I think they meant without a phone present. There's no reason you can't stream music on your S3 GPS model with a phone nearby.

WatchOS removed the option to browse Apple music on S2. And if the new Apple music app is LTE-only, then that's the reality and absurd.

Considering that to downgrade the os at Apple Watch is a pain do you guys think it worth the update? I use the watch daily for exercising and reminders

Series 3 GPS here

I just want to access my iPhone’s music library again on my S2. Sounds like 4.1 brings it back.
You and me BOTH! (and a ton of other unhappy folks) Go to the bugreport.apple.com and submit a modification request.... The more folks we get to do this the better the chances.

The UI in watchOS 4 is terrible. The gigantic tiles for exercise, the vertical tiles for the dock, the giant tiles for playlists. They are trying to make me hate the watch.

edit: detail I mentioned was wrong.

Apple, I appreciate your Music subscription service and I’m a subscriber. But please keep your focus on other things too, such as allowing us to listen to podcasts. Please don’t be so focused on the trees to the point of not smelling the forest.
Can anybody confirm that WatchOS 4.1 does not include Podcast streaming?
I use Spotify, as the Apple Music interface is not intuitive to me, but would love to see Podcast streaming on the Apple Watch.

Streaming directly from Apple Music is a killer app. I can't wait for this. Syncing music on Watch (until now) has been an atrocity and felt like time traveling to my circa 2005 iPod.

From a sales perspective, I also think this could boost adoption because it's going to improve perception of Watch as an all around fitness device. Music and exercise go together for many people and this concept (streaming entire catalog effortlessly to Watch) is very easy to advertise and understand.

I just hope for an independent player from someone that can handle podcasts. It is a HUGE (IMO) gap in the watch, and now that it has cellular data, it is an even bigger gap for those of us wanting more audio options.

I'd probably stop buying new iPhones if the Watch with LTE did more.

I am surprised by this. I add a song to the playlist that I copy to my watch, and the next days it automatically copied over. It seems automatic and seamless for me. I never think about doing anything extra to get the changes to that playlist to my watch.

The SQ of the transferred file was awful. Clearly was recompressed, I couldn't stand it... the current Overcast app control from the watch is broken too. I took it off and it's easier just to use the Now Playing App on the watch.
Am I right in thinking if you force touch you can choose the source?

Not sure if this helps you, but maybe it will help someone else.

I think I discovered how to upload podcasts from iTunes to the iPhone to the apple watch. I created Smart playlists of my podcasts, checked the play lists on the podcasts screen when the iPhone was connected and syncing. This created playlists in the Music app that contained the podcasts I specified. I then went in the watch app and told the music app to sync those podcast playlists just like any music playlist. The watch and iPhone is currently syncing and so far it seems to be working. No error messages or anything.

Yes I'm aware they removed the ability to browse music on your watch is OS4 but the idea that only the LTE watch can stream music is misleading. It's the only version that can stream music without your phone present. The other models would stream it from your phone. Am I missing something here?

watchOS 4.1. It's back, and better than ever!

I don't understand how the music works on this new beta. It seems like you now have two 'Now Playing' area's and one of them doesn't match what is playing.

Speculation or did you upgrade your s3 gps?

I’ve a s3 gps since it’s the only one sold here. It’s crazy if s2 with watchOS3 can stream Apple Music but S3 not. I don’t even have the option to buy the LTE
Series 2 can only stream using the iPhone. That really doesn't change.

Só who uses the watch a lot to exercise and reminders daily should update to this beta? Series 3 here GPS

you won't be allowed to downgrade your WatchOS. The Series 3 comes with WatchOS4 and it was built for WatchOS4. Sorry!

I meant to watch os 4.1 beta, 4.0 to 4.1 beta, what do you think?

for me my watch is VERY important part of my fitness regime. I would NOT play with a beta and take the chance of not having my activity posting. Apple posts the Developers beta for use on testing third party apps not for normal operations. I will wait.

We're getting closer!
I had the first full day of use with my Watch 3 LTE, and I didn't miss my phone at all except for being able
to play music in my car..which I can fix with a bluetooth adapter for my car stereo,
I have about a 1000 songs on my watch.
Strapped it on this morning at 9am, made 3 phone calls with about 10 minutes of talk time and
some light texting. Also used a couple of the apps. Checked email etc.
I have about 45% charge left and am going to workout
with it now.
I need my iPhone 8+ for the apps and camera but for me is FHONE Freedom !
