Here's my take for what it's worth. I'd been having a lot of issues with high Kernel Task mem usage and swap file usage very unusual for 16G Ram in my experience on this iMac. I finally decided to look it up and 10.13.1 was suggested to clear those issues up, since none of the standard troubleshooting in 10.13 seemed to work for anyone experiencing the same issues. I'm pleased to say that 10.13.1 resolved the issue. One user suggested this was due to 10.13 mishandling video usage. I don't know if that's true, but the issues noted above seem to have gone away.

Did WindowServer also used a lot of memory? Maybe that was the issue and you ran out of memory and kernel_task began to swap. There's a big thread here in the subforums about that issue :).

If you were having trouble installing the new High Sierra beta, don't bother.

It deleted all my server settings as in passwords. Cannot send ANY MAIL!
Good job Timmy!

More bug reports I guess. Of course, I'll have to manually remember and put in all the Outgoing Server settings.

UGH! :(

I posted in bold because this same thing has been happening going back to Mavericks!

How does Apple keep doing the same mistakes for that many years? It's just unbelievable.

Installed Beta 4 on a Mid-2010 iMac and a late 2010 Macair. On the iMac it was 1.59 Gb in size and on the Macair 2.08Gb. Is the difference caused by a firmware update? Also, on the iMac I had to do the whole "download the Public Access Utility" process to get it but on the Macair it appeared in the updates section of the App Store with the Utility. Both are the same build number. Just curious. Anyone have any thoughts?

With the update before Beta 4, I had to go through the whole download the utility process but beta 4 came down through the app store like most of the previous ones EXCEPT beta 3. What Apple did during beta 3 I don't know but it really confused a lot of folks, me included.

Sorry to hear about your installation woes. In my case it's been a smooth and trouble free experience on both a 2011 MacBook Pro 17" (SSD) and a 2017 MacBook Pro 15". I had some wake from sleep issues on the 2011 MacBook Pro but they were resolved since the GM was released. Yesterday's 17B45a release is running very smoothly and error free on both laptops.

The performance of the second beta hasn't been great and I'd like to update. However, after reinstalling the profile twice beta 3 has yet to show up for me.

Also, there is no such thing as a full installer of a minor MacOS beta - only release versions and some major version betas get those.[/Q

Beta 3 & 4 have both shown up as updates in the App Store for me, definitely not a full install.

In my case Beta 4 definitely required reinstalling the profile and then doing a full install of macOS 10.13.1 Beta 4. However Beta 5 showed up as an update via the App Store as have all other Betas except for Beta 4.

Beta 5 has not even been released, so how do you have it?
Haha! My bad. With all these betas coming out on macOS and iOS I jumped the gun. You are correct. I should have said:

Not sure what to tell you then, I didn't ask anyone to agree with me, I'm just stating how it has gone for me and my system so far. I installed HS early on as a beta and since the initial full install that I did all updates have come from the App store.

Then count yourself lucky. All the rest of the folks that I have read posts from had to go through the re-registration procedure and it was a pain in the behind.

Having a problem where my computer comes to a halt when I mount my external which is formatted in HFS+ (encrypted). Anyone else having this problem? Gonna try a full non-beta reinstall.

It’s not either-or. It’s not like their emoji artists can fix bugs.

Wait you mean Apple doesn’t put the brakes on all development and say “hurry everyone lets all work in emoji”. Every time there is a mention of emoji someone on this forum seems to think this is the case.
