Apple today seeded the fifth beta of the upcoming macOS Sierra 10.12.2 update to developers and public beta testers, one week after releasing the fourth 10.12.2 beta and more than a month after the public release of macOS 10.12.1.

The fifth beta of macOS Sierra 10.12.2 is available for download through the Apple Developer Center or through the software update mechanism in the Mac App Store.

macOS Sierra 10.12.2 includes new emoji, introducing Unicode 9 characters like clown face, selfie, face palm, fox face, owl, shark, butterfly, avocado, bacon, and more, plus many profession emoji are available in both male and female genders.

Apple has also updated the artwork on many existing emoji, adding detail and design elements to make them look less cartoonish and more realistic. New wallpapers are also included in macOS Sierra 10.12.2, introducing the color explosion options that have been used in iPhone marketing materials.

There are few other outward-facing changes aside from the addition of new emoji and wallpapers, but the 10.12.2 update also likely includes many bug fixes and performance enhancements to address issues that have surfaced since the release of macOS Sierra 10.12.1.

Available since September, macOS Sierra is the latest Mac operating system. It includes Siri support, Apple Pay for the web, Universal Clipboard, Apple Watch auto unlocking, improved iCloud Drive integration, Picture-in-Picture multitasking, and dozens of smaller features that can be found in our macOS Sierra roundup.

Oh yes! Let's give us Emoji Updates for our new MacBooks. Apple has worked hard and several years on this to deliver the new touch bar experience of emojis!

Seriously: Is Apple designing their hard- and software for kids these days?

Recent 10.12.2 betas seem to be using a lot more RAM than before. Hopefully this beta fixes the memory leak issues.

Build number is 16C60b

EDIT: Ah. MacBird beat me to it.

Oh, the beloved memory leaks. We had that once in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. It seems like Apple is fixing bugs that were once fixed. History is repeating. But they have this memory compression feature now - that costs you only some performance.

I'd like to think they're cleaning up bugs and making the OS or efficient. But when all that's mentioned is the emoji's it almost feels like Apple is mocking people who actually want to use their macs for heavy processing tasks (you know ... 'pro' stuff).
I've been running betas for years, and I don't remember Apple ever going into specifics about bug fixes or optimizations.

If it's all about emoji...then you know Apple is trolling us.

Anyone know if this fixes any real bugs? If it's just emojis & wallpaper, why not do "Emoji update 2016-1" or something instead of a .1 update? Oh wait, I'm sorry. They can't do that. That makes way too much sense!

I would love to see that... MacOS Emoji Update 1 , MacOS Emoji Update 2 , MacOS Emoji Update 3 , ...
But for real: Apple doesn't put real engineering power into MacOS anymore - all what they do is to copy iOS features into MacOS.

Well they're doing a poor job of whatever they're doing, too much focus on silliness (emojis, thinness, and other gimics) for to make a good solid machine for the working professionals, but not enough focus on graphics performance for the rising generation of kids who "need" a machine capable of AAA games. What they then have is a bloggers computer, ok at everything, fantastic at nothing. Perfect for blogging, amateur photography, and videography, but not something to rely on for an income. If I could make a Hackbook out of a DELL XPS 15 I would, but I can't (not well anyways) so for now I'll just stick to my 2013 rMBP
