Apple today seeded the fifth beta of an upcoming macOS Sierra update to developers and public beta testers, just over one week after seeding the fourth beta and a month after releasing the new macOS Sierra operating system to the public.

macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 5 can be downloaded from the Apple Developer Center or through the Software update mechanism in the Mac App Store for those who already have an earlier 10.12.1 beta installed.

macOS Sierra 10.12.1 appears to focus on bug fixes and under-the-hood performance improvements to address issues that have been found since the operating system's release, and it's also likely adding features designed for next-generation MacBook Pro models set to be released later this year.

Few outward-facing changes were discovered in the first four betas, but it 10.12.1 does include Photos support for the new iPhone 7 Plus Portrait feature introduced with iOS 10.1. New features discovered in the fifth 10.12.1 beta will be listed below.

macOS Sierra is a significant update that brings features like Siri support, a new storage optimization option, cross device copy paste, auto unlocking with the Apple Watch, and more. For full details on macOS Sierra, make sure to check out our roundup.

Don't even give them the option. Change that to next week.

Can anyone clarify exactly what kind of support is required for the macOS Photos app to receive iOS depth effect photos? I would assume that this effect is achieved entirely on the phone itself, unless we are talking RAW-level support?

Does it fix the bug not allowing to perform an update over the Apple Remote Desktop (showing distorted / black screen when no motitor is connected to the Mac being updated)?

This used to work without problems, but I guess Apple is rewriting everything into swift and/or some simplifications-prone genius removed an "unnecessary" part of code :-/

I've noticed that both my Seagate external drives randomly ejects itself when the iMac is sleeping. The rest of the externals have no problem. Sometimes it ejects itself while awake. Should I reformat these drives? Disk Utility shows no errors. Perhaps its just the brand Seagate being not such a great brand then?

Hi,
I have a Seagate external Firewire drive as well and the last beta was terrible for ejecting it. A few releases back it was bad as well. Other than the last beta MacOs has been great for this and did not eject it once.

My ipad is not finding the update. I got Beta 4 the other day but it says up to date now. I even restarted it. Did the ipad not get Beta 5?

Does anybody has problems regarding printing, I get the spinner (stalling Apps) when trying to do anything printing related, for instance, adding a printer in System Preferences-App not responding, printing in Safari-App not responding, this happens to all printing related jobs.
I know there is a way to reset the printing in System Preferences (Option click in white space) but can't do that since if I click on Printers it will also stall System Preferences.
Is there a terminal command to reset printing?
There seem to be more problems here, in Textedit I get the spinner too many times.

Update: It now works on my 2012 MacMini, but not my 2012 MacbookPro yet.

Aahh...I thought that was just me. identical setup, same problem. DellP2415Q and closed rMBP.

No luck with this beta either... had to open the screen up and force it to shut down with the power button then when turned back on both screens lit up with the backlight but nothing displayed, until I closed the rMBP and then turned off the Dell and back on then it finally came up.
