Isn’t this product dead?
No, but threads about it are constantly full of useless messages of users, who do not own one, but want to comment it.
Get a Google Cardboard: Much lighter, less expensive, no heavy battery, absolutely future proof (just change the phone...)

This product is dead. That's why they are opening sales in other countries to get rid of the surplus. Lots of rich people in Taiwan that would like try out a new toy like the vision pro and then discard it.

A question to the owners.
How easy is it to use the AVP as external Display connected to a MacBook Pro (apple silicon) lid closed.

If I do this I have to:
- Open Amphetamine.app on the MacBook Pro
- Open Immersed.app on the MacBook Pro
- Open Immersed app on the Meta Quest 3
- Connect to the MacBook pro

Use the Meta Quest 3 as Display and Logitech mouse / Apple Keyboard connected to the Macbook Pro.
It is great using a Wifi 6E Net.

But is it better and easier with the AVP?
As the other poster said, press "connect" on the floating button over the Mac display, then the Mac display goes dark and the virtual display is visible in AVP. I use the MBP keyboard and trackpad to operate the MBP and view everything in AVP so no reason to close the dark display on the MBP but I believe you can do so and the MBP in AVP remains visible. Since I want to use a keyboard and trackpad while doing work "in" the MBP, I have no reason to close the MBP, but if you wanted to set it aside and use a BT keyboard and trackpad/Mouse, I believe you could (but for me, that would mean more stuff to cary with me so I just use the MBP resources)
Nice thing about this is when the MBP display moves to AVP and goes dark, nobody can look over your shoulders and see "mirrored content" on the MBP while you are oblivious to the person snooping over your shoulder! :)

They should have included a video pass-through for gaming consoles and PCs, allowing it to function as a giant gaming monitor in real-time. It’s surprising they didn’t add such a simple feature, especially to attract more users if their own software wasn’t enough. Apple succeeded with the iPod by relying on existing music content, focusing on the interface and experience. Similarly, this device could have replaced high-refresh-rate gaming monitors, which are limited in size, making it more valuable to users. Without a killer app or game, it needs to offer more practical use cases to justify its cost for anyone without disposable income which is the customer base that makes or breaks mass adoption. So I guess cornering the market of large gaming monitors may still not have been enough.

Mean something like this but 20x more heavier and expensive ?

Careful, that'd be an actual real-life use case, can't have that.

Not to mention, you wouldn't be locked into the amazing ecosystem of Apple TV Plus — no way for Cook to milk you for service revenue. The horror!

Wasn’t clickbait.
Tim also had a statement that Vision Pro is not for everyone - merely for early adopters.
Anyway - Just asking.
I don’t see it offers value at that price range, and it felt the initial release enthusiasm burned out and there were few apps devs were interested in making.

But if it’s still on then OK 😊
it's clickbait in that its sensationalism. the headline screams failure and like they're done with it which is anything but the case. Personally it's totally worth it to have a better than movie theater screen in my home. I Paid 2 grand for one oled tv and this thing is a whole lot more versatile and has essentially replaced the tv. plus I can use it outside

Without a killer app
There is killer app - virtual display. Granted, it would not completely replace proper big and expensive display, but then you cannot take that with you. And AVP is way better than any laptop display.

And it is amazing for watching stuff.

And visionOS is pretty nice too, even in its infancy, basics are covered, mostly.

Other devices don’t have the WiFi protocols for image transmission that Vision Pro needs, but they could have solved this by giving the battery pack a data port that supports video in. Would also solve transferring videos to Vision Pro, as AirDrop is slow and glitchy, and it requires the headset to stay on which means keeping it on your face until it completes.

Mac Virtual Display

Resolved Issues

  • Fixed: Playing videos in Firefox does not work while using Mac Virtual Display with Vision Pro speakers. (138642255)
  • Fixed: If you are not using the default Mac display resolution, the Mac Virtual Display window might get stuck when changing its aspect ratio. (139087505)

Siri

Known Issues

  • Siri does not work on the simulator. (139096339)
Workaround: Develop and test applications using Siri on a device or use a previous visionOS SDK.

SwiftUI

Resolved Issues

  • Fixed: Compiling in the Swift 6 language mode might cause an @Entry error due to “static property defaultValue is not concurrency-safe because non-‘Sendable’ type”. (133885814)
  • Fixed: Views won’t accept dropped directories if UTType.directory or UTType.fileURL are not in the list of accepted content types for drop. (138158126)

TabletopKit

New Features

  • Direct manipulation allows a user to pick up equipment up close and move it in a way that naturally follows their hands. (138592898)
  • Local handoff allows a user to hand off equipment from one hand to the other without releasing the equipment. (138854913)

Resolved Issues

  • Fixed: The existing API tabletopGame(_ game, parent, automaticUpdate, interaction) is erroneously annotated as @available(visionOS, introduced: 2.2), which causes an existing app that uses it to stop compiling, unless the deployment target is bumped to visionOS 2.2. (139018795)

Unity Applications

Known Issues

  • Some Unity applications might render incorrectly. The content might swim more than expected and appear stretched. (139384386)
Workaround: Rebuild with Unity release 1.2.3 or later.

That's great and much simpler - but can the AVP replace the Pro Display XDR to clean up desk and room ?
