Hmm, I literally just downloaded it a minute or two before you posted and it's 'preparing' now.
I was told it was pulled (by someone who monitors the Apple catalogues) and my 10.15.7 system isn't seeing any Big Sur newer than 11.2.3:

But does see these:

You may have got lucky and got it just before it was taken down.

Hopefully it's just temporary anyway. The release notes are still up.

Oh, interesting. Talk about timing. Well, so far it seems to be running fine. Hopefully it continues to do so.

Yeah for me too. I imagine it was just because they put it out slightly early or something, not because the code is bad.

Just annoying because I only installed it on my test system, and now can't do so on my main.

For love of God, please with this new Safari version, hopefully it fixed the random Safari's tabs reloads / crashes !

Wow, could one of these new GPUS be the solution for MBP 5600m users who struggle with Canon R5 and Sony a7siii 4k 422 10bit(h265) decode problems. Would this be the best decode alternative to spending a fortune and losing a ton of value with a m1x purchase? I honestly still don't want to jump on the arm macs, so I hope this is a good solution. I would like to edit with the new h265 10bit cams without dropping res or transcoding on my 5600m.

How can I trust on a software update, when they launch a beta while they haven’t yet launched the users one immediate next? This don’t talk very well about Big Sur 11.3.

Now, what I really want to know regarding Big Sur is if is safe to upgrade a MacBook Air 2017 to Big Sur, or if I rather keep on Catalina. I have read that some users have experienced speed and performance degradation. What do you think?

I have no show-stopper issues with Big Sur on MacBook Air 2017.

What is unclear is how apple will distribute an RC 2 for 11.3 whilst betas for 11.4 are still available.

So if you are on RC 1 will both show up as options, or will apple have to pull 11.4 betas to let the 11.3 RCs show up?

Currently if you have an old system like mojave with active developer account you get safari betas as well as public safari updates as options.

So it could look like this for systems as well.

Whichever way it goes via software update I think it is going to much easier if they just release full installers for both.

Currently there are no full installers for 11.3 RC1 or 11.4 beta 1.

Full installers are better for many reasons, the least of which is the ability to downgrade from for example 11.4 beta 1 to 11.3 RC1 without having to do a complete restore or clean install.

My theory is this is why the 11.4 beta has been pulled. It wasn't meant to go out before 11.3 reached GM.

There was a full installer for 11.4 beta 1 while it was in the catalogue, but now everything to do with 11.4 seems to be gone.

I'm not quite sure why they've not also put 11.3 RC1 back. Maybe that will happen today.

Whilst I agree that pulling 11.4 betas may be a possibility, it is unlikely it would be pulled just to make the 11.3 RCs show up.

In the developer portal they are both there. They could end up both being options in software update, depending on what is already installed.

I think 2 things will happen for RCs and betas depending on what is installed.

Here is my theory:

If you have 11.3 RC1 then subsequent RCs will show up (if there are any) - as well as the current 11.4 beta.

If you have an 11.4 beta, only subsequent 11.4 betas will show up, not the 11.3 RCs.

OK, interesting. You may well be right.

However 11.4 definitely has already been pulled from Software Update, I'm almost sure? At least I can't see it on any machine via Software Update, or via a catalogue search (checked using installinstallmacos.py --seedprogram DeveloperSeed - installinstallmacos.py is from the Munki macadmin-scripts GitHub; i won't link it else my post will be 'in moderation' for ages.)

Maybe there was just a catalogue error or something, and it'll return when Apple wake up. Or they're rejigging things, along the lines of what you said, so both 11.3 RC and 11.4b1 are available.

11.4 has not been pulled, at least from the Developer website. It shows both 11.4 beta and 11.3 RC.

Yeah I just meant it's been pulled from the catalogue / Software Update. It's not possible to do a Software Update right now, you have to get the package direct from the Developer site as you said.
It was never available in Software update so it could not have been pulled. We must download it from developer website using macOSDeveloperBetaAccessUtility. So you're right.
