How bad are the bugs in the .0 release?

I got brave and leaped. Pleasantly, no compatibility issues (VMWare Fusion and Mathematica), no obvious breakage (like Mail was on Catalina .0). No weird hardware behavior (MBP 2018, Mini 2018). That's obviously the way it should be, but after recent history I did not have positive expectations.

Nope, and if you do a search in system preferences type in universal it matches to Universal Control Topic which opens displays so they haven't moved it. ;)
Darn, hopefully it'll come in a beta next week. If they only revised it to "coming this fall" last week they must expect it to release before December surely?

Seems to me like Universal control is again delayed. But I hope they fixed the notch related issues on the new macbooks.

Apple said last year that tentpole
features would start to be released thru the year. UC will be part of that, so they can try to have more stable releases (which we’ve seen with Monterey, it was stable from Beta 1 almost, seemed like less issues than previous years).

They show the features coming to Monterey, but doesn’t mean they will be in x.0. I don’t think they explicitly said UC would be part of Monterey at launch, just that it was part of Monterey (so it being in 12.3 would still be part of MacOS 12 Monterey).

So, it’s wrong to assume it’s delayed, when it’s probably part of a plan.

Hmm can it be enabled via terminal still?

How bad are the bugs in the .0 release? My company needs to upgrade due to an xcode 12/Catalina/iOS 15 bug, aside from the "it's always better to wait a release or three", how is Monterey overall? How bad are the bugs that are being fixed?
It's Big Sur with the improvements they should have made months ago in a point release.
In my personal experience, it has made my 2020 Intel MacBook Air work a lot better. Catalina was Catalina, but Big Sur was somehow worse. This release feels to me like what Big Sur should have been. The computer actually wakes from sleep faster, works better in general.

Jesus I hate how no one is talking about the external GPU update. will this work for M1? I can finally starting figuring out a way to leave my windows pc; and just plug in my GPU to a external setup and just use steam proton once it releases

I just hope this fixes the battery preferences bug.
For those who don’t know, it’s a weird glitch where whenever you go into the battery preferences, and adjust a setting like how long the screen stays on, and then exit, the setting actually doesn’t change. Been an issue for about a year now, one that I still haven’t been able to get around
Resetting SMC on your Mac will probably fix this issue for you.

SharePlay is available on this build

Starting to look like we won't be seeing Universal Control this year... honestly, that was the most exciting feature for me. I was too excited when they demoed it at WWDC because it's going to make my iPad so much more useful for work. I would imagine they are having trouble with detecting position/orientation. Maybe that onstage demo was a specific setup to show the unfinished concept like the infamous Photos app demo back during the keynote for the original iPhone.

Oh… AMD Radeon 6600XT GPU???

Is that a desktop GPU that the M1 Max just ate for lunch? So glad it’s finally supported now that it’s obsolete ?

Apple said the other year that tentpole features would come out over the year, so they can try to ensure smoother releases, and this is just part of that.

The website said late fall, so we could see it being enabled in 12.1 beta 2, this will be public release before Christmas.

Did update to 12.1 for my mbp 14” can’t hurt as they most likely will fix bugs for the 14/16” model as they has been released now and bugs are reported.
Jumping to ordinary update cycle after 12.1 has been released :)

Does this fix the firmware update failures when installing on a non-originally installed SSD? I cannot install Monterey due to this issue!
