I'm curious - what serious stuff does Mojave bring? I refer here to speed, security, improvements to APFS, enhanced security, power management, reliability etc?

I care less about dark mode and freaking emojis for my new top of the line MacBook Pro 15!

Beta 4 seems to have introduced a new bug where you cannot open private browsing in Safari. Can anyone confirm?

For me it introduced a bug where all new windows opened don't look open, neither through right clicking the safari icon or through the menu bar. The windows are in fact open, if you right click on the safari icon, you will seem new windows with your home page, clicking them brings the window to the front.

For me beta 4 is the worst yet.
The others were pretty good but now I can't login to my NAS shares anymore. It always connects as GUEST and even when I click "connect as..." it just connects as GUEST again.
Also I get an error popup all of the time when I open drives in the finder saying assistantd crashed.
AND Safari is terribly slow now when scrolling which is quite obvious for me on the macrumors front page. It's just stuck, waits a bit, scroll, stuck again...
Anyone else experiencing any of these issues?

sounds awful. I think I'll wait a little longer.

let me see if I understood correctly. you said that you are going back because dark mode is awful
not only you are the first and only person so far that I seen mentioning that
but I think your case is more that you can't install it yet
dark mode is not an obstacle because you can use the normal regular mode
but for that you have to be able to install it

have you seen Mojave dark mode in any of your systems?
i'm not saying seeing dark mode in youtube videos
how you can judge something that you still haven't seen personally in your own system

me personally, I like many new features that Mojave is going to bring
but my favorite one is dark mode
I installed the betas and i saw it personally on my system
it looks beautiful
at least in my own opinion, you are free to disagree
cheers

I was mostly joking. I was saying that I strongly prefer dark mode, and yes I had been using Mojave for a week or so on my older MacBook 2016. I just upgraded to the 2018 MacBook, and it so far does not allow the Mojave beta to be installed.

I’ll be quite fine. It’s not a problem, just a preference. I have always been very preferential to dark mode, in any app and any OS. I have sensitivity to any bright lights, plus dark mode just looks nicer in my opinion.

Can't say that I am running beat 4 on my 2012 rMBP. Seems no worse than the previous beta 3.

Can't install it on my 2018 MBP 15. Keep getting an error message about "important content could not be downloaded at this time."
Same here! 2018 MacBook either gives me that message you stated, or I see “Mojave cannot be installed on this hardware” (paraphrasing).

I don't care for dark mode as it's incomplete in my view. I'll stay away from it until all apps including Safari adopt it system wide. You get blinded switching from dark mode to Safari or another app.

Safari dark mode was working great for me. A web browser should not change the colors of the page you visit, only the app itself. So yeah, most web pages have a white background. That’s not a safari issue. I was actually surprised at how extremely thorough the Mojave dark mode was. Activity monitor, finder, and other places that Windows 10 has yet to implement dark mode on, were all in Mojave. I’m extremely happy with it, and it has been my most wanted feature in MacOS for at least 5 years.

This update made scrolling on the marzipan apps a lot less jittery. Feels more stable overall as well.

PB is available. 2.86GB

Virtualbox was updated to 5.2.16 and works with this beta 4

Be careful when trying this... remember that the iMac Pro with the T2 chip requires another Mac in order to restore it should you need to. I've not read anything on our 2018 MacBook Pros requiring it as well, but I'm not willing to try just yet.

I always install betas to either a separate partition, or to a new volume on the same disk. Keeps the original MacOS untouched and you can always reboot out of beta-land.

What I think is he is saying "returning from dark mode to normal mode feels awful", not the other way round.

Update: OK. Someone else has it sorted out already.
Yes, you were correct! Thank you :) I was half jokingly saying that losing dark mode was "horrible", just meaning that I prefer dark mode.

Is Dashboard broken somewhat for everybody? Now it crashes when opening the third pane of the Calendar widget which shows the current days events, holidays, etc. Also, the widgets have a black extended background around the edges that is still present in this beta. Is Apple intentionally trying to make it buggier with each release until it dies off or what? I still like to use it for quick Weather, Calendar, Stock, and Sticky Note widget viewing. I know most of this can be viewed in the Notification Center as well, but I still prefer to use Dashboard most of the time.

Fair enough. I’ll have to try to boot with command + r and see what happens. Hopefully we don’t need another Mac to restore our MacBook Pro.

I can't see any of those issues here. Best beta so far. But, I can see the reason you have chosen for your avatars name... :)

It's a Safari issue to extent I believe Apple should extend it to all its own apps and encourage developers to incorporate it into their apps as well. I just prefer one or the other. Going from dark mode to a white background in Safari etc is like walking out of a dark theater into the sunlight. Not my cup of tea. If you like it as is that's great.

is ok no problem, I really love dark mode
there is a big difference between windows 10 and Mojave dark mode or dark menu
I know that Mojave still on beta but so far is even better than the full version of windows that been out for a few years

integrated apps on Mojave support dark menu
while most of w10 integrated apps do not
most developers will have to update their apps to support dark mode
but I guess that apple uses some kind of api for conversion for some apps

why do I say this because I run some apps that hasn't been updated yet and when I run them
they run on dark mode menu if I have it active and enable and the app developer didn't develop that app in dark mode
my guess is that the app is being converted to dark mode

sorry for the previous misunderstanding
I guess my brain was malfunctioning at that time
I was very sleepy and tired and read it wrong
also my English is not 100% but it wasn't the English
it was me lol
because I understood perfectly fine after I read it the 2nd time
I think I got distracted of confused some how
I promise next time to take my time and pay more attention
lol
anyway
regards
:):D

I would love to see the system switching to Darkmode along with Nightshift kicking in and vice versa

Hi guys,

Thought I would jump in and join the fun.

I have also installed Beta 4 and my built-in webcam does not show up at all in the system report.

Anyone else have this issue?

Matthew

Where in the report are you looking? Does it get activated when turning on Facetime or Photo Booth?
