when the iMac with Fusion Drive will receive Apple File System!! -.-

Apple's track record recently and you're wanting them to rush something as important as a file system? APFS on Fusion Drives will arrive as soon as Apple is damn sure that it works and you're not going to end up losing your data.

I don't think Fusion Drive get's APFS support at all. It can happen, that the comming Macs this or next year won't have any mechanical drives anymore.

  1. A more powerful Mac will deliver better HEVC performance. The playback of 4K HEVC content requires a Mac with a sixth‑generation Intel Core processor or newer.
  2. Amount of disk space saved depends on specific video file and hardware used; actual results may vary.
  3. Planned for spring 2018.
  4. Testing conducted by Apple in August 2017 using ARES-6 1.0.1, Jetstream 1.1, MotionMark 1.0, and Speedometer 1.0 performance benchmarks. Tested on production 3.1GHz dual-core Intel Core i5-based 13-inch MacBook Pro systems with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD, with prerelease macOS High Sierra and Windows 10 Home, version 1703, running in Boot Camp. Tested with prerelease Safari 11, Chrome v60.0.3112.113 and Firefox 55.0.2 on macOS, and Chrome v60.0.3112.113, Firefox 55.0.2 and Microsoft Edge 40.15063.0.0 on Windows Home, with WPA2 Wi-Fi network connection. Performance will vary based on system configuration, network connection, and other factors.
  5. Compared with Chrome and Firefox.
  6. Requires Apple Music subscription. Did anyone notice number 3 on the apple page?

Anyone see if they fixed the DisplayLink issue?

10.13.4 officially supports eGPUs. I'm not sure what your point might be otherwise.

By breaking every existing display and eGPU solution on the market???? LOL.

I don’t understand why imacs have spinning drives (fusion) at all. Why not stick SSD drives in that have less heat so that it doesn’t affect the screens.

Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 update to developers, just under one week after releasing the macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 update.

The new macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 beta can be downloaded through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store with the proper profile installed. The update does not appear to be listed in the Apple Developer Center at the current time, but it is available for developers who previously installed the macOS High Sierra beta profile.

It's not yet clear what improvements the fifth major update to macOS High Sierra will bring, but it's likely to include bug fixes and performance improvements for issues that weren't addressed in macOS High Sierra 10.13.4.

We are waiting on several features to come to macOS and iOS, including Messages on iCloud, a feature that was in the iOS 11.3 beta but later pulled. Messages on iCloud has been reintroduced in the iOS 11.4 beta and is likely in macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 as well.

The previous macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 update brought support for external graphics processors (eGPUs) along with Business Chat in Messages and several other bug fixes and smaller feature improvements.

We'll update this post should any new features be discovered in macOS High Sierra 10.13.5.

I’m wondering why it still is not posted in the Apple Development Center Download page? Coming up on 24 hours since it was made available through the App Store

Better stay with HFS+ while you can. For me the new FS completely screwed up Time Machine. Now TM creates FS snapshots before writing the backups to designated medium. Once 2-3 snapshots appear, the normal file system write operations are gone. To restore the ability to delete files etc I have to go to safe mode, mount the root FS to decrypt it, delete snapshots (they cannot be deleted from normal OS mode though no errors are displayed), unmount it, repair it, reboot. Went through this ugly sequence tree times and disabled TM completely.

It's there now for me.

They will.

Macs will have 256 GB SSD standard coming soon.

If only Apple could hurry up and do that for the iMacs...

Oh and make the Magic Trackpad default...

Apparently folks using "not on the list" eGPUs over Thunderbolt 2 are finding their systems do not work at all. Yes, that was always "unsupported", however it functioned. Clearly Apple decided to make "unsupported"=="nonfunctional", completely.

Is that 'not on the list' GPUs (such as Nvidia or non-Polaris/Vega AMD) or eGPU enclosures? Pretty sure TB2 eGPUs were disabled in the second 10.13.4 beta.

My guess is because IOS has a 80% share while OSX has a 15% share of Apple profits.

It's a little more complicated than that - Macs are like a cost center: You need the Mac to make the OS and Apps for iPhones, and Apple is one of the largest customers. So maybe we just need to rephrase the headlines like "New Apple Macs should allow breakthrough iPhone features in the near future." A classic example of this was the way the iPhone X was delayed because Apple employees didn't like the new Macbook Pro keyboard and refused to type for weeks on end.

But seriously - look at the energy Apple focuses on things like Services, the Apple Watch, and HomePod, even though they get such a little share of revenue...

Any changes?

Seed note is now available.

Notes and Known Issues

General

Known Issues

• iMac Pro users must install macOS 10.13.4 before installing macOS 10.13.5 beta 1. Support for installing macOS 10.13.5 beta on iMac Pro while running macOS 10.13.3 or 10.13.2 will be added in a future release. (39059304)

Foundation

Known Issues

• ClientsofNSURLSessionStreamTaskthatuseanon-secureconnectionfailtoconnect when an error occurs during PAC file evaluation and the system is configured for either Web Proxy Auto Discovery (WPAD) or Proxy Automatic Configuration (PAC). A PAC evaluation failure can occur when the PAC file contains invalid JavaScript or the HTTP host serving the PAC file is unreachable. (33609198)

Workaround: Use startSecureConnection to establish a secure connection.

Messages

Known Issues

• Messages may be unresponsive on launch.

• All conversations may be missing.

• Conversations may be slow to appear.

They will.

The macs aren’t as heat sensitive. Just as our broken LG lcd display on our just turned 3 year old imac. Horrible design. Spinning hard drives should not have been an option on the super skinny imacs for several years now.

My understanding is "not on the list" GPUs, but the bigger "issue" is the TB2 enclosures just not working at all. Yes, Apple axed that during the betas, but the lack of communication about it all is pretty galling. Secrecy over new products is one thing, but secrecy just to punish customers who aren't spending on newer kit? Blech.

Well put.

iApple should have sourced ZFS from sun/oracle rather than attempt to architect machine level *anything*

ZFS is the sh*tstorm

Source? Because if that's true, that would be great news!
It is simple logic. The SSDs are getting cheaper ... you can't buy a new Apple notebook, that does have a mechanical drive anymore. And I have a feeling, the desktop computers, whatever they will sell in the future, will all be on SSDs.

The only question is, if the Mac mini gets updated or not (EOLed and removed from stores)?

Well, I've read just the opposite: Memory prices are rising due to a high demand and same supply. I don't know if it's just RAM modules or NAND chips as well, but prices are higher. So it doesn't make sense, especially for Apple who is known by its huge profit margins, to make storage more affordable.

On the other hand, making a very limited 128GB model is just a way of advertising a lower than expected price for its macs, while in the real world, people end up paying 200$ more in order to have a decent minimum storage of 256GB. It's all marketing. And I doubt Apple will ditch that 128GB model.

@TrenttonY @opeter I wish base MacBook Pros would begin at 256GB of minimum storage in the future, just like you wish it too. But Apple priority is not to satisfy its customers needs, but rather make the most profit from the machines. And the useless 128GB model plays a key role to make people think MacBook Pros are affordable.
