I expanded on this in a later comment, but essentially, for the premium prices of these phones, along with the cutting edge hardware Apple advertises, I would expect mainstream support for at least four years.

Obviously Apple makes no guarantees about any future features, but I find it hypocritical of them to advertise such a powerful device, only for it not being considered good enough a couple years later.
And if they come up with an amazing new feature that the previous three years of devices can't support without a hardware change, are they supposed to just hold it for another four years? Especially as they're getting slaughtered in the tech press that they're falling behind and can't innovate and their stock price is tanking because they're not offering said feature?

this. While it is likely frustrating if you previously bought a 14 or heck even a base 15 non-pro, and can’t access apple intelligence - surely you can agree that Apple generally does a good job of providing support for a decent length of time.

Where did you find this information?

I find it hard to believe they would release an iOS version next year that won't work on, for example, iPhone 16. Makes no sense.
Well, iOS 18 doesn’t work fully on iPhone 15. You think a meager extra 2gb solves the needs for future updates?

I'm just looking for any proof or reported rumors for what you said ("iOS 19 needs 12gb RAM 🫢") other than random speculation, as I'm curious. Like I said, it makes no sense that Apple would release an OS next year that doesn't work on the phones being released this week.

In this case, Apple Intelligence could work fine. They have chosen to make it not work.

They have a created a "secure" server farm to handle Apple Intelligence queries. It might take a bit more time to achieve results, but that's better than nothing at all.

As I mentioned before. They did the same thing with iPhone 15 which also makes no sense that it can’t fully handle iOS 18.

I went on a ride this morning for the first time since updating to 18. Normally, I set Display Auto-Lock to Never, so my Strava data remains visible. Maybe I’m missing it, but there’s no option to have your screen remain on at all times? Is that real? Did that feature move someplace obscure? I find it hard to believe they would remove that feature. Surely I’m missing the ability to keep my phone screen on all the time.

Edit: this is, in fact, the result of a work profile installed on my device. Having a Display set to never lock places the company at risk. 👎

While I admit, it sucks that it’s not supported, think about your car. I bought the top of the line Civic years ago, and the very next year they added a lot more features. They knew they were releasing them (cars, like phones, are developed years in advance). No one was throwing a fit when one year you didn’t get all of the “adaptive cruise control/lane keep assist” and the next model had it. It’s very common for companies to do that, and it’s only phones (especially iPhones) that people get this upset about. By the logic being thrown around in these posts, Apple should have thrown in at least 32 GB’s of RAM, and the M4 Max chip in the 14 line.
