If you have missing News widgets switch (in my case dark mode) to white. Start audio in news app and go to widget area and hopefully you will have your news widget back. Worked for me! Good luck!

The only app I've had an issue with that I use daily was Wizards Unite -- crashes at opening. All my financial apps work fine. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Appreciate your mentioning financial apps working - that was one of the big ones I didn’t want to have issues with given my constant use. Maybe I’ll give it a go on my Pro Max and my Watch 5. It’s only going to keep improving at this point (mostly....I hope).

Has the occasionally disappearing keyboard bug been fixed?

I am hoping so, but I have noticed there is a ‘full keyboard access’ accessibility shortcut which I’ve been using to get the keyboard to reappear! Enable that if you come across it again.

Thankful widgets working again on PadOS 14 beta 5 and well as the camera no longer “pulses” when my AirPods are connected. So far that’s a win in my book.
Thank you! My cameras have been unable to focus since the last beta. Disconnecting my Beats phones fixes it. What a weird bug.

Hmmm... ever since updating my phone to iOS 7 PB5, my AW series III with WatchOS 7PB goes in to a crash, reboot, remain usable for one minute and crash again continuously. Not good. Maybe I’m an outlier, but I’ve got 2.7GB free on the watch, and nothing crazy on the watch face. Just standard activity rings.

edit: maybe a few hours of hiccups. Might have corrected itself. Watch is no longer crashing.

Face ID is unlocking for me while wearing a mask in iOS 14 beta 5. I didn’t know that was a feature! I like it.

I really wish this wouldn't be a whole article for every single beta released on iOS, IpadOS, TVos and WatchOS for both public and developer beta's. Honestly seems more of a "filler" by Macrumors and distracts away from meaningful, engaging articles. Also sometimes I think Apple has gone ahead and released the next beta only to realize that its just the public beta releasing a day or two after developers. If ya'll are gonna keep these kinds of articles it would be nice to change up the graphics to distinguish between Public and Developer updates, otherwise it's just messy and kind of redundant.

Anyone else having issues with Face ID? If I swipe up to unlock before Face ID has completed the iPhone locks and Face ID is then disabled until the passcode is entered.
Have logged it as an issue so will see...

as soon as beta 5 installed my device is back to random restarts like it did on first beta. It is really so bad right now. Any idea/recommendations to at least reduce it to a fewer times will be very much appreciated!!

thanks

Rumor has it that iOS 14 will drop late October but that doesn't sound right. Usually these betas go to 6 maybe 7 so it looks like this is almost fully baked. Hoping for a mid September launch. Thoughts?

Huge amount of “other” storage on this version. 64GB iPhone X. Over 20GB. Also won’t restore previous iOS 14 backups via iCloud.

My friend’s XS on iOS 13 unlocks while wearing a particular face mask. She couldn’t get others to do so, and neither could I on iOS 13 nor PBs.

I wear a medical grade 3M mask. I’ve never been able to get my phone to unlock while wearing it. It would immediately let me input my passcode. iOS 14 beta 5 immediately unlocks my phone with Face ID. I haven’t tried it with a different style mask. I have a few others I can try. That would be interesting to know.

I've noticed that with this latest public beta on iPad OS, battery life really took a nose-dive on my 2020 iPad Pro. I went from 100% to 73% from just surfing Safari (hey, surprise Beach Boys) and other lite things in just an hour. MAJOR battery drain on that.

But, it's a beta and to be expected. I filed a feedback and usage report and moved on.

Trying to decide if I want to take the plunge with iPad OS PB...

I doubt they’ll release iOS 14 fully until the new phones have been announced. The code would probably spoil lots of things that they don’t want out until the keynote for the new iPhones.

Installed it on iPhone 8 Plus here

Weather and world clock widget fixed :)
Same here, but I needed to poke it a first time to get it to open the weather app for a first time, before it showed content.

Same here, it was the major irritation in the lreviois PB for me, I’m glad it’s out of the way. I have some illogic glirtches with the keyboard still, with empty space between it and the top keyboard functions: the app content behind it is peeking through.

Also sometimes when placing your cursor at a specific spot in a text, it can cause some glitches somehow.

E.g. the text field that you intend to start writing in just scrolls away...

Interesting reply by someone using a profile with their business name as their handle. That reflects poorly on your company. You treat customers like that ? Was "get over it" really necessary?
Sorry, but a beta is a beta. You overreact without a valid argument. Running beta software is like jumping in a cold river: you know there can be rocks, current, cold water and whatnot. You jump at your own initiative and have to take the consequences with your own confidence. Professional quote or not: beta is no joke, and only public released software is worthy a professionals assitance.

Some facts for me in this beta:

- there are dots that appear in the top indicating when an app is using the mic/camera. Green for camera, orange for microphone use. Filming video is oddly or luckily only showing the green dot. Sure is ‘interesting’ but it’s getting busy up there in the top...

- siri animation is gone here. While talking, there is no visual feedback, apart from ... the orange dot. When I stop talking, and siri is processing the command, there is an animation.
I guess this need fixing.

- Files has become apathetic, asit is constantly telling me ‘iCloud Drive is loading’. It is not, and it doesn’t after toggling the funtion in icloud settings. Bummer, since I use it a lot.

- is anybody agreeing with me that the search in the widgets view is redundant? I accidentally get search when pulling down too far. That is annoying, as well as the search bar that is constantly there, at the top of the widget screen.
it even gets idiotic when having pulled down accidentally, then unintentionally pressing some letters while actually trying to pull it down again to make it disappear. It doesn’t end there: the irritation is even worse, since you need to deliberately press the ‘x’ to delete the irrelevant query, and then you need to get out of your trap, by pressing cancel... or pulling up again if the damn keyboard is not in the way that is.

Would be way slicker without the functionality in the widget screen altogether, we know the function exists in the home screen...I really hope this will be omitted!

- the battery warning still makes your workflow freeze, like previous iOS :(

- the haptic feedback when e.g. holding an icon has gotten a tiny audible effect to it that is not happening when the silent swith is on. Unsure if that was previously, or if it is different. I namely kind of constantly have silent mode on...

- selecting text is still a pain, I cannot get used to it, and personally I believe the functionality has been destroyed previously and unfortunately that hasn’t improved in iOS14.
