i was just installing the new update a few minutes ago. everything seemed well, until my screen went black and showed the apple logo. moments after it says "swipe up to upgrade". i swiped up, asked for my passcode, entered it, screen went white with apple logo, then turns black again, and the cycle repeats. any help please???

iPhone X

When do you think is a good time to jump into this beta? Last year I did it early in the first build and it was rough for many builds following. Is iOS 14 fairing better now at build 4 or should I just wait
iOS 14 has been very stable. The only thing I would caution you is that in my experience betas usually don’t play nice with banking apps and Apple Pay, so if you use your device for those things you may want to wait until it is out of beta (I don’t install betas on my primary iPhone for this reason).

So why no choice to go with public beta? Seems like staying with iOS 13 should be fine.
Ok, so had no problems with banking apps so far. I'll stay on the public beta until there is a problem.

Try DFU mode and then attempting the beta install again.

NO! I just went with beta4 on my iPhone XS and it is buggy as hell, I regret making the jump early but live in hope that b5 fixes things

I had planned to jump in now, but then occasionally there's some guy who complains about multiple app crashes a day (yes on beta 4)... I wonder if it's really that bad?? I can take some instability and as a dev myself knows what "beta" means but that borders on unusable and then I'd rather wait.

Most seem to tell it's pretty stable for a beta though so...

Banking apps for me in Germany are all working fine. I’m using N26, Comdirect and Kontist.

So far the beta is problem free apart from one keyboard crash and the annoying wrong Mail badge counter that’s been an issue since the iOS 13 betas.

Anyone have issues with the double tap shortcut on the back of the phone? Literally everything sets it off, picking up/putting down the phone, changing volume, changing phone grip.

I currently use it to launch spotlight to open/search for an app without exiting to the Home Screen, but there’s just too many accidental launches.

It is a known problem. Many have turned the feature off for now, because it is so easily triggered.

I had some minor issues with the first 2 Public Betas, and then with the 3rd one, everything was working great. After updating to this latest public beta though, I'm having lots of issues again including the messages & camera app, along w/lots of other minor navigation/interface issues

That doesn't seem to answer the original question: why no choice?
Because usually there are understandably problems. The biggest one for me is bank apps don't work (and random crashes).

So as much as I want to use the latest beta to get used to the changes, if something in the beta, for me, made my phone have more problems than it's worth, I'd have no choice but to go back to iOS 13 until iOS 14 GM is out.

Again, I expect bugs & issues especially since it's beta software.

I get part of it. It seemed that the original comment was in relation to not having a choice about going with an iOS 14 beta, which is basically what the question was about.

So many bugs on iOS 14. I'm not sure what users here do with their phones except for iMessage and browsing the web, but most apps crashed for me at least a few times a day. The keyboard dissipated at random occasions when I tried to type (or blocked what I typed), apps like Instagram, Whatsapp and Facebook crashed all the time. Waze as well randomly crashed, and AirPods since the last beta update randomly I couldn't hear people when I made calls. I had to go back to speaker mode then AirPods again to hear anything. I've downgraded and will never try beta iOS versions again.

Stellar on iPadOS. Bluetooth, Netflix, prime, et Al. Very stable. Don’t use Facebook apps.

I really hope the News widget get more powerful, especially in the many countries where they’ve never released the News app. In Germany the widget is full of Bild articles (one of the worst tabloids in Europe), yet you can’t even open them because they don’t work with content blockers, which Safari natively supports. Makes no sense.

This is the buggiest beta I’ve ever been on. Beta 3 was solid, for me there were only a few little things. This one has some serious issues. When I make a phone call with my AirPods in, I hear the ringing and then when the person answers the sound goes out and we can’t hear each other. It forces me to hold the phone to my head (I know - life is hard!) That is the biggest (and most easily reproducible) issue I’ve run into. But I’ve also had CarPlay freeze up, keyboard goes away randomly, like when trying to message a photo from the photos app, FaceTime has had me still on camera with the person but my screen shows home screen with no sign of being on the call (that one happened on my iPad)... and of course the crashing. Some apps not working, like the Instagram camera doesn’t record (I know that’s not Apple’s issue, and I don’t care much about that one anyway, but others might).
Even as I type this, the phone keyboard switches to not capitalize the first letter of a sentence sometimes and doesn’t recognize I wanted to go down (return key) two lines, not one. But anyway, it’s not the end of the world, this is just part of taking a public beta. Just figured I’d post because I didn’t see as many comments about the instability as I’d expected. And if it is relevant to anyone reading this, I’m public beta 4 on an iPhone 11 Pro. ✌️

Don't do it, tons of bugs on my iPhone XS, Siri calling fails, Airpods don't connect, camera randomly crashes of won't focus, lots of sluggishness, messages freezes. Overall makes phone unreliable and hard to use. I regret "having a go"
