Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming macOS Monterey 12.1 update to developers for testing purposes, with the new software coming just a couple days after the official release of macOS Monterey.

Registered developers can download the beta through the Apple Developer Center and after the appropriate profile is installed, betas will be available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences.

According to Apple's release notes, the update enables support for graphics cards that integrate the AMD Radeon 6600XT GPU. There are no other new features mentioned aside from bug fixes. We'll update this article should we find anything else new after installing the beta.

Seems to me like Universal control is again delayed. But I hope they fixed the notch related issues on the new macbooks.

Yeah I’m kind of thinking to jump to this beta. Git external display issues with my 14”

I just hope this fixes the battery preferences bug.
For those who don’t know, it’s a weird glitch where whenever you go into the battery preferences, and adjust a setting like how long the screen stays on, and then exit, the setting actually doesn’t change. Been an issue for about a year now, one that I still haven’t been able to get around

That's odd. I didn't have this bug on Big Sur and Monterey. Is it possible it has something to do with your particular install? Have you tried doing this via a new user account, or even a clean install, just to rule it out?

Have you reported this via FeedBack Assistant to Apple?

I was forced to migrate to Monterey because I bought one of the new MacBooks. Honestly, I'm pretty impressed. Not with the new features, but with the general stability... everything seems to work pretty well. All of my automator apps I put together myself don't work for some reason but that's a small thing. I use NordVPN and they just released a new app that now works, so I think I'm in the clear. I haven't even had to install Rosetta yet, so the mainstream developer have done a great job in developing universal binaries.

Curious if anyone else is seeing weirdness with the new MBP 16" M1 Pro with a Samsung G9 49" curved monitor? I updated the monitor firmware to version 1013.0 which finally allowed the monitor to use a DisplayPort connection to the laptop (and previously a Mac mini M1). Before this firmware update, the monitor would never wake up so I had to use HDMI instead. But, if I set the Display to 120hz in the System Preferences, it always changes back to the variable 60-120hz setting. This causes whole screen flickering when I scroll through certain apps. If I change the Mac's setting to 120hz, the flickering goes away (but this setting won't stick). I'm also getting a lovely full screen of green bars briefly when the monitor wakes up. The M1 Mac mini didn't do this.

How bad are the bugs in the .0 release? My company needs to upgrade due to an xcode 12/Catalina/iOS 15 bug, aside from the "it's always better to wait a release or three", how is Monterey overall? How bad are the bugs that are being fixed?

Keep us posted on if the 60fps lock in Safari on the new MacBooks is fixed!
I can guarantee it won’t be fixed I bet they know about it and they want it that way, I doubt it’s a bug as they wouldn’t release a new product with such a major flaw, the whole pro motion thing with the new MacBooks is hyped to much; safari will stay at 60hz

I don't think it's intentional because they specifically used scrolling in Safari in the Apple Event to demonstrate how fluid the ProMotion screen is.

Look at 36:15

Indeed I have, new administrator account, safe mode, the works.
No matter what I do, I cannot extend my “screen sleeps after” setting past two minutes.
M1 MacBook Air by the way

Can someone ASK APPLE execs directly and find out if External GPU use will ever be supported in Monterey for Apple Silicon?

It's bad enough the machine is totally NOT upgradable. RAM, CPU, SSD.

The least they could do is allow use of external GPU's or video cards.

So the big Q here is, should we install the Beta? Will it fixe some issues or will it just add more bugs? How can I report bugs when I'm not on the beta so I don't have the feedback assistant?

Catalina is still my main driver on a 2013 MacBook Air. I have a new 2021 MacBook Air that I just upgraded from Big Sur to Monterey and barely notice a change, but the "AirShare" (my name for it) works really well! Love that I can cast my iPhone screen to my Mac! Will make website demo videos a breeze to record, being able to show the desktop site along side the mobile site easily in the same video!
