beta3 was pretty stable for me. I'm not rushing to get to beta4 until I hear more.

Question: I am running iOS 12 b3 and macOS Mojave dev beta. Hardware is a iPhone X and iMac 5K (late 2015 model).

I cannot get AirPlay to work no matter what I try. I can't send to my phone from my Mac, or the other way around. Is this a known issue with the betas?

I don’t get shortcuts at all but I also can’t be bothered to invest any time looking into it properly.

Like why would I send my coworker the exact same message every day? What r the odds in sending the same message daily.

Why would I open the same random website more than once?

Why would I send the exact same email ever again?

I've set up a few different shortcuts already in the app. You can set up a variety of things that are really useful. I have one in the 'Share' sheet that converts a video to a GIF, one that starts navigation home and starts playing a preset playlist on Shuffle when I'm ready to leave work, one that will log my daily weight right in the Shortcuts widget (it's a long process to open the health app to log your daily weight), another one that starts a few different actions for the gym. My husband usually sends me a text when he's ready for me to pick him up from work, I tap the "On my way" action in the widget (or use my Siri shortcut) and it starts Apple Maps, plays my music and texts him "I'm leaving now". I think the Shortcuts are great, I can't wait until more apps support it (i'd rather use Waze for navigation/traffic).

I have a few tasks that this would really help with. My parents always like to know when I'm driving home and when to expect me. Shortcuts can calculate travel time to my house, text my parents that I will be there in x minutes, and start playing my music.

Apple today seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming iOS 12 update to developers for testing purposes, two weeks after seeding the third beta and more than a month after introducing the new software at the Worldwide Developers Conference.

Registered developers can download the new iOS 12 beta from Apple's Developer Center or over-the-air after installing the proper certificate.

iOS 12 introduces major updates to the iOS operating system, with Apple revamping the system from top to bottom to make iPhones and iPads, especially older models, faster and more responsive.

On the iPhone X, there are new Animoji characters along with "Memoji," which are customizable, personalized Animoji that can be used both in Messages and in FaceTime. Messages and FaceTime have also gained fun new camera effects, and Group FaceTime support allows for calls with up to 32 people.

Siri is smarter in iOS 12 with a new Shortcuts feature that lets you create custom automations using first and third-party apps that can be activated with Siri, with Shortcuts able to be created with the beta version of the Shortcuts app that was introduced earlier in July.

Apple also built a comprehensive set of time management and monitoring tools into iOS 12 with Screen Time, allowing you to keep track of just how much time you're spending on your iPhone and iPad. App limits can help you cut back on iOS device usage, and robust parental controls are included for families.

Updated Do Not Disturb options make turning off notifications and distractions easier than ever, and a new Do Not Disturb at Bedtime feature cuts down on nighttime interruptions.

Group Notifications make incoming notifications easier to view and manage, while a new Instant Tuning feature lets you tweak your notification settings right on the Lock screeen on a notification-by-notification basis.

Apple News has a new Browse feature, the Stocks app has been redesigned, iBooks has been overhauled with a new look and a new name - Apple Books - and Voice Memos has been revamped with iCloud support and an iPad app.

ARKit 2.0 introduces new capabilities like shared experiences that let two people see the same AR environment on separate devices, and persistence, which allows AR experiences to be saved across multiple sessions. There's also a new Measure app for measuring objects using AR capabilities.

iOS 12 includes a revamped and rebuilt Maps app that uses a new Apple-designed Maps engine that will display foliage, pools, buildings, pedestrian pathways, and other map elements more accurately. The new Maps also includes significant improvements to traffic, real-time road conditions, construction, and more, plus it will enable Apple to push out changes and fixes more quickly.

The revamped Maps app is available in the San Francisco Bay Area during the beta testing period, and when iOS 12 launches in the fall, it will expand to all of Northern California. From there, Apple will continue rolling it out to additional U.S. locations across late 2018 and 2019.

Tons of other small tweaks and features have been added to iOS 12, so make sure to check out our dedicated roundup for additional detail on what's new in iOS 12.

Early betas of new operating system updates always introduce tweaked features and new functionality, and we'll be outlining what's new in the fourth beta below. We also rounded up all of the changes that were introduced in the previous betas, beta 2 and beta 3.

iOS 12 is available for developers and public beta testers, with a public launch planned for the fall alongside new iPhones.

Update: According to Apple's release notes for beta 4, there are several new issues with features like Screen Time, the App Store, and Siri Shortcuts. Apps in the App Store might fail to download properly the first time, and the cellular signal status bar on the iPhone X could be inaccurate while on the Lock Screen or Home Screen.

Screen Time usage data and settings may not sync between devices, with Apple recommending a restart to fix the issue.

Siri Shortcuts may not work while using CarPlay, could result in an error message on HomePod, may not be restored from iCloud backup, may not work if a device is locked, and SiriKit queries could be delayed or result in an error message.

Screen time has not worked for me ever

Ohhhh alright, thank you for clarifying. I liked it better the old way lol

It's slightly more streamlined now. You push one button or the other, depending on what you want to do, and you're doing that one thing right away instead of having to make another choice.

Apple Health app / heart information needs to improve. Recently got my wife a Fitbit Versa and wow, is the health app so much better and easier to read.

Downloading on iPhone 7; I got a LOT of freezing up in different apps (settings, safari, etc) Beta 3, hope they fixed that.

Your voicemail will come back!

Had a brief scare as it looked like all my voicemail was gone, even after a couple of reboots. But, there must've just been some thing that had to re-sync, it all returned after several minutes, with the state property intact (ie. my unread voicemail was still marked as unread).

My phone app showed a 7 notification badge but my Visual voicemail wasn't working, it prompted me to call my VM instead. Called, entered my password and then I hung up and it was already loading my old VMs.

Does the iphone stilll crash and respring if you take a lot of screenshots in a row?

Nope. It seems a lot faster, too.

Hoping it helps some of the lock screen weirdness I've been having. Here's one example; time disappears. Notifications would appear but no time.

Here's another. A blank box appearing and refusing to go away even after clearing notification center (restarting was the only way to clear it).

Similar here, though I didn't bother 'calling'. It just eventually loaded up and started working.

You’re right. When I’m in a message and want to send a photo, if I press the little camera button, on every other iOS, it gives you the option to select photos from your library or take one with your camera. On my iOS 12 betas, pressing the little camera on an iMessage just goes straight to letting you take a photo, does not show the photos from your library. If I want to send a photo I already have taken, I have to go to the photos app, find the photo and then share it from there to the iMessage app.

Actually this is not correct. You CAN of course do it that way, but in the messages app if you look at the app tray there you'll find the photos icon and you can just tap it and go into your photo library to send a pic directly from the messages app.

no cell service after this was installed.. just keeps searching.. on wifi I can use wifi calling, but turn off wifi and it never connects to AT&T service... going to downgrade and test again...

Shortcuts the feature is better with Shortcuts (or workflow) the app. I've got a workflow that gathers up my 5-star rated songs, sorts them by last played, and gives me the ones that I haven't listened to in the longest time. It's the only way I can replicate the smart playlists feature of iTunes, the one thing that I actually MISS about iTunes. :p

But I agree that most of suggested shortcuts currently aren't very good. :/
