Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming watchOS 4.3 update to developers, just two days after releasing watchOS 4.2.2, a minor update focusing on bug fixes and performance improvements.

Once the proper configuration profile has been installed from the Apple Developer Center, the new watchOS beta can be downloaded through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to General --> Software update.

To install the update, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50 percent battery, it must be placed on the charger, and it has to be in range of the iPhone.

It's not yet clear what new features or improvements the watchOS 4.3 beta might introduce, but we'll update this post once we've installed the update and have had time to look for any new features.

Update: watchOS 4.3 introduces support for Nightstand mode when in portrait orientation, it includes a new charging animation when placing the Apple Watch on the charger, and it adds Activity information to the Siri watch face.

The update also includes the return of a much-desired feature that allows music playing on the iPhone to be controlled using the Music app on the Apple Watch. In prior versions of watchOS, the Music app could only be used to control music playing from the watch itself.

Will the famous ;-) diabetes monitoring app DEXCOM finally be able to connect directly to the Watch?

watchOS 4.3 features build version 15T5165e. The update comes in at 341MB.

From Apple:
The watchOS 4.3 SDK provides support for developing watchOS apps for watchOS 4.3. The SDK comes bundled with Xcode 9.3 available from the Apple Developer Program download page.

WatchOS updates take an obnoxiously long time to download and install so it might be a bit before anyone gets a chance to find anything.

I've always wondered why it takes so long. I'm guessing it's because the update has to be downloaded to the phone first, then re-transmitted to the watch?

That’s what I always assumed, but it’s still a ridiculously long time. The 288mb update says it will take 40 minutes to download when the 2.something gb iOS update took less than 10 minutes to download.

Please let one of the enhancements be major performance improvements. Calendar and Workout apps in particular are suuuuuper slow for me.

I’m just praying Apple finally fixed Siri not being silent when using HomeKit light commands. Wasn’t fixed in this last update.

Siri confirms, audibly, when she turns my Hue lights on in the current release software. Is that what you're talking about? Not broken for me.

I wish they would make a watch version of the Apple TV remote app. The watch has the potential to be the best remote for the ATV.
Its got a tricky name on the Watch: "Remote". ;)

EDIT: I see you wanted the newer version. That would probably put my Series 0 in the grave, unfortunately.

Hey Apple,
Why can't we develop a @#$* watch face?!? It's things like this, apple ignoring what its customers actually WANT, that has driven me in the past year to, for the first time in my life, buy an android smartphone.
I bought the Apple Watch the day it first came out, and I stopped using it permanently about 2 weeks later. I'm rocking a nice Samsung Gear S3 now. 'cause guess what? I can develop watch faces for it, and make it actually do what **I** need it to do, rather than what apple THINKS i need it to do.

How long until I can no longer work how I want on my Mac?...

iCloud Message sync not included in this beta. But that is one I wish they would have included.
I don't think the watch will ever have it shame, so annoying deleting every message from watch but only positive if you delete from iCloud and all message are gone they will stay on watch
