Is there ever going to be any significant rumor or rumors related to new/updated mac desktops? Seems like its been so long since I have seen anything significant, other than software related stuff. There is rumor after rumor about everything else Apple except for desktop macs. I feel like this segment of mac has just dropped off the face of earth.

Apple is a trinket company now.

Desktops are few and far between.

The Mac Pro is dead.

Isn't this video and the one for iOS ones that MR has posted before? I could have sworn these are repeats.
They reuse the demo videos for articles for betas when a new beta comes out. Nothing has changed so they don't need to make a new video. It's just informative. Not everyone comes here everyday and saw that video in the last beta's article.

...I assume. I don't work there.

Indeed it is. iOS is in, macOS is out. If they ever do update the Mac Pro, I'm sure it will be quickly forgotten by Apple and just to appease users.

If iOS could actually replace macOS, then fine, but that is not the case.

big deal, already have Flux, that seems better in that some times I'm in the mood to use it and sometimes not and just disable it till sunrise.

I thought that nightshift was just a gimmick when it came to iOS but after using it for awhile, I've figured out that it's one of those things that you really don't notice until it's gone. For some reason my brain unconsciously noticed when it wasn't on one night after resetting an iPad. Something just didn't "feal" right anymore. It took me a moment to figure out what was wrong but then I put nightshift back on and everything "felt" normal again. Seems weird but nightshift actually seems to induce a "cozy" feeling similar to a comfortable couch or bed at night. Seems to work the same with my Hue lights too. I'll feel uncomfortable when the colors are not set to a color that I've gotten accustomed to at a particular time of day. I've gotten used to having different settings for morning, night, cold, hot and even rainy or cloudy. Hopefully this isn't some sort of subliminal mind control technique. ヽ(゜~゜o)ノ

Apple today seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming macOS Sierra 10.12.4 update to developers, one week after seeding the third macOS Sierra 10.12.4 beta and over a month after releasing macOS Sierra 10.12.3.
Apple released also printer drivers for third party printers. This means we can expect the next macOS update in 14 days.

...Think I got new firmware on my 2012 MBP, it just restarted when installing.

Edit: Yup, both my 2012 MBP and Mac Mini got a firmware update.
This means probably security updates, including firmware updates, for older OS X versions. Thanks for the info! :)

I have Gunnar computer glasses that I also wear at work but glasses irritate my sinuses.
I tried flux and iris and didn't care for either because everything just turns too yellow. I hope Nightshift is better so I don't have to wear the glasses at home

Hey, I got the new MBP too. Can you give a list of bugs you've encountered? I haven't noticed any with Safari.
[doublepost=1488229798][/doublepost]

Top sites has a sporradic bug where it becomes non-responsive to selecting sites requiring quitting Safari to get response back. The show favorites page has a sporradic bug where the icons of the first two favorites become overlapped and the favourites stop responding to selecting also. Again requiring quitting safari and restarting. Those bugs have been there for well over a year. Happens on my new pro and on my 2013 air extremely regularly. Not to mention my new pro making a noise when I shake it from side to side from the display, and making random clicking noises that sound like a spark which seem to be coming from either the left or right side of the keyboard area

Care to share with us, as I'm using a new 15 inch and it's working very nicely for me.

see my post I just made in response to someone else. In addition to that I frequently find when I open the lid of my computer instead of waking from sleep it reboots as if I shut it down (which I didn't). My air doesn't do this only my pro

Yeah, as far as I'm concerned, anything that makes a muddy mess of colors is a bug, not a feature.

Anybody know if there's a hotkey to immediately disable it? I obviously won't be turning it on for my computers, but I have to touch other peoples' computers all the time, and looking at screens distorted by f.lux is awful, but at least you can quit it easily, and most people don't know it exists. This mess is going to end up on a lot more computers.

I experienced all of the same on my 13" 2016 before finally giving up and getting rid of it. . .Not to mention the external display(s) causing it to randomly crash. Oh, and the Touch Bar buttons that randomly decided they didn't want to show up.

Night Shift!? I suppose the same team that is working on Night Shift for iOS might as well develop the software for macOS at the same time. But as other readers have asked, what about all the Software issues with macOS Sierra and indeed Hardware issues with the new MacBook Pro and recent laptops? Keyboard, Batteries, anti-reflective Screen coating, etc...

Also, when will we hear about a macOS update to include APFS with the prospect of new 2nd. Gen. laptops coming on stream this year? I can't help thinking there are greater priorities than Night Shift.

It's extremely easy. Open the notifications on the right side, scroll to the top. Don't worry. People have to turn it on manually, so if they "don't know it exists", it shouldn't be on. ;)

My glasses have blue light filtering lenses. Superb.

So, what happens when you look at a screen? Do things seem more yellow to you with glasses on than without? Since you say Superb, reminds me of Zeiss Superb lenses. How does the blue light filtering glass work under normal conditions?

Simplest way to tell you what firmware is, bios on Windows computers is Firmware.
Go to "About My Mac", next click "System report", you'll see "Boot Rom version" there, that's your firmware.
Without Firmware your computer won't even start up.
It controls all the hardware and loads the OS, this is not the whole story but do some research please.

The question was not what is firmware in the Mac context. His question still stands at firmware for what? I think he wants to know if there is any information regarding what mandated the firmware update.

Do you want to notice some bugs? Don't ask for lists of bugs. You will know if you encounter some. A common symptom is anger towards the purchase, towards Apple, and an even fonder remembrance of Steve. :D

Would not know about a hotkey but it’s right there in Notification Centre, see screenshot.

There is research suggesting that reduction of blue light in the evening/at night leads to better sleep and in my personal anecdotal experience that is entirely true. As somebody who often works late, this is a fantastic feature when I do not need to do color-accurate work (I’m a designer and PM, so sometimes I need to, but often I don’t need to have accurate colours at night), I’m sooo happy this feature exists.

Have they put the time remaining back yet for laptops?

Always been in activity monitor, but it still only measures on the usage thats been done last couple of minutes so its only accurate if thats the thing you do until empty

I hate night shift on my phone, never mind the computer. imo, it seems like a solution in search of a problem.
It's a problem made for a problem, but they really took the idea from Flux. "The white on the screen is too harsh on one's eyes, so let's make all the whites brown so you have to strain your eyes reading black text on brown background or vice versa." Oh well, I guess people like it somehow.

I have to agree WindowServer has become a memory hog. KernelTask is also an issue.
WindowServer is more of a CPU hog for me. A steady, annoying 10-20% usage for no reason. If I sort my processes by CPU time, it's always at the top, above my Linux virtual machines!
[doublepost=1488278427][/doublepost]Can we have the battery time indicator back? If not, can they please not remove it from Activity Monitor? Such a basic feature, gone for no reason.

And desktops on UPS batteries, assuming they're attached via USB ;)
Seriously, this was a feature I found one day. It's cool.
