.
We’ll see. Just a few more days...

Yeah this is why I'm debating just not installing this update. My Mac has been rock solid stable.

Might just ride 20E5229a all the way through to the public release at this point. Also I hate having to restart and lose my dozens of open terminal windows. :)
FYI - in case you are tempted it was a skinny update - 2.9G download

Really hoping for some fixes to the 16" MBP -- specifically how hot it runs when connected to a 4K display and some fixes to USB-C connections. Getting tired of unplugging and plugging back in my USB hub so that my mouse and keyboard work every time I boot or wake from sleep.
Sadly that won't happen. One reason why I sold my 16". But now with the M1 MBP, I'd have to buy a new monitor because HiDPI below 4K can't still be emulated. Thx Tim Apple !!!

That’s so poor that the MX mouse still has input lag, what a waste of money.

  • Sorry dont use it
  • Yes, startup chime toggle reverts to previous setting after exiting the sound preferences. In my case, it was muted
