Sounds to me like Metal capability is the requirement here, not a specific Mac model...
Some MacBook Airs (still compatible) aren't really metal compatible. You can fire up Xcode, and create a "dummy" metal app, for macOS, and they flat out won't render...

Well, they did that with High Sierra.

Mh, perfomance improvements only sort of less than i've expected last year... I'm on 10.13.5 and the performance is equal to that sierra had at that point with my MacBook Pro 2016. The big problem is, that system animations (three finger up for multi-window, or three finger sideway for fullscreen view change) always stutter with iGPU on. If the external GPU (460 pro) is active nothing stutters... :( Hopefully they change or better fix this in Mojave.

Is the new macOS supposed to be a performance/stability release as well as iOS? I wonder if 4 year old Macs will get a 40% speed boost in certain cases the way 4 year old iPhones will.

I think focusing on performance and stability is absolutely the right thing to do, so I hope these news OSes live up to the hype.

I don't expect any performance improvement on the Mac, I guess it will be the same as in HS or slower, but I don-t expect anything faster than that. What I expect is something with less bugs.

iOS is a different story, IOS11 is a terrible OS for us, 5% of users. Thanks to Apple for ignoring the 95% and try to do something for the minority that complain about iOS, but it remains to see if it is true.

After sleeping through some of the keynote (I cringed watching that lego skit), I'll buck the trend and say that this was was one of the better keynotes in a few years. Practical features that will solidify why being part of the Apple ecosystem is beneficial. Features like group FaceTime, being able to take a picture on my iPhone and having it appear immediately on my Mac, and shared connectivity like a walkie/talkie actually has me excited.

It's probably because I'm a fan of LEGO, but that was my favorite part. I felt like had they told us that News, Stocks, Voice Memos, and the other app were the same on iOS and macOS I would have cared more about them.

So I guess it will be a "Good Bye" to my 2009 White MacBook, which currently supports High Sierra. Time to start saving up for a new MacBook Pro.
Yea dude, I'm in the same situation. This is the end of the cycle for my 2010 MacBook Pro, which is supporting High Sierra like a hero (a bit hot, but otherwise, running smooth).

I'm afraid it is time to look for a new 13" MacBook or MacBook Pro. Now the question is... Should I wait until new ARM MacBooks are released? Or buy the Intel Ice Lake ones if they manage to release them on time?

My family and I are HUGE fans of legos, but not the virtual kind ;-)

This also reminds me. I was super excited that there's finally parental controls/limits on iOS devices for our children. Maybe in a few years they'll also add multi-user support so I can finally get an iPad for my boys (sorry Apple, but I won't get them each one).

Wow. A few days ago Apple was being coy and aloof if Dark Mode was coming any time soon. Now at WWDC, it's Dark Mode Lovefest. Many of the desktop demos are in Dark Mode. LOL

Can some who has two HomePods stereo paired please test if you can airplay to them with the new home app in Mojave. I bought a second HomePod thinking I could airplay to them to only find out you can't do that in High Sierra, only on iOS 11.4. I have a week to return the second one and will have to do that if I can't use them in stereo on my iMac. Thanks
