Do any adults actually use emojis? I for one, have never used one ever. Seems like every update is the same thing.... MORE EMOJIS!!!!! Enough already.

I consider myself an adult at 46 but yes, I do use emojis from time to time. I still hoped the TB would be more than emoji only..

Am holding off buying coz I don't have to and what I read on this forum, emojis isn't my biggest concern...

I am assuming that the biggest changes would be listed first. And this is what was given in the article:

"macOS Sierra 10.12.2 includes new emoji, introducing Unicode 9 characters like clown face, selfie, face palm, fox face, owl, shark, butterfly, avocado, bacon, and more, plus many profession emoji are available in both male and female genders.

Apple has also updated the artwork on many existing emoji, adding detail and design elements to make them look less cartoonish and more realistic."

If battery life was increased by 25% or some new useful feature to Mail was made, I would think that would come before emoji. But I am very glad now there male and female genders and a fox face. This will certainly make the operating system much more useful!

Anyone know if this fixes any real bugs? If it's just emojis & wallpaper, why not do "Emoji update 2016-1" or something instead of a .1 update? Oh wait, I'm sorry. They can't do that. That makes way too much sense!

Do you seriously think the 10.12.2 updates only consists of changes to emojis? o_O;)

Of course there will be other changes and bug fixes. Why Apple won't list them in more detail, I don't know. But I'm quite sure (even if I haven't tried the 10.12.2 beta) that there for example will be new graphics drivers for the various graphics cards that are in Macs capable of running macOS Sierra, just like there has been for more or less every .x update for OS X throughout the years.

And wait for "courage" comments.

APFS is going to take courage.

They changed it in beta 5

This is what the seed note says about it:

The macOS Sierra 10.12.2 developer beta 5 includes changes to the pre-release version of Apple File System (APFS). If you previously created an APFS formatted volume, please back up all of your data before installing the developer beta and then reformat your data volume using ‘hdutil' in Terminal

I hope that Apple in this version fix the gigantic disaster of communication with external hard drives that freeze my new MBP 2016. ----> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7759950?replyId=31005218
testing this for you, let me know if the test is valid though.
latest beta (5th)
plug mechanical HD to a SATA to USB-C converter and plug in USB-C in the MacBook Pro 2016 15"
doing a brand new time machine backup. (about 180gb to backup).
would that recreate the issue theoretically?

I'd like to think they're cleaning up bugs and making the OS or efficient. But when all that's mentioned is the emoji's it almost feels like Apple is mocking people who actually want to use their macs for heavy processing tasks (you know ... 'pro' stuff).

Yes, let's see just two months ago on Mac OS they gave us things like Universal clipboard, Auto unlock, iCloud sync across multiple devices, Optimized storage, tabs for built in apps, Apple Pay, picture in picture, Siri for the Mac, improved Photos, Messages, and iTunes. And now new insanely fast, more powerful MacBooks with Touchbar focused on pro users. It's pretty clear that Craig Federighi and his software team are just spending their time sitting around laughing at how they love to mock their users. Nothing but emojis from them lately.

As I said earlier in the thread, I've been on the Apple beta train for years, and they've never been too specific about under the hood changes on these things. It usually says something like "various bug fixes and enhancements."

Seriously. The beta is 1.7 GB. That's a whole lot more than just emoji.

It's just that it's the cool thing to do nowadays, to hate on apple, no matter what.

Seriously: Is Apple designing their hard- and software for kids these days?
yes. Was in the apple store and a mom and dad were buying their daughter (12) a new 13" MBP with touch bar because it was "cool". The apple employee was quick to show the emoji keyboard! SMH

I hope there are some fixes for the new macbook pros to help some of these issues..

Wait, this must be wrong. This is only about Apple mocking us with emojis, not bringing out the most advanced, secure FS in the industry.

Apple made it clear as day that APFS is a work in progress, not to be used for anything you don't want to lose.

WARNING: You are using a pre-release version of the Apple File System called
APFS which is meant for evaluation and development purposes only. Files
stored on this volume may not be accessible in future releases of OS X.

You should back up all of your data before using APFS and regularly back up
data while using APFS, including before upgrading to future releases of OS X.

Can anybody tell me if their battery time gets worse on this beta release. I have a new 13" TB MacBook pro and usually always download the latest Dev builds. However, beta 4 last week totally tanked my battery time, again. (Doing a Time Machine Restore when I bought it did the same thing.) Using Coconut battery I was using an average or 7-8 watts all the time even with all apps closed, one tic on the brightness and both WIFI and BT antennas turned off. Not good. I was getting about 4 hours of battery life using only Safari with two tabs. As I had to do after the intial Time Machine restore try, I backed up docs and data to USB and did a Recovery Boot, formatted the drive and reinstalled the non-Dev build of Sierra from the internet and I'm back to about 8 hours of use with an average wattage usage of 3-5 watts. (Still not great time since it was advertised as 10 hours but better than 4 hours!) So for anyone updating on a new 2016 MacBook Pro, let me know. Thanks!

"How dare that employee show that 12 year old how the Touch Bar works!" "If it's a Pro model, it's meant for real pros, who do powerful things, not some sub-teenage girl!" "Don't they have an iPhone or iPad she could play with?" "I could read her parents' minds and they only wanted to buy her the new Macbook because it was cool. Not OK!"

Shaking your head????

Are you folks intentionally trying to show how pathetic you can sound and how you've jumped the shark with your hatred of Apple?

Apple recommend backing up when installing any beta. I extend this much further and say you should backup before installing ANYTHING!

Anyway, this is particularly true this time because apple have changed apfs this time.

Not sure if all developers know about this, hence why I posted the warning.

The warning has also been posted in apple's developer forums.

This update appears to resolve the battery issues described in prior article for me (4-5 hrs under NO load in foreground or background and hot underside). Was getting really frustrated yesterday when I burned through 100% in 3 hours under heavy load. Have been using now for light browsing for 40 minutes and it hasn't even dropped from 100%, estimate ~8.5 hours and the computer is finally cool to the touch under light load.

Mine literally doubled. Was getting like 4 hours on the last seed and now getting 8.5-9ish

Show me exactly where it says emoji are the only thing in the update.

Read the release notes, makes it very clear that it's main features are emojis and wallpapers .......but I'm sure if some minor bugs get fixed people will claim it's a major bug fix release , though the release notes clearly reference emoji and wallpapers .

Maybe those additional bug fixes only fix
Emoji bugs :p

Look up some of the benchmarking being done. These arent much faster than the year-and-a-half old models and in some cases slower. Also theres users reporting pretty severe thermal throttling.

Glad you have these delusions and can appreciate your new laptop, but theres more than a few people (as you know) who can see past the 'form' and realize the function of these machines was not worth the year and a half wait.

It would be one thing if this was one of several of their computer models apple just updated, but this is the only so-called 'performance' machine theyve updated, and its not very impressive.

The rest of their computer lineup continues to rot away.

make fun of windows all we want, but at least you could push a windows machine to its limits and it would still work. I've jumped ship to apple due to a Microsoft's all computers left behind philosophy. what I've found is Mac OS doesn't like to be pushed.. aka spinning up all cores for serious work. it just seems to rebel and go into the corner and cry. so with this new Sierra update hope for the following... a rotten apple, jug of cider and apple sauce emojis. A screen saver that shows an apple computer putting on a diaper and some new crash icons like a computer sucking its thumb. if you think I'm being cruel, I've had apple senior management tell me that these machines don't like being pushed and they will respond accordingly. sigh... waiting for another Mac OS release... maybe call Mac OS pg-13, complete with a set of big boy pants.

Well they're doing a poor job of whatever they're doing, too much focus on silliness (emojis, thinness, and other gimics) for to make a good solid machine for the working professionals, but not enough focus on graphics performance for the rising generation of kids who "need" a machine capable of AAA games. What they then have is a bloggers computer, ok at everything, fantastic at nothing. Perfect for blogging, amateur photography, and videography, but not something to rely on for an income. If I could make a Hackbook out of a DELL XPS 15 I would, but I can't (not well anyways) so for now I'll just stick to my 2013 rMBP

Apple, PLEASE FIX THE BASICS so that they work consistently. Just one example. My iCloud account is not working AGAIN. Can't log in even from Safari. Can't do business. This is the SECOND such outage in a week.

I have tried to be patient but like many people... it's just NOT working. It just DOESN'T work properly.

Okay gotta go use GOOGLE mail to notify clients and others why I didn't get their messages today. Again.
