I'm waiting on stability reports before putting this on "Max"(my 16" M1 Max) as I use it for law school and need reliability.

Speedtest on ookla with a 1gbps fiber it's struggling safari and slowing down entire system, a disaster.
Tried out with both safari and safari technology preview.

Anyone else with the same issue?
I'm thinking to revert to the older stable release.

The bug is not happening doing speedtest inside google search directly.

Thats using only https://www.speedtest.net. I see it manifest itself as the Safari Web content for process goes up to multiple GB just for that web site. Yeah saw it jump to 18GB twice and gone when tab is closed.

Comparably https://openspeedtest.com used 2GB momentarily but went lower after download part was completed.

Thats actually the first time I seen this M1 iMac show anything that high for a process, no memory leaks have been seen with clean 12.2 prior with Safari 15.3.

As a comparison Firefox 96.0.2 doesn't present this issue with speedtest.net.

Thank you for the speed of your reply.
Yes, this is a new bug that was not happening on last release or beta, so it is a new bug.
Last version of chrome seems not affected by this bug so it is a safari related.
I will try to add to master post, to follow the evolution of this bug.

Why would you even consider it then?
If you truly need high reliability beta software should be avoided unless it patches a bug that impacts you

I did report this to Feedback already. Easy one to reproduce and to avoid. ;)

Anybody seeing issues with a second display? My Intel MacMini 2nd display (HDMI) will not work. Working fine before 12.3

Spatial Audio settings are finally available in the Control Centre! Spatialise stereo option from iOS 15 is also now available!

Small OT, but I found the Dolby Atmos implementation to be terrible.
Other than a few purpose made demos, every atmos mix I listened to (consider I'm dac-decent headphones equipped) is horrible.
You can see the potential of the effect, with the sound coming from different angles, but the mixes often lack intensity and seem very dull in DA.
In some cases I was able to hear some faint instruments in the background much better in stereo.
Once again, nothing beats a well made stereo mix.

How is the overall usability? Is it at least as smooth as the 12.2 release?

Seems at least as fluid as 12.2 on my 16' M1 Pro. Of course, can't guarantee for all scenarios, also it's been only a few hours. I guess it's defo more stable than I expected it to be for a bigger update like this one.

From a gear patrol article

Where cinemas have many speakers positioned all around you, Atmos can create a similar immersive effect on as little as a two-channel speaker -- anything but mono. Dolby licenses its technologies — including Atmos — to the various manufacturers like Apple, Samsung and Sonos. This licensing agreement includes the software package that does the decoding and the rendering of the Atmos stream, as well as technical support from Dolby.

That software package is enough to give the impression of vertical height without surround sound or ceiling speakers, or even upward-firing drivers. Atmos allows soundbars that don't have upward-firing speakers to still make use of height virtualization technology. Atmos is smart enough to figure out what kind of system you have, whether that's a 2.0, 5.1.2 or a 7.1.2, and then render the audio so that it's accurate and immersive.

I think its neat that Apple provides a pseudo directional effect with their AirPods, and you get a more pleasing immersive effect from the multi-speakers involved in 2.0 implementation in their new 2021 computers but its not multi-channel Dolby Atmos audio immersion like in your home theater. Its seems to be more of Apple just cashing in about we support Dolby Atmos immersive effects, but its limited. Its certainly nice to hear their Dolby Atmos 2.0 Apple Music, but as you say its that much better just listen to the lossless stereo source without Dolby Atmos involved on a really good pair of headphones using a DAC/Headphone AMP. ;)

As seen on 9 to 5 Mac article, this 12.3 beta allows AirPods to be updated from a Mac. The caveat is just like iOS there is no indication of an update being available, it will happen when AirPods are connected via Bluetooth.

My 16” MacBook automatically asked to add my work email on startup (which I use on my iPhone but never bothered to setup on my 16). It automatically transferred login/pass/mail servers to my MacBook and then when I opened mail and went to settings the work email account was there but was not turned on. Clicked the checkbox for Mail, and my work email started downloading/syncing. Pretty handy.
