None of us know what happened, but we all read the same rumors and "reports" from Gurman.
As for why, why would they announce Siri doing impossible things in 2024 when the people who actually worked on Siri knew for a fact it would never be able to do that?
If they were partnering 9 months ago, why have we seen absolutely nothing throughout the entire 26 cycle?
All I'm saying is the timeline adds up.
Gurman is a scammer. Gets paycheck by scamming and lying to people.

They announced it jointly with Google, and Google might not have wanted waiting months longer, because it’s good press for them. These kinds of announcements usually come shortly after a deal was signed, not half a year later.
It’s not like making Google their default search engine. With an engineering complexity like this, they wouldn’t announce it without making sure they can deliver on the integration.
So no, they didn’t just start work after the announcement.

Sure, I was commenting on the deal. They also tested with Anthropic last year before deciding not to go with them for Siri.

Why are they doing point release updates with nothing new? I don’t understand.
I’ve been daily driving betas for years. It’s really not what you think it is any longer.

Right! This late in the year, the betas mostly include bug fixes. If this was Beta 1 of iOS 27, then I'd say putting it on the daily driver isn't the move for everyone.

Well, iOS 26 has had a crappy start, so probably not the only one who got screwed. It was just the 4th beta of 26.0 after all.

Seriously… you don’t actually believe Apple only started working on this when they announced it?
By the time anything is made public — especially something as significant as a partnership involving Google and Gemini — it’s already been in development for months, if not longer. Apple doesn’t operate reactively at that level.
These integrations go through strategy, legal, engineering, and controlled internal testing well before anyone outside the company hears a word. The public announcement typically happens when things are mature enough to surface in testing environments — which is why people suddenly “spot” it in server activity.
If Apple had only just kicked this off at the announcement stage, Tim Cook wouldn’t just have questions to answer — he’d have a serious credibility problem.

iOS 27 will arrive for end users in the early Fall of 2026. It will be available to developers in June of this year.

That is a very valid point and that gives me hope we could see it sooner than later. We may never know but it be interesting to know exactly when inside Apple someone said 'time to implement Gemini', cause this is taking too long. I'm interested to see how all this pans out.
Ha yeah I get your point but it was more than Gurman saying it that time. And in that case we did see public events lining up with the rumors, eg John G getting the can at exactly the rumored time.
