is there a list of car models that support carplay? I guess my factory install voice command in 2013 kia won't work with car play. :(

Yes, here is the current list:

Ferrari FF

(Alpine and Pioneer have several aftermarket head units that also support it.)

Just installed the Pioneer AppRadio 4 with carplay in my 2012 Honda Civic. I love it though I'd be interested in going wireless. I'm betting it will be wifi not bluetooth in which case my receiver wouldn't work with it.

Edit: To be honest, I still think I'd plug it in most of the time to offset battery drain.

Please make it so that I can pick an emoji and then get right back to typing in the language I was just writing in. I don't interact with french speaking people anymore because of you Apple. :(

EDIT: Nevermind, I've actually been using it wrong I guess.

Is it possible that future 8.3 betas add this? Maybe Apple has an event in March where it gets announced? Makes you wonder why they decided to release this beta now.

I suppose. But you think if the code was coming they'd have held off releasing 8.3 at all. If it needs testing now, why weren't the features - like China's Apple Pay - planned for 8.2?

It's confusing to me. I'm not sure why this stuff couldn't be rolled into 8.2 or why 8.4 couldn't be rolled into 8.3. Basically we'll have 3 OS upgrades in the span of 4 months unless one of thses comes after WWDC which seems odd.

Wireless CarPlay? I still can't even get my iPhone 6 Plus to connect to the bluetooth adapter in my car that worked fine with my iPhone 5 on iOS 7.

Seems much smoother on my 6+ >> they've even tried to fix the lag when rotating Spotlight. The 4 corners of folders no longer redraw themselves when a folder is opened and the messaging app is much more fluid when selecting a photo to send from the quick select. The new emoji picker is very fluid and the emojis are slightly bigger which is great.

I just installed AppRadio 4 in my 2002 Honda Odyssey as well. I like it alot. the only thing that keep me from using Carplay everyday is cable. For daily casual usage, current bluetooth streaming is sufficient.

if Apple want people to use Carplay more, they have to make it seamlessly integrate and connect to car stereo without hugging it to the cable (as in hugging iphone to the wall for charging)

I hope Pioneer update firmware for the current appradio 4. Or this is only available on the new model Appradio 5 by end of this year?

Hmmm…. so Apple switching to "incremental upgrades" and no longer this giant OS upgrade on a yearly cycle?

Interesting indeed.

Software development had been moving away from long and big release (Waterfall model) to rapid incremental release for many years now (Agile). There are many advantages to this new methodology: adapt to customer's demands quickly, less waste, better quality.

Good to hear. :)

Hahahahaha :p

I can tell that from the state iOS 8 and Windows 8 were released in.

There is nothing really odd about it. Constant release of features is the new thing is software engineering (well, not that new, but it has been used only recently). Large monolithic releases are almost a thing of the past. If it wasn't for the fact that Apple needs to sync its development to September hardware releases, you'd always get releases like that throughout the year without one big release. Only having big releases for marketing rather than technical reasons :).

Large monolitic releases with a deadlines (like the IOS 8 release) is what causes issues. If Apple had released 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, etc. and then released IOS 8, there would have been a lot less issues and those that would have appeared would have hit less people and less functionalities. Mitigating risk is the reason for incremental releases.

As for Windows 8, they had years to develop it and it was buggy as hell, so not sure what on earth your saying. They switched away from that for that very reason. Windows 10 (and after) will be released on a continuous schedule.

Seems to be quite a few substantial visual changes for a point release. All of them welcome.

if you go in itunes and app store and under password settings, there is an option to allow u to require/ not require a password for a free app. but it only works after a first purchase sadly, hope in the future password is not needed for free apps

Seems like focus is really shifting to china, before europe was second most of the time, especially germany... :(

I think you mean the UK. Germany only got the full itunes in the cloud experience a few months ago, while most other EU countries don't even have it yet. The UK had it for at least 2 years now, so I wouldn't call that focusing especially on Germany. The first EU country to normally get all the new Apple US stuff is the UK, unless it's called iTunes Radio :D

Third party head units

Regarding CarPlay wi-fi, I'm wondering how this might affect the Alpine iLX-007 (and maybe other third-party head units as well?). There have been persistent rumors that at some point this unit might develop wi-fi capacity, and maybe "at some point" means the release of iOS 8.3. This would only be possible if this unit contains Bluetooth circuitry waiting to be activated. Although there are plenty of reviews of it available on the Web, I haven't seen any published teardown that would establish whether this is or is not the case.
