Here’s waiting for next year’s spit and polish.
It is quite likely that next year will be more focused on macOS, at least in the polish and attention to it. IIRC next year is the first macOS exclusive for Apple Silicon machines so it’s expected that they will get rid of a lot of old Intel code and will optimize the system for the M1-M6 family of chips.

Aside from a few tweaks to the UI here and there, the past 5 or so betas have not felt any different whatsoever. Not a single bug I've been tracking has been fixed. More keep piling up.

If they need more time with AI so they make Liquid Glass but now need more time with that too? How many years to just redo a ****ing UI that's literally designed to be the exact same on almost every one of their devices???

What even is this timeline?!

So it's safe to say they have like 9 designers left. 6 of which appear to be interns.

Yeah, the moment I heard a new UI redesign was coming, in the middle of the Siri disaster, I feared this could end up happening.

If they are so busy with their LLM and the new Siri (that I’m quite sure that, if it runs locally, will probably be awesome), a complete redesign right now is bad timing. But… yeah I guess they needed to make announce something new and shiny to refocus the attention.

That’s my guess too.

I actually really like the new features of Tahoe:

- New Control Centre is much better + customisable
- New options to control the icons / apps in the menu bar
- New Spotlight Search with clipboard manager and integrated Actions
- Much better tagging for folders in Finder, including with custom colours + ability to add glyphs / emoji
- I'm happy about the death of LaunchPad - it either needed to be completely revised or eliminated - although the new Apps view need to be customisable, e.g. with 'pinned' apps at the top, custom folders / groupings of apps

... but there are still too many UI and other bugs / glitches remaining in Tahoe and still, obvious 'low hanging fruit' for macOS features that should have been dealt with years ago, e.g:

- the ability to change the volume level of an HDMI audio output from the Mac (I have SoundSource installed solely for this feature). Windows and Linux have been able to do this for years.

- the ability to rename Desktop spaces (instead of just 'Desktop 1', 'Desktop 2').

Just imagine if it wasn't a closed hardware ecosystem and more companies would release their own motherboards, video cards, memory, ssd, etc.

Screw it, should I just install it? Is it stable enough for daily use?
I've been using it since beta 2 or 3. I just installed 8 and it seems fairly stable. I didn't have any huge issues with 7 though either so I wouldn't be surprised if this release addresses some general UI inconsistencies with Liquid Glass and stuff like that. But I wouldn't be surprised if we get an RC in like a week so maybe just wait for that.

Still not fixed Core Audio Integer Mode forcing 32 bit float even if the DAC doesn't support it and wants 16 or 24 bit integer. Exclusive audio was one of the main reasons I am dailying a mac instead of a windows pc, and now that feature is partially broken.
Yeah, putting betas on a daily driver is always a clever idea.

I tested the public beta version. OMG. I use the dark theme, liquid design is terrible, it's similar to vista. Go back to the past. In light mode it's ok. In dark mode it's unusable and disgusting. I had to downgrade to sequoia OS. I'll skip Tahoe os26, I have to wait for the next normal OS 27.

Beta 7 started an annoying issue where when I switch a tab I get a blank screen switching back to the tab and it takes a minute to refresh. Hope this is fixed.

I think MacOS Tahoe looks so childish with all those rounded corners.
That's honestly my only complaint. It makes sense for iOS and iPad OS but not macOS. If there was an option to adjust window control sizes and corner radius, that would solve the annoyance for me. The obnoxious rounded corners is the only feedback I've given Apple in years on beta versions regarding appearance.

The other issue with the larger rounded corners and larger window controls is they take up more space than previous versions. I'm using a Mac mini with a 27inch screen, but the 13 inch MacBook users will be even more annoyed.

Legibility of the menu text is much better now compared to how horrible it was when the interface was its original glass style. They really reversed course on that as it was painful to read for long periods with all that see-through stuff. The part that is still bad is how white the interface is now; the gray was better on the eyes. Dark mode is way too dark; they need an even gray tone. The previous os already came with that, and I'll be sticking with that for as long as possible. Transitioning apps to the new look is not straightforward. Do it wrong, and your interface just looks like the older os style. The depth is less than with the previous os, they should emphasize shadows more. Hazeover still is great to use for that. Forcing all icons to use a squircle is annoying. Forcing all menus to have icons is annoying. There was a time when the OS got out of the way, but these newer ones want to be all up in your business, like it or not. If it was a noticeable improvement, that would be great, but I bet this thing will get another visual overhaul before they replace it, and the next OS will keep getting overhauled once they hear enough negative feedback. They are really tweaking this thing to be used with fingers someday.

Goodness. With all the less-than-positive comments I’m seeing written here (and on other sites) about Liquid Glass, this is shaping up to be the year I settle back and get to appreciate Sequoia even more. And ditto for the OS on my phone and iPad. (I’ve always preferred the woods over the lake anyway.)
